Coreg for heart

Common Questions and Answers about Coreg for heart

coreg

Avatar n tn Dilated cardiomyopathy often is the result of an overworked heart. The medication (coreg and lisonpril) reduces the heart workload resulting in reverse remodeling of the heart and increased EF (ejection fraction of blood pumped with each heartbeat). Six years ago I had enlarged (remodeled) left ventricle and an EF 19-29% and hospitalized for heart failure...no symptoms until CHF...thought I was very healthy, and shocked to hear I had had a silent heart attack).
406412 tn?1217438384 I take coreg twice a day and I also take hyzaar for my bp...I was wanting to know if the coreg was mainly for my heart and if it plays a big roll in my bp?
Avatar n tn I had a minor heart attack in August 2008 and I had 5 stents put in. I was started on coreg 6.25 two tmes per day. The dr recently reduced me to 3.125 because of weight gain. I am still gaining weight. I decided to stop it altogether and did not tell my dr. My resting pulse is up as well as my pulse rate upon exertion. I just stopped the coreg. Will this regulate itself in a few days.
Avatar m tn My cardiologist gave me a number of 45. What does this mean? And he wants me to take Coreg. So is this heart failure or heart disease? I also have mvp and had been taking propranolol for 30 years.
Avatar f tn now that my heart has healed, should I continue to remain taking the Coreg that I have taken for 13 years? Would it be better to stop now? I do continue to have high blood pressure and take Diovan and a diuretic, Spironolactone, in addtion to the Coreg. Again, my main question is...Should I continue with Coreg?
Avatar m tn are your symtoms permanent, day and night with no break? The answer is important to me because I can be fit and normal for half the day and sick and ill the rest and no doc shows any interest except in tests and pains in the heart. Avatar m tn After the did the first stent they told us it would only be a month on Plavix but after the last episode they decided that he needed to be on it for a year. He is also taking 2 blood pressure pills, Coreg, and Zocor. So I guess it just depends on your case and your doctor.
214864 tn?1229715239 Hey Darling - you can have my Diltiazem.
Avatar n tn Try cutting back, and it is not unusual for the heartrate not to increase very high with exercise. I believe you asked about another beta blocker as a substitute for coreg. Coreg as a dual mechanism as it also has an ACE inhibitor effects that helps dilate vessels. It is highly recommended for heart patients. Take care.
Avatar m tn What I understand is lower the pulse rate better is the recovery of heart function. Are you able to maintain pulse rate below 70 bpm with present coreg dose and exercise regimen. I have no problems with ACE-I though. With 5mgx2 Ramipril my BP remains 110/70 most of the time.
Avatar n tn The medical decision was treat the enlarged left ventricle and occluded vessels with lisinopril and coreg. Currently, my heart is a normal size and EF is 59%, but I still have moderate to severe MVR...the doctors thought if and when the heart returned to normal size the MVR would improve, it didn't. I don't have any symptoms, and if I have shortage of breath, fatigue, chest pain, etc. there would be intervention on the MVR.
Avatar f tn Coreg (carvedilol) is a very effective beta blocker. All beta blockers can affect blood pressure and pulse rate, they work by controlling the adrenlin. They don't normally cause heart damage, however. Just the opposite, they improve heart efficiency. He might need a lower dose, I'm sure his doctor will weigh in on that issue. Don't under any circumstances stop taking it, one must taper off. I take the drug, and it has worked very well for my heart health.
Avatar n tn I was off Coreg for 48 hours, on the treadmill I could only get my heart rate up to 130 or so. Perhaps I'll divide the half dosage to twice a day to see how that works...thanks again for the post..John To: John I was taking Coreg CR (slow release) single dose of 25mg once a day. I went back to 12,5 mg twice a day,and that works for me. I take an ACE inhibitor twice a day with coreg just before a meal. That has been regimen for years...Why are you on such a high dosage?
907968 tn?1292622204 I imagine they're trained to know which medications work best for which heart problems. As for dosage, I'm not sure. If you look at a PDR the book mentions standard dosages for children, adults and geriatric folks. I know with the antibiotics I use at work we choose which antibiotic works best for which type of injury or specific bacteria. I always calculate dosage according to species (mammals have a different calculation compared to birds or reptiles) and weight.
Avatar f tn and most beta blockers slows and stabilizes the heart rate, but Coreg is not just a beta blocker, it also has some ACE inhibitor characteristics as well.. Doesn't the AICD control the heart rate and negate that aspect of Coreg?
Avatar f tn It would be silly to push over your max heart rate with cardiomyopathy. Why dont you strengthen your heart by simply walking a bit faster and for longer? Walking or swimming are great exercises, running isn't necessary at all.
Avatar m tn It really depends on what is causing the heart failure. Did you suffer a lot of heart damage when you had a heart attack?
Avatar n tn This caused me to become very fatigued and my doctor attributed it to the Coreg so he switched me to 10mg Norvasc every day (after weaning off the Coreg for 3 days). This was 2 weeks ago and I'm still feeling the same fatigue. How long does Coreg stay in your system after you stop taking it? I know that Lexapro can cause tiredness as well, but my doctor seemed to think otherwise.
Avatar f tn She has done pretty well except for the fact it caused conjestive heart failure. last februray her heart defibulator started firing alot because of racing heart. At the same time her platelets dropped dramatically to 1700,white cells are up and her stool turned cream colored. She has had a bone marrow biopsy which was negative for cancer. We still dont have any answers.
