Coreg for anxiety

Common Questions and Answers about Coreg for anxiety

coreg

Avatar n tn This caused me to become very fatigued and my doctor attributed it to the Coreg so he switched me to 10mg Norvasc every day (after weaning off the Coreg for 3 days). This was 2 weeks ago and I'm still feeling the same fatigue. How long does Coreg stay in your system after you stop taking it? I know that Lexapro can cause tiredness as well, but my doctor seemed to think otherwise.
Avatar f tn i have been on risperdal since spt 13 and reneron since sept 23 and ativan since aug 4 all for anxiety and deprression,In like a month and a half i have tried bystolic atenol, and verapamil and tiazac..and had sime kind of side eefect from all,Or else its all in my mind...my heart rate is down still and im so dizzy and feel like my heart is racing but its not,I know anxiety can do alot.I dont know if im puttinf stress on my heart by not taking the meds and its going up and down...
Avatar n tn My husband is 55 years old and was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy 5 years ago (may have been alcoholic cardiomyopathy?) -- he has been on coreg and lisinopril for 5 years with very few side effects -- his cardiomyopathy has resoved and his heart is "healthy" back to normal size and function. He decided to stop taking his coreg and lisinopril last week. He is weaning himself down. I think he is crazy for doing this -- especially without telling the doctor .
Avatar m tn On my next cardio visit I may have to ask for a higher Coreg dose but scared about the tiredness and decrease in HR effects. My experience with Coreg is that you have to increase it very gradually and always do so with meals. It also causes me to dream a lot which in turn brings on palps and elevated systolic BP. Did you ever notice this side effect?
1198633 tn?1341182388 I have recently stopped taking Coreg 6.25ng and started on Cozaar 50mg to manage my blood pressure which is working out really great according to measurements. I was weaned from Coreg by taking just my dosage at night and skipping the morning one for two weeks and then to stop. Since about a week after I cut down to once a day I started to notice a constant pounding heart.
Avatar m tn After the did the first stent they told us it would only be a month on Plavix but after the last episode they decided that he needed to be on it for a year. He is also taking 2 blood pressure pills, Coreg, and Zocor. So I guess it just depends on your case and your doctor.
Avatar m tn ed34, That is encouraging. Mostly, I think the concern was that it made that jump within seconds. My cardiologist thinks it only nerves as the nuclear revealed that my heart is "perfectly normal" in his words. Plus it really freaks me out. On the other hand, I decided to try the 10mg Coreg CR and it is not working. My blood pressure has gone from an average of 118/75 to an average of 130/80. Admittedly, that's still not bad, but it is kind of odd that it increased.
Avatar m tn BP measured at the emergency room or by yourself in settings of extreme anxiety are NOT representable for your normal BP.
Avatar n tn A new cardiologist did a nuclear stress test and a calcium score test and i wore an event monitor for 21 days.and it came out negative for any problems. I have also had a renal ultrasound, an abdominal ultrasound, cartoid artery ultrasound, x-ray of back and neck and all were fine. I just got back from a pulmonolgist since I thought maybe it was lung related because I smoke. He did a chest x-ray and I took a breath test.. again no problems. I am now at a loss.
Avatar m tn Beta blockers are great for the heart, and have some anti anxiety properties that are good for heart patients.
Avatar f tn Is the dizziness normal from the tiazac and im having a metal taste ion my mouth that i havent had before,,,i havent started tghe coreg yet i also take ativan for anxiety and risperdal and remearon for depression,,,I could use some advice,,Thanks
Avatar f tn It is 128 sometimes as high as 130-150 but can be 100 at times as well. It will go down under 100 too if I am lying down for a long long time. I have had it for a long time and don't know if it has in fact gone beyond 150. I was just diagnosed with high blood pressure at a reading of only 130/90 and that is when he said my heart rate can't take being that high over the long haul. I think my anxiety is a big factor too.
Avatar n tn I have moderate to severe MVR and do not hve the symptoms you describe. The medications I take is an ACE inhibitor (dilates vessels for less workload for the heart) and Coreg. Coreg (beta blocker) keeps my heart rate within acceptable parameters and also reduces anxiety while exercising. The problem could be your medication, thyroid problem, or/and other medical problems.
Avatar m tn are your symtoms permanent, day and night with no break? The answer is important to me because I can be fit and normal for half the day and sick and ill the rest and no doc shows any interest except in tests and pains in the heart. This discussion is related to <a href="/posts/Heart-Disease/Allergies-to-drugs-Betas--thyroid/show/2178823">Allergies to drugs. Betas, thyroid</a>.
Avatar m tn Alcohol actually intensifes your anxiety, and as you now know, helps nothing. Propanolol is for people like you who need a short acting calmer. But since this didn't work, you need to see a psychiatrist and also get into therapy. Therapy is good, it's helps you to identify where your anxiety is coming from, but in your case, mostly why? It also teaches you coping skills. He can recommend a better drug for you in the meantime so that you can make a living.
907968 tn?1292622204 I imagine they're trained to know which medications work best for which heart problems. As for dosage, I'm not sure. If you look at a PDR the book mentions standard dosages for children, adults and geriatric folks. I know with the antibiotics I use at work we choose which antibiotic works best for which type of injury or specific bacteria. I always calculate dosage according to species (mammals have a different calculation compared to birds or reptiles) and weight.
406412 tn?1217438384 I take coreg twice a day and I also take hyzaar for my bp...I was wanting to know if the coreg was mainly for my heart and if it plays a big roll in my bp?
Avatar m tn He has me dropping to 12.5 of the Coreg and 50mg of the Tenormin twice a day for 4 days and then 6.25 Coreg and 50 Tenormin twice a day for 4 days, and then only the Tenormin 50 to 75 twice a day depending on BP numbers. Any one have any knowledge or thoughts about this? BTW I trust my Cardiologist but am nervous anytime I have to change meds!
Avatar n tn I had a minor heart attack in August 2008 and I had 5 stents put in. I was started on coreg 6.25 two tmes per day. The dr recently reduced me to 3.125 because of weight gain. I am still gaining weight. I decided to stop it altogether and did not tell my dr. My resting pulse is up as well as my pulse rate upon exertion. I just stopped the coreg. Will this regulate itself in a few days.
Avatar n tn Try cutting back, and it is not unusual for the heartrate not to increase very high with exercise. I believe you asked about another beta blocker as a substitute for coreg. Coreg as a dual mechanism as it also has an ACE inhibitor effects that helps dilate vessels. It is highly recommended for heart patients. Take care.
Avatar f tn now that my heart has healed, should I continue to remain taking the Coreg that I have taken for 13 years? Would it be better to stop now? I do continue to have high blood pressure and take Diovan and a diuretic, Spironolactone, in addtion to the Coreg. Again, my main question is...Should I continue with Coreg?
Avatar n tn I am curious as to your opinion regarding the use of coreg for blood pressure control for a juvenile diabetic, with renal problems (37%) function. The coreg causes problems controlling the blood sugar in the patient, and it causes bouts of vomiting and loss of consciousness it also causes very low blood pressures, fatigue and shortness of breath.
Avatar f tn Chest pains are very common with anxiety. Trust me, I am the poster child. ;-) Thank the Lord I have pretty much gotten over it. One important thing to know is that cardiac-related chest pain is not sharp, such as you describe. It's almost certainly muscle tension or a tender muscle. My cardiologist prescribed a beta blocker for my high blood pressure, and said it would help my anxiety too, which it did. For what it's worth, I take Coreg 20mg 2x/day.
Avatar m tn My cousin is a jazz sax player, and takes tiny doses of Metoprolol to control anxiety before performances, and it works for him, but he sure sleeps well after taking the drug. I'd ask your doctor if you could try HCTZ, quit taking beta blockers, buy a blood pressure monitor, and take your BP twice a day, and track it. He/she may have a strong reason to continue taking the medication, but why not ask the question?
475570 tn?1280941363 I take coreg twice a day, but coreg cr is a slow release medication for once a day. The recommendation is 1 capsule each morning wih breakfast that will help lower blood pressure all day and all night.
