It is a combination of Coreg and Tropol XL, I believe. This gives all the benefits of Coreg and reduces the tiredness that people complain about. Our relatives in Europe use the medication and have energy to travel to US and all around the states. I am not sure what the name will be of the medication when it becomes available in the US.
Salmon, fish oil, and dark chocolate have been shown to raise HDL levels. Your level should be in the 50's if you can get it there.
I just posted something similar under an old question, so thought I would make it a separate expanded post. I've been on coreg (50mg) since I was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy in 2006 (age 54). I've seen doctors from UT Southwest to the Cleveland Clinic. My ejection fraction has been measured from mid 20s to mid 40s. The latest heart cath put it at 30%, the most recent echo put it at 36%.
I was previously on 12.5 mg of Coreg 2X a day for high blood pressure. I am also taking 10mg of Lexapro a day for anxiety. This caused me to become very fatigued and my doctor attributed it to the Coreg so he switched me to 10mg Norvasc every day (after weaning off the Coreg for 3 days). This was 2 weeks ago and I'm still feeling the same fatigue. How long does Coreg stay in your system after you stop taking it?
I am curious as to your opinion regarding the use of coreg for blood pressure control for a juvenile diabetic, with renal problems (37%) function. The coreg causes problems controlling the blood sugar in the patient, and it causes bouts of vomiting and loss of consciousness it also causes very low blood pressures, fatigue and shortness of breath.

My husband is 55 years old and was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy 5 years ago (may have been alcoholic cardiomyopathy?) -- he has been on coreg and lisinopril for 5 years with very few side effects -- his cardiomyopathy has resoved and his heart is "healthy" back to normal size and function. He decided to stop taking his coreg and lisinopril last week. He is weaning himself down. I think he is crazy for doing this -- especially without telling the doctor .
After being in the hospital for afib and having my heart rhythm restored, my cardiologist put me on coreg as well as coumadin. I have strange dreams and really have had a lack of energy. I expect to be slower at age 77, but not this

I have been diagnosed with an ejection fraction of less than 35 and a severe cardiac arrhythmia ( 32000 pvc's per 24 hrs ). My cardiologist put me on Coreg and gradually worked me up to a dosage of 25 mg BID. The arrhythmia has dropped to 37 but I feel absolutely horrible since being on the Coreg. I am constantly dizzy and fatigued. The slightest effort requires that I stop and rest. I feel like I have no strength nor any ambition to do anything. I have also gained weight.
I never had fatigue when I was on plavix for year after a DES implant. Although fatigue is a known side effect from plavix, it could also be due to other causes that could be serious if not treated.
To answer your question directly the general opinion of the medical community is 1 year on plavix and aspirin due to the small risk of clots developing with DES implants. You should see your doctor, and if fatgue has lasted awhile it doesn't make sense to continue waiting for relief.
I was switched from Atenolol to Coreg in the hopes that it would help with triglycerides, insulin issues and some fatigue. The tachycardia got WORSE! Coreg is a beta blocker but with alpha blocking activity. It's a non-selective a/b blocker which is known to have the side effect of tachycardia. I am going back to my doctor today to ask to get off of this stuff!!
More troubling is that I just began a cardiac rehab program, and did a treadmill workout at a speed/incline/duration (30 minutes) that I have been doing for years - so I know what my response should be. Normally, my heart rate would be around 130-135, and the coreg (presumably) kept it down around 115-120. I felt fine, and was encouraged - but afterwards, I felt extremely fatigued for the rest of the day, and had a great deal of soreness in my legs.
Two, Coreg is an excellent medication, and despite the dizziness and fatigue, you will probably begin feeling better soon. Three, please please visit a website called A Mother's Heart. My medication was an ACE inhiitor and coreg (coreg is a dual mechanism with ACE inhibitor and beta blocker properities and helps dilate vessels and stabilize heart rate).
Dilated cardiomyopathy is an enlargement of the left ventricle, and an enlarged LV can cause arrhythmia (irregular heat rate), and an enlarged LV decreases pumping strength (low EF).
Test revealed he was at a 45% capacity. Heart not pumping enough blood out. No blockages, but now he is at 35%. He just started COREG. What does this say for the future and his heart. He was told not to exercise at this point. They believe the blood pools in the heart then throws the clots out. Is he in heart failure.
I began feeling extremely fatigued and was having heart irregularities and palpatations. My GP inreased my coreg from 25 mg to 50 for two weeks. It made a remarkable difference in my heart functon. She also decreased my synthroid to 75 mcg. A week later my TSH was 0.666. I still am so weak and tired and foggy. I have to have long naps every day. My GP said it might take 6 weeks or so before everything levels out. After a month should I be feeling so bad.
My ef at that time was 15%. I also had significant mitral valve regurgitation. I was prescribed Coreg and lisinopril. My most recent echo (May, 2010) shows ef of 20%. MVR was mild to moderate at that time. My question....when is mitral valve repair/replacement considered to improve heart function?
I had a minor heart attack in August 2008 and I had 5 stents put in. I was started on coreg 6.25 two tmes per day. The dr recently reduced me to 3.125 because of weight gain. I am still gaining weight. I decided to stop it altogether and did not tell my dr. My resting pulse is up as well as my pulse rate upon exertion. I just stopped the coreg. Will this regulate itself in a few days.
He has me dropping to 12.5 of the Coreg and 50mg of the Tenormin twice a day for 4 days and then 6.25 Coreg and 50 Tenormin twice a day for 4 days, and then only the Tenormin 50 to 75 twice a day depending on BP numbers.
Any one have any knowledge or thoughts about this?
BTW I trust my Cardiologist but am nervous anytime I have to change meds!
