Common Questions and Answers about Coreg and kidney function

coreg

Avatar n tn She has been in acute CHF this week and we increased her lasix slightly for 2 days, trying to get the fluid off, but still protect the kidney function. She did improve very much and is feeling better. However, her b/p is like 80/50 at times. She is on coreg 6.25 bid and lasix 20 mg 1 po one day and 40 mg po the next. We were thinking of decreasing the coreg to daily. Would this be the right thing to do? The dr wants us to bring her in to hospital , but we just want to keep her comfortable.
Avatar n tn back to normal size and function. He decided to stop taking his coreg and lisinopril last week. He is weaning himself down. I think he is crazy for doing this -- especially without telling the doctor . Is his heart really cured or are the meds keeping him healthy? and what will happen if he stops them altogether?
Avatar n tn My husband is 55 years old and was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy 5 years ago (may have been alcoholic cardiomyopathy, he had stopped drinking for about a year after his diagnosis, but continued again until about 8 months ago -- he is in AA now and sober?) -- he has been on coreg and lisinopril for 5 years with very few side effects -- his cardiomyopathy has resoved and his heart is "healthy" back to normal size and function.
Avatar n tn Some doctors prescribe digoxin for irregular heartbeat, but monitor heart rate and kidney function closely. I hope the digoxin perspective helps you make the right decision. Take care. Cardiovascular side effects have been reported the most frequently.
Avatar n tn I am curious as to your opinion regarding the use of coreg for blood pressure control for a juvenile diabetic, with renal problems (37%) function. The coreg causes problems controlling the blood sugar in the patient, and it causes bouts of vomiting and loss of consciousness it also causes very low blood pressures, fatigue and shortness of breath.
Avatar n tn my bun is 63 and my creatine is 8.02 and im 60 yrs. old.
Avatar f tn Other than that episode there has never been another attack. He is on prinivil and coreg 25mg 2x daily. Since he was at work when this happend WC has been covering it, saw the Dr. on Monday and he told my husband, they will do an echo in Jan and if there has been no improvment, he will need to start seeing Dr. at Tampa General Hosp. to start the process for a heart transplant. Needless to say we have closed the WC file and have an apt on the 17th with a cardiol. I use to work for.
Avatar m tn What I understand is lower the pulse rate better is the recovery of heart function. Are you able to maintain pulse rate below 70 bpm with present coreg dose and exercise regimen. I have no problems with ACE-I though. With 5mgx2 Ramipril my BP remains 110/70 most of the time.
Avatar f tn I have found my blood pressure is high for a period of time (weeks) for no apparent reason. Then it goes the other way down below normal. There is no identifiable cause that I know about. I take Lisinopril (ACE inhibitor) twice a day as well as Coreg (beta blocker). You indicate your mother is taking medication once a day? There is a doctor that gives advice wseekly on TV, and he stated he has seen better results when the medication is taken at night before boing to bed.
4031436 tn?1349148172 I have coronary artery disease, I have been gaining so much weight, I eat very little but i am retaining a lot of fluid in my hands and my feet, I look like a balloon, I am so uncomfortable, I take coreg twice a day and furosemide once a day. I also have stage 3 kidney disease, I need some really good advice on why I am gaining so much. I am hurting constantly my legs, feet and pretty much every where, i am pretty sure it is from the weight. Please help and give me some answers and advice. soon.
Avatar n tn I went back to 12,5 mg twice a day,and that works for me. I take an ACE inhibitor twice a day with coreg just before a meal. That has been regimen for years...Why are you on such a high dosage? Do you function OK the next day when you take the dose at night?. Is your heart rate normal...less than 100 at rest? The doctor probably wants you take a dosage during the day when you are more active to help manage heart rate.
Avatar m tn I will come off effient eventually and stay on a low dose aspirin. No problem. I would like to minimize the coreg and statin. The diet I am on is helpful for Nitric oxide and for endothelial health as well as providing some level natural ACE inhibition, and platelet aggregation inhibition, and is high in natural anti-oxidants. So, what will staying on 6.25 mg coreg and 10 mg pravastatin do for me in the long run?
Avatar n tn , dehydration, and kidney function, low urine output, UTI. They replaced fluids and removed a lot of the b.p. lowering meds, including isosorbide, due to the concern of the low b.p. When released, she had a lot of swelling in the ankles and difficult breathing. Although most of the swelling has gone down, she still has trouble breathing, just by doing small tasks, even as simple as getting up to get a drink. She takes 20mg of lasix and continues to have little urine output.
Avatar n tn m diabetic, and am tested frequently. I have stage 4 heart failure(CHF), stage 5 kidney failure, and am now on dialysis. Your brother might benefit from dialysis to help clear the fluid from his body. The bottom line is, he needs to follow his diet and take the medication he needs religously. Your brother needs to be on a strict diet, including no sodium. He also needs to be anal about sticking to his diabetic diet as per his physician.
Avatar f tn All labs are normal and heart cath showed all pressures to be normal and no blockages. I have been placed on Aldactone, Digoxin, Coreg. Lasix and Coumadin. I take all of them daily expect for the Lasix. If heart hasn't strenghtened in 6-9 months will be looking at being placed on transplant list. Dr. wants to place me on Lisinopril also, but blood pressure drops with all the meds, to a level that I can't function.
1326572 tn?1275500911 My liver and blood count look great but my doc said my kidney function is slightly off. The creatinine is high at 1.09 and the GFR is low at 54. I was occasionally taking ibuprofen but have stopped completely now. I'm also on mtx, folic acid, norco for pain and also xanax. The doc said she wasn't too worried but she wants to watch it. I'm wondering if anyone else has had the same sort of thing.
Avatar m tn I was at a 25% ejection fraction put on 3.125 Coreg 2x a day ( lowest dosage ) and my heart went back to 60% within 6 months. I was also on Lasix 40 mg. Some other things I have done a ton of research and I have found that there are a few vitamins that have shown great success. CO Q10, Vitamin D3 and Vitamin C there are a few others in the heart failure research that are suppose to work well for it too.
Avatar n tn I am taking 2x12.5 mg coreg (carvidilol) for last three years and was able to tolerate it. Now, after three years, for last one month, I am having low bp. Down to 95/65 from normal of 110/70. This is creating problems for me. I feel tired, stomach upset and dizziness, necessity to clear my throat constantly. Over last 3 yesrs I have gradually reduced my ramipril (ACE-I) dosage from 2x6.25 to 2x1.25. So I am already low on ramipril. I cannot go down further on ACE-I. My EF is 30-35%.

Avatar n tn You can progress very rapidly to NO kidney function and be on dialysis and having to wait for a kidney transplant. And we all know how that one goes--there is a shortage of transplantable kidneys and they go to the people who have been on the list the longest. So get to a kidney doctor now!
