Coreg and heart rate

Common Questions and Answers about Coreg and heart rate

coreg

Avatar n tn I have CHF and EF of 25%, currently on 80 mg of Coreg and 30 mg lisinopril along with lasixs. I asked my doctor the same question. I was informed that if I stopped the Coreg my heart would eventually return to the same EF of 25%. Not a wise thing to stop the medication. You are at risk for Sudden Death Syndrome. If your heart were to get into an irregular rythm you could die. Please advise him to talk to his doctor.
Avatar m tn My BP with no meds was always 110/78 now with the 5mg of Lisinopril it is 82/63 ( started with the ACE- 5 days ago) with a rate rate of 98. My heart rate has been the same since my hospitalization. I need to go up on the ACE to between 10mg and 20mg . I am not sure if I will tolerated the medication. I am afraid that my BP will continue to decrease. I am concerned but both cardiologists agree that I need to be on an ace inhibitor.
406412 tn?1217438384 .Correg is a beta blocker and by blocking the receptors it reduces the heart's rate and FORCE of contraction and thereby reduces the work of the heart. Coreg also blocks adrenergic receptors (QACE inhibitor) on arteries and causes the arteries to relax and the blood pressure to fall. The drop in blood pressure further reduces the work of the heart since it is easier to pump blood against a lower pressure.
Avatar n tn I take coreg with lisinopril to lower heart rate and lower blood pressure. Coreg can lower the HR, and as you know, I very slow heart rate can cause clots, and with MVR an individual is more vulnerable. My docotor wants my BP as low as possible without side effects such as passing out!. And I believe the lowest possible BP is generally the goal as you stated. But coreg also effects the heart rate, so that enters the equation for optimal dosage.
Avatar m tn What I understand is lower the pulse rate better is the recovery of heart function. Are you able to maintain pulse rate below 70 bpm with present coreg dose and exercise regimen. I have no problems with ACE-I though. With 5mgx2 Ramipril my BP remains 110/70 most of the time.
Avatar n tn I could see that it was lowering my heart rate, so of course the metabolism is lowered, and weight could accumulate. I raised my exercise level and was very careful with my diet, and the weight came off. I agree with Kenkeith, you may have some heart failure issues that mean you are gaining weight because of fluid accumulation. I think you are making a big mistake quitting Coreg and not telling your doctor.
Avatar m tn now i take half two hours apart and still my heart rate goes high when i am up,but bp goes low and i go very low at night as soon as i put my feet up. i fluctuate all day.
Avatar f tn Many of us take a generic named Metoprolol to slow our heart rate...in my case my HR is always high and I do not have an ICD/Pacemaker.
Avatar m tn Just so you know, on the maximal amount of Coreg and Lisinopril that your heart rate and blood pressure can handle, the heart muscle can get stronger and we can see the EF improve!!! I think you may have 15 years left to your heart but you need to be very careful and take all of your medications (never stop plavix again with all of the stents you have) as prescribed and continue exercising at least 30 min 3-4x per week.
Avatar n tn is my heart rate to lowdue to coreg should i be concerned had 1 heart attack at 43 now 50 quit smoking 7 years ago weight235 heith 5 9 male 3 stents diagnose lower ventricular dys pcp sugests cutting coreg in half no chest pain plavix 1asprin a day alpuronol This discussion is related to <a href='/posts/show/877455'>Re: Low pulse rate</a>.
721346 tn?1231003778 Years ago my EF was 29 - 13%, an enlarged (dilated) left ventricle, ischemia, etc. and medication reversed remodeling of the LV, reduced bp, slowed heart rate, etc. and today my EF is 59%.
Avatar n tn I was off Coreg for 48 hours, on the treadmill I could only get my heart rate up to 130 or so. Perhaps I'll divide the half dosage to twice a day to see how that works...thanks again for the post..John To: John I was taking Coreg CR (slow release) single dose of 25mg once a day. I went back to 12,5 mg twice a day,and that works for me. I take an ACE inhibitor twice a day with coreg just before a meal. That has been regimen for years...Why are you on such a high dosage?
Avatar m tn I'm a 31 year old male with high blood pressure, anxiety, and a few recorded PVCs. I recently had a stress test with some ST depressions, which the cardiologists suspected to be a false positive. Nonetheless, to be on the safe side I was given a nuclear stress test - everything turned out just fine, my cardiologist said my heart is perfectly normal. The only problem was the high heart rate - when I went to get on the treadmill my heart rate jumped from 90 bpm to 145 bpm.
475570 tn?1280941363 I take Coreg twice a day, rather than Coreg CR one a day with the extended release. My blood pressure and heart rate is very good.
Avatar f tn Coreg (carvedilol) is a very effective beta blocker. All beta blockers can affect blood pressure and pulse rate, they work by controlling the adrenlin. They don't normally cause heart damage, however. Just the opposite, they improve heart efficiency. He might need a lower dose, I'm sure his doctor will weigh in on that issue. Don't under any circumstances stop taking it, one must taper off. I take the drug, and it has worked very well for my heart health.
Avatar n tn Coreg is medication that helps lower the heart rate and bp. The stress test will evaluate one's physical condition a peak heart rate unmedicated, and how quickly the heart rae returns to normal within 3 minutes or so. Other phases of the test considered as well.
Avatar n tn Are you on medication as jrbon asks? I am on a beta blocker (coreg) and I am not able to raise my heart rate above 125 with an aerobic exercise. What is your resting heart rate? Is it normal, low? It is possible you have low thyroid output or sinus bradycardia.
Avatar f tn I appreciate any and all who can help me. Currently taking calcium channel blocker-diltiazem for tachycardia and high blood pressure, HBP not too high, but heart rate is. Does anyone know anything about carvedilol? How safe is it, what are the side effects? Has anyone heard of it being prescribed for tachycardia? HIgh blood pressure?
Avatar m tn m exercising or training do I have any pain. My main symptoms are swelling in ankles, and a resting heart rate of 90. I've had two stress test, on stress echo, and one cardiolite stress. Both were normal and showed no blockage. My ejection Fracture was 38-40% I currently am on Coreg 3mg twice daily. and 2mg of lisinopril. I only take a few supplements, mostly, a multi-vitamin and joint supplement, Mirracle greens, fish oil, CLA and Protien shakes after workouts.
Avatar f tn The coreg with lisinopril does dilate the vessels and maintains heart rate stability, and if there is a side effect of lightheadedness, etc. the doctor would adjust or find the medication that is right for you. Your weak heart as indicated by lower than normal EF (amount of blood pumped with each heartbeat). If you don't take medication, your heart may not recover and will eventually begin to fail and have the inability to pump enough oxygenated blood to meet the demand.
Avatar m tn I know your worry, I was very athletic until heart problems occurred. However, Coreg really remodels the heart, have patience, and simply accept the fact that beta blockers changes exercise regimes.
Avatar n tn Is the change in the heart rate and blood pressure a sign of worsening heart disease? Does it indicate any time frame we are dealing with? He also has cardiac cachexia and has lost 50lbs in 8 months. He now weighs about 110 lbs, depending on fluid levels. And he has COPD too. Also he has had 6 blood transfusions in the past 5 months due to his red blood cell count which is currently around 9 but drops pretty quickly to 7. Thanks for any information or advice.
Avatar f tn It would be silly to push over your max heart rate with cardiomyopathy. Why dont you strengthen your heart by simply walking a bit faster and for longer? Walking or swimming are great exercises, running isn't necessary at all.
Avatar m tn That’s your “beta blocked” target heart rate and is equivalent to what your target heart rate would be without the beta blocker. I have been following that protocol for more than 7 years without any ill effects.
Avatar m tn I was at a 25% ejection fraction put on 3.125 Coreg 2x a day ( lowest dosage ) and my heart went back to 60% within 6 months. I was also on Lasix 40 mg. Some other things I have done a ton of research and I have found that there are a few vitamins that have shown great success. CO Q10, Vitamin D3 and Vitamin C there are a few others in the heart failure research that are suppose to work well for it too.
Avatar f tn No permanent damage from coreg. Exactly as you mentioned, it can lower heart rate and blood pressure but it is otherwise a very safe drug. If you have severe asthma, you might need to be careful because it could aggravate wheezing but again, this would entirely resolve upon stopping the medication. Good luck. Dr.
Avatar f tn I also take Coreg for heart rate moderation, without having HBP. I also have a ICD, which was just reacently replaced. (battery died of old age). Tip. When they tested the ICD last week there was insufficant margin in the threshold . [it took more than 25 J to convert me, when the divice can only put out 35 J.] As a result I was kept in CCU and started on Betapace, with a reduction in Coreg. Betapace reduced the threshold current, whil Coreg can increase it.
