Coreg and ejection fraction

Common Questions and Answers about Coreg and ejection fraction

coreg

Avatar m tn Cardiologist discontinued toporol and placed me on coreg 3.125 mg twice daily. Since I felt great I thought reading on ejection fraction had to be wrong, went for second opinion at Mayo Clinic, did cardiac mri, showed major damage to heart muscle on left and bottom of heart that was through entire depth of muscle, right and top of heart seemed to be unaffected.Estimated ejection fraction was 25. Now am scheduled for ICD implant, and aggressive coreg/lisinopril combo with previous meds.
Avatar m tn I recently had a heart that left me with a 40% ejection fraction. I am 45 and concerned. Will that ever improve? Dr. says maybe but cant get a definite answer. I feel out of breath just walking up the stairs. I am 5' 11" and about 185lbs. I was in ok shape before this, have 3 little kids so I am always running around. Just need some answers...
Avatar m tn 25 once aday 5 months ago ihad echo done and stress test stress test ok echo came back 40 ef cardioligest recomeded muga ins said 4months from echo i could have muga muga came back 31 doc said i need icd i asked what about coreg doc said didnt think would help i said how about another echo and i will increase coreg back to25mg 2xaday i feal fine idid increase coreg do ya think it will rase ef
Avatar n tn I had an ejection fraction that over the years has decreased to 20% and in the last six months it quickly returned to 60% indicated by measurements from both an echo and MUGA testing. The symptoms of CHF have not changed, so the blood flow per beat has not increased. Why has the EF increased so greatly and what would it indicate?
406412 tn?1217438384 I HAVE READ - Coreg lowers blood pressure and increases the output of the heart - DOES THIS MEAD THAT IT INCREASES THE EJECTION FRACTION OF THE HEART? AND IF THIS IS TRUE - IF A PERSON WAS TO STOP TAKING COREG WOULD THEIR EF RATE DECREASE ? ? ?
579123 tn?1217791074 We spoke with the Drs office today, and they have taken him OFF his COZAAR and COREG XR (coreg for only 2 days)....but with his ejection fraction of 15 is coming off the Coreg not going to hurt more then it helps? Anyone,,have any replys?
Avatar f tn What should I expect medically from my cardiologist? I have not seen him as an outpatient yet and the plan now is to try Coreg. What is causing the low EF? What is the prognosis? I am a 40 year old female, non-smoker, diet controlled diabetic, borderline cholesterol and approximately 60lbs overweight.
Avatar f tn If your heart is getting worse, you will feel more tired, out of breath and unable to do things that you used to do before. Coreg and Bumex are the best medications. The Bumex really helps get the water off. Be careful that you do not dehydrate yourself. Are you weighing yourself daily and recording your weight? If your weight changes every day, you need to notify your doctor (your doctor may need to adjust your Bumex dosage).
4237975 tn?1351595953 Treatment for low ejection fraction is focused on reducing symptoms and preventing the progress of the disease involved from worsening. Ejection fraction can be improved by lifestyle changes, medications and procedures, such as the insertion of an implantable defibrillator (ICD) if indicated.
Avatar f tn Yesterday I had a MUGA test done and my ejection fraction has increased to 46%. Does this mean that my enlarged heart could be reducing in size or just that the ICD and medication is working? I had a lot of stress before my diagnosis and have not worked since. Is it possible that if I go back to the stressful environment that my heart might get worse again or am I actually in the process of being cured?
Avatar n tn Your prognosis depends on your heart function. Usually, patient with a normal or slightly depressed ejection fraction, down to around 40 or so, have a relatively good prognosis and tend to do very well for many many years. Patients with ejection fraction below 35% are at increased risk of sudden cardiac death. This is why ICD's are so powerful in prolonging survival is such patients.
Avatar m tn Would a procedure such as E-valve (clipping of the mitral valve through catheter) be of any benefit in my situation (moderate to severe mitral regurgitation and low EF)? Would fixing the mitral valve improve ejection fraction? Thank you and sorry for the many questions.
Avatar n tn I just posted something similar under an old question, so thought I would make it a separate expanded post. I've been on coreg (50mg) since I was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy in 2006 (age 54). I've seen doctors from UT Southwest to the Cleveland Clinic. My ejection fraction has been measured from mid 20s to mid 40s. The latest heart cath put it at 30%, the most recent echo put it at 36%.
Avatar m tn Besides medication can you improve your Ejection Fraction? I watch my diet, exercise daily and my EJ has remained about the same for the past 2 years. I have had stents and I also have a ICD implant. My medications are coreg, zocor, plavix and a blood pressure med. In 2005 my EJ was 20 and for the past 2 years it has been in the low 40's. I realize everyone is different but is there any chance I should be doing something else to inc my EJ.
Avatar n tn I have been diagnosed with an ejection fraction of less than 35 and a severe cardiac arrhythmia ( 32000 pvc's per 24 hrs ). My cardiologist put me on Coreg and gradually worked me up to a dosage of 25 mg BID. The arrhythmia has dropped to 37 but I feel absolutely horrible since being on the Coreg. I am constantly dizzy and fatigued. The slightest effort requires that I stop and rest. I feel like I have no strength nor any ambition to do anything. I have also gained weight.
391561 tn?1227047215 Coreg 25 x2, and accupril (ace inhibitor). Latest echo shows no improvement of ejection fraction. Still 24 % after 8 months on meds. Anyone have any opinion as to chances of any improvement from meds at this point? LV has reduced moderately from 6.94. I believe my heart suffered damage from serious auto accident (BFT). I was hoping for signs of an improvement.
Avatar m tn Given your activity level, and being your age, I'd ignore the MUGA scan and just keep doing the good drugs, exercise, and enjoy your lifestyle. A tip of my hat to you!
Avatar n tn Coreg helps regulate a normal heartbeat and lower blood pressure. A reduction to 3.125 twice a day is lowest therapeutic value, and the medication should not be discontinued without doctor's advice. If you had a minor heart attack, you may need medication. I don't know of any weight gain associated with coreg, the reduction of coreg may be for other reasons other than weight gain.
Avatar m tn I was at a 25% ejection fraction put on 3.125 Coreg 2x a day ( lowest dosage ) and my heart went back to 60% within 6 months. I was also on Lasix 40 mg. Some other things I have done a ton of research and I have found that there are a few vitamins that have shown great success. CO Q10, Vitamin D3 and Vitamin C there are a few others in the heart failure research that are suppose to work well for it too.
Avatar n tn I am not familiar with specific problems with a heart attack, however, I have seen my husband's ejection fraction decline over more than a decade due to dilated cardiomyopathy. Of course life style changes are important, but that I am sure you can figure out yourself. There are many drugs that can stabilize (possibly even improve) a person's ejection fraction. The two most important kinds of drugs are ACE inhibitors and beta blockers.
Avatar m tn said ejection fraction was 25 and half my heart was scar tissue. Further he said my meds were BS and placed me on coreg, lisinopril, continued lipitor, plavix, zetia, asprin, stair stepping lisinopril and coreg up to max doses each week, going higher after blood work to check potassium and creatinine levels. New cardiologist wants me to workout and said there is no enlargement of heart and that we need to focus on making heart stronger with excersice and med therapy.
3097094 tn?1341088280 A few years ago I was diagnosed with 15% ejection fraction. The doctor prescribed Coreg, which I've taken everyday since, and my EF is now 40%. Of course it has a lot to do with lifestyle changes, such as losing any excess weight, if she smokes, quit, if she drinks alcohol, quit, etc. Excercise as much as tolerable, which means until she can no longer talk without feeling short of breath, then she needs to quit what she is doing, rest until she feels fully rested, and then try again.
Avatar n tn To answer your question about safety of exercise with your decreased ejection fraction, I would like to know the cause of decreased ejection fraction. If you are having chest pain or pressure with exertion then I would say you need an evaluation for this. If not, then you should limit yourself to symptoms such as the ones mentioned above.
304450 tn?1192686333 I was wondering if anyone knew of and med that are good for increasing Ejection Fraction. I have been on Coreg for 4 years and my EF had decreased some. Please help if you know. My doctor has talked about adding low dose of Diovan. but that concerns me because my bp sometimes runs low with the coreg.
Avatar f tn Hi. My dad is 55 he went in hospital for heart virus that left him with chf his ejection fraction is 10. He was told they want to try medicine of that doesn't work then a difibulator or heart transplant. We're freaking out its not that easy to get a heart there is a very long list. But anyways I'm so worried I hear such good things about coreg. He takes 6.25 2 times a day.
Avatar f tn Yes. I have what my doctor describes as a focal cardiomyopathy. There is a part of my left ventricle ( a focal wall abnormality) that doesn't pump properly or at all. He says my condition is mild, but it does cause the VT. My ejection fraction is 45-50%, which I also understand is borderline low/normal. Yes, I do have an ICD due to the fact that during my EP study, doc was able to induce a sustained VT. Otherwise, my arteries and heart muscle in general are in good shape.
