Copaxone during pregnancy

Common Questions and Answers about Copaxone during pregnancy

copaxone

Avatar f tn I would be asking your OB/Gynecologist not your neuro on this one as the OB would be more likely to know the effects during pregnancy. Everything I have read suggests stopping Copaxone at least 3 sometimes up to 6 months before trying to get pregnant. I would definetly ask your OB as well to see what they think.
Avatar f tn My Neurologist suggested I look in to taking Copaxone during the pregnancy to help cut down on the chance of relapse while trying to get pregnant and right after giving birth. Of course all the official documentation says don't take it, There is nothing but animal studies and human experience that suggests no negative effects for mom or baby. I am also on Oxybutonin for bladder control another Class B Drug. I was just wondering if any one had taken any thing while being pregnant.

5538989 tn?1514398453 I found the forum a couple of months ago when searching if Copaxone increases blood sugars. The thread I found was from 2008. My sugars have been so under control and no AIC's over 5.4. I was off meds for a month after my the delivery of my daughter and was still so under control that my PCP decided not to refill my Rx. After 3 months of Copaxone my morning fasting sugar is still high anywhere from 120-150.
Avatar f tn I took Copaxone for three years. During that time, I would use a cold compress before the injection. Often I would leave it on until the skin was completely numb, which might not have been the best idea. I didn't massage the skin after the injection or do any of the other things that they suggested, and ended up with lipoatrophy in all my injection areas. During those three years, I experienced several IPIRs - immediate post-injection reactions.
Avatar m tn Hello, I am sorry that I am saying this, I was pre-diagnosed with ms that was recently confirmed not ms. I am sorry that I had the news that most of you reading this will not hear. However I had accepted the diagnosis and was prepared,to move forward with my newly found life. And as a result almost a year of injection copaxone treatment ms that I don't know what to do with. I hate to throw it away but am not sure if I have another choice. Does anyone know of any other options?
Avatar f tn The price on copaxone was climbing during the time I was on it but I am still shocked at this new sticker price. When I quit copaxone it was up to something like $4,500 which of course my insurance didn't pay. It was $2,800 when I started copaxone in 2008. Shame on TEVA for taking this kind of profit on a drug they have long since recouped their researches expenses on through world=wide sales. I hope your insurance company works through this quickly.
Avatar f tn Trying to get information, from fellow mommies, who have been on copaxone and if you breast fed and went on copaxone right after delivery...did you have any negative side effects. I have my opinions and done my reseearch, talked to all types of doctors, lactation, I don't need persuaded, just looking for personal experiences.
338416 tn?1420045702 I went straight from Copaxone to Betaseron. During the first week of titrating up, I had the blood clot. Could the clot and the positive anticoagulant test have been caused by the switch? My other theory is a little more complicated (and probably more likely.) I have a rapid heartrate sometimes when I'm very tired/fatigued. I was exhausted that weekend, and slept on the couch for much of that day (with my heart hammering) before the clot.
20922415 tn?1661860103 During the reproductive years, the pituitary gland in the brain generates hormones (follicle-stimulating hormone [FSH] and luteinizing hormone [LH]) that cause a new egg to mature and be released from its ovarian follicle each month. As the follicle develops, it produces the sex hormones estrogen and progesterone, which thicken the lining of the uterus called the endometrium.
1168718 tn?1464983535 Hi guys, I have yet another question LOL Has anyone experienced severe sweating while taking Copaxone ? As most of you know, I have been on it now for about 10 days, and the sweating is getting quite bothersome. Today, went out for breakfast with a good friend, and when I stood up from the chair ( yes I was there for about 2 hours LOL) , but, it felt like I have peed myself. My jeans stuck to me, and my undies too, I even ended up doing the CLEAVAGE wipe during our breakfast.....
1337734 tn?1336234591 I was on Copaxone for 4 years and it was not effective . During that time I had many major flare ups and suffered per permanent mobility damage. 2 years ago I switched to Gilenya plus a steroid infusion routine and I have been doing great! No flare ups at all. I have felt well the entire time I was on Gilenya. Unfortunately my latest blood test just came back. The results showed my liver enzymes rose off the charts. My neuro had me stop talking the Gilenya immediately.
744256 tn?1234842664 ve heard different opinions on relapses during pregnancy. My neuro said that pregnancy is a natural immunity to MS relapses. I've been told by others that their neuros said that it just makes it less likely to have a relapse or that they are milder during pregnancy. What is your opinion on this? Thanks so much!
1391915 tn?1280633407 Is anyone else on Copaxone? I was diagnosed in June, and I started treatment almost three weeks ago. How are you tolerating the treatments?
Avatar f tn Just a bit of stress to say the least. Since my most recent exacerbation, my doctor has restarted me on medication this time Copaxone. So far, I think the side effects are minimal at best. However, I have over the last week or so developed numbness on the right side of my tongue. Food tastes horrible, powdery, and when I was brushing my teeth this morning I realized that my tongue is numb as well as my lower right side gum. Is this a side effect of Copaxone? MS? What can it be?
Avatar m tn Our nurse at one of our MS support groups brings to our attention that the article skims over the Copaxone side effects and makes no mention of the Copaxone site reactions, but focuses on the liver concerns with all the others. That is the concern. Taking into context the fiscal crisis in the state of NV there are program cuts continuing across the board for many services.
1710955 tn?1309446473 I was just dx with ms in July of this year. I'm on my second week or copaxone injections and they seem to be going pretty well so far. My question to everyone is how long do your relapses last? I've been having sx ever since mid May with more sx coming on every week. Obviously the copaxone takes a long while to work. My neuro believes that I've had ms for 10the yrs, but my sx have never lasted this long.
1637739 tn?1371688706 I have been taking Copaxone going on 5 months now. For the last 3, I have had the itchy lumps for a day or two after. I thought maybe they would get better but they really aren't. The PA at the neurologist office said they probably wouldn't. My question is this: Should I continue to tough it out or should I switch? I am curious from others if they have dealt with this and what they did about it. The itching isn't that bad, it's the lumps that bother me the most.
1055329 tn?1300322731 I have been taking Copaxone for a year now and lately have experienced small heart palpatations here and there the last week.My neuro doesn't seem to think it has anything to do with my meds!! Has anyone else on Copaxone experienced this????
Avatar f tn After going to my Neuro and several tests later, I finally have a diagnosis, RRMS. He was very thorough with the first visit and this follow up visit was to confirm his suspicions that I did indeed have RRMS. Although I felt alot of relief to finally have a name for what is going on with me, I wasn't prepared for the flood of emotions that come with knowing that you have a lifelong, potentiall life altering disease.
400099 tn?1282954864 Has anyone on copaxone noticed elevated blood sugars? I'm all of a sudden throwing really high blood sugars and we (doc included) can't figure it out. They just keep escalating. Tonight, I'm up to 215. Never been that high ever. So my honey and I are wondering if the copaxone could be triggering this. Started elevating since I've been on it.
Avatar n tn Okay, so my OB and OBGYN Specialist both say that Copaxone is a Category B and is safe to take during pregnancy. They said it is safe because it is not an Interferon. Does anyone have any medical statistics, white papers, or published studies that shows otherwise? I need real facts here. Quix - thanks for all your help and clarification. I appreciate it! Thanks.
1678656 tn?1369233818 Did they tell you that you had optic neuritis? That was my first flair as far as we know. I've had it 3 or 4 times. I don't remember. I went on prednisone a few times and it worked every times. Lately, for the past few months off and on, I've been having jumpy vision. It gives me pretty bad migraines. I get migraines very easily so I'm on daily meds for that as well. It seems to work well but it doesn't stop the things that trigger my migraines.
1936411 tn?1333831849 The pressure changes and the temperature changes can make the copaxone useless. The same goes with keeping it in the car during a hot summer or cold winter day. Shared Soutions has a nice travel kit for copaxone, that keeps those syringes and autoinjector well cushioned, in a small size wallet, that can easily be carried in your purse, backpack or carryon luggage. Call them and ask for it to be sent to you. BTW they also have a hard-sided storage box for use in the refrigerator.
Avatar f tn For those of you women who have taken Copaxone, Have you ever noticed a decrease in your period (noticeable) or even disappearance of it. I have taken three pregnancy tests all negative and this is not normal for me. Just wondering if it could be the medication. Have any of you expreinced this?
1084398 tn?1277304810 This medicine is helping. Thank goodness. This numbness I guess was just a 3-4 hour thing. It's gone as well as the walking on a moving bridge. THANK GOD!!! UGH! I had to give the Steroids myself last night and boy did it hurt. I'm thinking it was because I didn't take it out of the fridge 2 hours early before I gave it (didn't get home in time). I only got it out 1 hour early. She told me to pull out the IV, hold firm and heat it. I'm glad I did this.
