Converting toprol xl to metoprolol

Common Questions and Answers about Converting toprol xl to metoprolol

toprol

Avatar m tn When I made that same switch a few years ago, I went from 100mg Toprol XL once a day to 100mg metoprolol succinate once a day. Neither my doctor nor my pharmacist ever suggested that I would need to split the dose. My understanding is that metoprolol succinate is an extended release formuation that substitutes directly for Toprol XL. But ask your doc or a pharmacist to make sure. I'm off of the drug entirely now, so I don't worry with it anymore.
214864 tn?1229715239 com report, consumers have experienced increased blood pressure, increased heart rate and ectopic beats, as well as side effects such as nausea, dizziness and headaches when switched from Toprol XL to Metoprolol Succinate ER. ConsumerLab.com noted that the Sandoz formulation of the product is different from Toprol XL and dissolves in a different manner.
Avatar m tn After wearing a halter monitor for 24hours and now knowing my heart rate rises to 140 in my sleep and when sitting and also I had an echocardiogram and it came back normal which is good so I know my heart is ok and this is due to my anxiety . I was given Toprol XL 25 mg to take but I am afraid to take it. I know its my anxiety talking but is it safe to take when it is for anxiety and to steady my heart rate? Also how does it make you feel?
Avatar f tn Well, It's been almost a month since I got back on the brand TOPROL XL and I feel like I have my life back. Everyone who has ever experienced PVC's or arrhythmias will tell you that once they start, they ruin your day/week/month. I had a horrible 3 months on the generic Metoprolol Succinate ER. In summary, these were the symptoms that I had, while on the generic.
Avatar n tn Many people report an increase in heart palpitations after switching from Toprol XL to its generic version, Metoprolol. My guess is that the generic version is ****, which is the case with many generics, despite what the FDA tells consumers.
Avatar m tn Metoprolol caused me hair loss....Bystolic has slowed it down somewhat....
Avatar n tn I understand Metoprolol SR and Toprol XL are equivalent, the Metoprolol being the generic, and much lower in cost. I've taken both, albeit it has been at least 6 years since I last used the brand-name Toprol XL. I guess I'm 'lucky" as far as HR goes. If I take 100 mg twice a day of Metoprolol my rest HR goes into the 70s at rest. I have been trying lower dose to see if that reduces the dream problem I have.
Avatar f tn HTN, chest pain ect.
Avatar f tn My pharmacacy switched my "Toprol XL 50 mg" to a Generic one called "Metoprolol Succinate ER 50 mg" (manufactured by Sandoz) in December 2007. I have been on some form of Beta Blockers for years and I thought nothing of it. Within a week I was at my eye doctor because my left eye went from 20/20 to 20/60 and was so blurry that I felt like I had suntan lotion or something in it. Since then I have been to so many doctors because things just kept getting worse.
Avatar f tn The Toprol XL (Metoprolol Succinate) tablet should not be cut in half. Doing so defeats it's time release properties. If you want to mess with dosages (and I don't think you should), the generic Metoprolol Tartrate (referred to as just Metoprolol) can be cut in half without a problem. I take an odd, 75mg. Per day; 50mg at dinner, and 25mg (half a pill) upon rising. Think of your dose level as a "starting dose level".
Avatar n tn I have taken Toprol xl 25 mg for about 5 years. My doctor switched me to metoprolol several months ago. When I filled my prescription this time, it was from a different mfg and I think I may be having problems with it as I just don't feel right. Could changing the mfg make a difference? ALSO, my doctor prescribed 50 mg to be cut in half for my prescribed 25 mg dose. Does cutting this tablet in half compromise the time release?
Avatar f tn The Pharmacist at CVS gave this to me instead of the Toprol-xl my Doctor had prescribed. I think the dosage is too big and I have had more trouble with the pill than without. I took myself off it for a while, to get some sleep and to stop the headaches. The CVS Pharmacist gave it to me AFTER the drug was recalled. It is the big pills that they are talking about.
Avatar n tn Diana: Id say toprol xl or its generic .. metoprolol... Ive taken all three with out much trouble....hope this helps...
Avatar m tn I found out through experimentation years ago that none of the generics worked - it used to be Toprol XL - except when I found them actually made by the original manufacturer and sold as Metoprolol.
Avatar n tn My dr put me on Benicar 20mg and Toprol XL 25mg to lower my blood pressure. I have a fast pulse too (always over 100). Will these meds lower my pulse also?
Avatar f tn I was on Toprol XL for a number of years, but only 25mg. I hated the side effects such as shortness of breath and nightsweats, but never depressions. Then I went to see a cardiologist and he took me off the beta blocker and prescribed a calcium channel blocker - 5mg.
Avatar f tn I have had increased blood pressure and heart rate over the last several months and my doctor put me on Toprol XL 25mg. Now I am having severe pain in my right knee which goes down into my ankle causing sharp pain. Could this problem be caused by the medication I am taking for my BP? I am taking the generic form, Metoprolol ER. Thank you.
Avatar n tn I am now on toprol XL 50mg once a day. My blood pressure is running 120/71 now. when the PVC are happening I am dizzy and cannot think straight. I dont know how I can just live with this when I feel so flush and cannot function. Seems like 1/3 less pulses means 30 % less oxygen carrying RBC are circulating. It seems debilitating to me. Can the toprol XL dose be increased without running my blood pressure down too low. How high can it be raised safely.
Avatar n tn 25 mg of Toprol XL is a VERY small dose. I know plenty of patients at the hospital I work at, that take well into the 100mg + beta blocker regimen. I would imagine if you had any side effects, they would be minor. Beta blockers are safer than the anti-arrhythmic drugs that are sometimes used for pvc's. Toprol XL will lower your heart rate and blood pressure and the sensation of your heart beating. However, it is unlikely to solve your pvc issues.
Avatar m tn I don't think Metoprolol makes them worse. What I have seen on myself, however, is that it doesn't work at all. I took up to 50 mg a day. I switched temporarily now to Toprol XL to see if that's the answer since the generics seem to have no effect.
Avatar m tn Are you taking metoprolol?... metoprolol does that to me..have to take toprol xl instead.. dunno just wondered...
Avatar m tn i am taking toprol xl 25 mg (half in am and half in pm. it seems to be working on bp but when i am up on my feet heart rate goes to 100-115. why isn't it working on hr.
Avatar n tn I just moved to Europe and mnow realized this and what am I going to do? I can order Toprol XL from Canada and Turkey and even from Mauritius etc. yet European doctors do not prescribe it. What am I going to DO??
Avatar f tn Hello to everyone. My questions are concerning the drug toprol xl. I've been on this medication for about 6months now, and have over these past few months I've developed symptoms that initially led me to believe I had ovarian problems. that was found not to be the case, had ct scan and pelvic ultrasound. everything is normal , except for a umbilical hernia and degenerative arthrits, with some spurring of the spine. I had already been diagnosed with the arthritis.
1347434 tn?1282591778 s an older-style beta-blocker. He told me that he wanted to switch me to Metoprolol, which acts more directly on the heart and not other organs. He started me off on a dose of 100mg per day. And, here is the freak in me. I'm so scared to start taking this medication. The warnings on the Nadolol aren't nearly so terrifying as this med. My biggest fear is that it won't control my NSVT like the Nadolol does and I'll have breakthroughs. I'm also worried about side effects.
Avatar f tn Hi there again, I posted about the switch to generic Metoprolol from brand Toprol back in March. Just a thought, I wonder if when they switched you back to the Brand Toprol...did they put you back on Toprol "XL". It's long acting. The generic "metoprolol" Succinate ER did not stay in my system like the Toprol XL, something about the binding properties that didn't let it last the full 24 hours. Taking the generic was like taking nothing at all for me.
