My fiance is Mexican and his first language is Spanish, so he will be talking to our daughter mostly in Spanish. English is My first language but I can also speak Spanish. My fiance also knows how to speak a little of an Aztec language.

I fell yesterday and I started having contractions and I am 28 weeks and they kept me for observation and gave me a steroid shot and I am having another on to mature his little lungs just in case he decided to come early but it is way to early for me.

I have two different friends that speak both and they teach their babies both (under 2yrs old) and i noticed they know a little bit of each language but they are a lot more behind on just one language. Like instead of knowing twenty words in english only, they know only 5 words in english and 5 in spanish. I have no idea what others experience with it is like, this is just how both of these babies are and they are not associated with one another.

There will be more testing when he gets older. In the mean time , i need to find a way to learn sign language.. do you ladies know of any places or books that can help me?

There is no question that in the area of speech/language he is delayed and there are indicatins his social development is also delayed. It is possible that he displays a type of pervasive developmental disorder, but the only way to know this is have him evaluated in all the major areas of development (motor, cognitive, social, emotional). This has nothing to do with ADHD and, in any case, he is far too young to be adequateluy evaluated in that area.

I would say just keep speaking to baby in English and pointing things out and repeating the names in English. Try to limit how much everyone else speaks to him if they can't speak English. And let them know you want your baby to learn English first. Learning both at same time can cause a lot of confusion and delay in speech. My in laws don't speak English and respect our wishes and have their kids translate for them with my youngest until she is fully able to speak English.

Please for those who speak Fillipines or Chinese or Estonia or any other language. What does the word or phrase 'KOLIMINA' or 'KOLO AKAMINA' or anything similar to it. Does it have meaning?

I'm not sure what or if in your area you have a child development centre, but my son had the same problem and they assigned him a therapist. They would come out and work with him one on one, and we went to a few "play date" sessions with other kids where they observe the children and help them use their words or describe things. It made a world of a difference for my son.

I have not be dx'd, but for 7+ years, I have had problems with language. At first, it was just verbal. On those days where I'd have the brain fog, my voice was soft and I found that I would misuse words or garble syllables/words. This still continues; while it generally lasts for the better part of the day, it usually only lasts for a day and it can be weeks or months between episodes. And yes, I do have the slurring of speech, even on days without brain fog.

Most diagnoses at this age are not very accurate, but intervention is incredibly helpful regardless of the diagnosis. There is a lot of fluctuation in development and a million reasons why it might be off track...what is important is to see if it is "off" enough to require intervention. If yes, then do it. Your son's receptive language development is outdistancing his expressive language development, but he's on the right track. Don't be too concerned that in that area he is a bit delayed. Most children have areas in which they are more intact than in other areas. When you communicate with your son, try to focus on helping him express himself.
