Common Questions and Answers about Concussion youth athletes

concussion

Avatar f tn It is abundantly clear that in some cases concussions may result in seizures. That is not a "theory". It is a medical fact. It doesn't require "discussion". But not all concussions result in a seizure. There can be varying degrees of damage depending on the severity off the blow, where the impact takes place, and from resultant swelling, and if there is a delay in seeking medical attention. A "concussion" is not a "concussion".
Avatar f tn A month ago I was in a bad car accident. My car flipped and I hit my head going unconscious. So obviously I had a concussion. I'm healing and have been trying to decide which exercise would be the best? I've belonged to a gym since Oct. but am just concerned to start exercising again. My dr says I need to treat myself as if I have a concussion for at least a year, or while symptoms last. I get headaches, dizziness, sometimes very mild forgetfulness.
Avatar f tn I received all of these from sports and have since pulled myself from such dangerous situations but I fear I am still dealing with the after effects of my reckless youth. After my last concussion I had extremely bad vertigo, memory loss, and headaches. They got so bad I had to get a Cat Scan because they thought my brain might be bleeding, thank god it was negative. Well I recently got in a car accident and have no clue if I did hit my head or not.
Avatar f tn In october 2011 my son was injured in a football game and suffered a subderal hematoma which he was taken to cardial glennon to be treated however surgury was not required the bleeding stopped and absorbed quickly the doctors attributed this to youth and God. He was not allowed to play the rest of the year, but was cleared to wrestle when the season started, his cat scans all came back good and he recovered really well.
Avatar m tn BTW, if you have access to see an "Osteopath" doctor, do so ASAP. They can do a number of gentle musculoskeletal techniques like cranial-sacral which restores healthy flow of CSF up/down spine & around brain. Also, it's billed as a dr. appointment & doesn't take away from limited therapy visits allowed.
Avatar m tn t remember the medical term for it) were athletes who took many shots to the head over many years and played while they had the concussion/still had concussion symptoms. AND before we knew about the seriousness of injuries to the brain. There is a reason why in sports today that people need to pass concussion protocol tests before they are allowed to return to activity. I suppose I'm trying to relate this to sports as you talked about boxing.
Avatar f tn m the best player on my team and have no one to look up to. I play with girls that are so terrible that I got a concussion a month ago and have decided not to play, it's doing nothing for me anymore. It's not the same. My dream was to play lacrosse at Johns Hopkins University where I would study to be a nurse. That dream is no longer happening since there is no competition here and my grades have slipped to the lowest they've ever been.
1100598 tn?1413127426 No I dont have a garden. I live in a apartment complex. I have tried using a spray athletes foot remedy and the problem has gotten worse. Now my toe is swollen and tender along with the redness and cracking. Lotion does not help either. I will try dipping my feet in vinegar.
Avatar n tn I have had a very bad athletes foot problem on my left foot between my small toe for over 4 months that wont go away don't matter what creams i have tried. Please help me. EzEl...
Avatar f tn Can gonorrhea be cured with a special type of athletes foot cream or does it just relieves the symptoms? Because I went to the doctor and my results were positive of having gonorhea from my vaginal exam, I told the doctor that the symptoms only occured outside of my genitals but yet he found the bacteria near my cervix. he gave me an athletes foot cream and told me to apply it twice a day until the syptoms stop then told me I could leave.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know if there is anything safe for baby to treat athletes foot? I'm miserable....
Avatar f tn There have been a number of instances where our 8 yr old grandson has shown abnormal behavior. He has always been overly interested in sexual situations. He wants to shower with his 10 yr old sister, he is constantly getting in trouble for searching inappropriate, sexual topics on his parents phones or tablets (he has been banned, but he'll sneak them when no one is looking). A few months ago he found a perfectly healthy frog, went into the house, got shoe and crushed it to death.
Avatar n tn Or it just be nothing,HRs are strange things and vary from person to person, also this was diagnosed when I was 62, 10 years ago, although I have probabley had it all my life. I was a high performance biker in my youth, but we knew nothing about this stuff in those days. No pulse monitors those days, and as for A-Fib, just rode through it.
Avatar m tn I have had multiple broken bones, dislocations, torn muscles, strained muscles, tendon injuries, a concussion, more contusions then I could ever count, and jammed ever joint I have. A lot of the strain my body took in college I believe was escalated due to the weight (body) changes my coaches would ask of me season to season. One season I was asked to gain 40 lbs (which I did successfully), and then told to drop 20 in the offseason.
Avatar m tn I was involve in a very bad car accident 02/10 and have no memory of the actual wreck. the hospital deemed I have a severe concussion and then also diagnosed me with Post Concussion Syndrome. I am currently also experiencing back and neck problems as well as getting a collarbone checked out for a possible fracture. My question is does coffee effect concussion and PCS recovery. And how long does recovery generally take.
Avatar n tn I have a serious concussion and I have strained my trapiuses muscle... I also have osgood schlatters in one leg and I can't run with out getting dizzy due to the concussion... I really need to work out ... I have been out for a month ... Please and thank you !
Avatar f tn Loss of consciousness isn’t required for a diagnosis of concussion or post concussion syndrome. Post concussion syndrome occurs within first 7 to 10 days and until 3 months. Symptoms are variable including dizziness, fatigue, irritability, anxiety, insomnia, loss of concentration and memory, light and noise sensitivity, headache varying from a tension type to cluster headaches. You need to consult a neurologist immediately.
Avatar f tn I am a concussion survivor. Could you get a concussion if your head stops suddenly from a fast movement? Yesterday I was in a hurry and running and pushed the door in front of me. It stopped abruptly which caused my body to stop too. Could this cause a concussion? I'm scared because I am recovering from a concussion already. Does it make me more prone to brain injury? Please, help me!

I've never had this happen to me before. and if I did have a concussion, what should I do? :( This discussion is related to concussion.
Avatar f tn I have to say NO contact sports too, look at the football players with the concussion syndrome....head injury on athletes that did not have this issue, plus they shave bone off the top 2 vertebrae making it weaker so a contact sport to me is more dangerous...
Avatar f tn I got a concussion about 3 months ago at a cheer competition when a girl fell and elbowed me in the face. I didn’t get knocked unconscious but I blacked out for 3 or 4 seconds. Immediately after my performance I went to the athletic trainer who performed an assessment and asked what my symptoms were. Immediately I had a headache, I saw halos around lights, and I felt like I was in a dream state.
Avatar f tn Had a concussion several weeks ago with instant headache & nausea which have gotten worse. Already had 2 CT scans without contrast, showing they were normal. The headaches and nausea are pretty bad daily, have gotten worse since the concussion. I'm now scheduled for an MRI scan, should I do it with or without contrast. Have read so many negative things about getting it with the contrast.
