Avatar f tn John's concussion occured over a year ago. Is it too late for treatment? What are the treatment options? He has also been on quite a few medications to deal with this sleep problems. Could any medications that are either used to help with sleep or used to promote day time wakefulness cause hperosmia?
Avatar n tn Time will tell (usually by puberty) whether there is a problem as growth of the nasal bones and septum result in either a cosmetic or a functional problem. If so, treatment would be more appropriate at that time. Any surgical treatment now might affect growth centers that could condemn her to more problems later.
Avatar n tn I would have him evaluated by a developmental specialist for starters. My husband and two boys all have ASD issues. Asperger's as well as other ASDs can have anger issues associated with them. You can also try giving him a special stuffed animal that he can squeeze when he is upset. That may take him mind off of banging his head and also help to calm him down.
Avatar f tn My 12 year old son, Ben, suffered a concussion in April 2008 when he was hit with a line drive hardball in his left eye while playing baseball. The impact of the ball caused the concussion, and the shape of his pupil is now oval. I took him to a pediatric opthamologist who did a thorough exam. He said there is no lasting damage other than the shape of the pupil, but he needed glasses.
1983058 tn?1527442254 So he started IV fluids, sedation and pain medication, antibiotics, and steroids for the concussion. I believe he said that he did put a nasal catheter in for oxygen treatment as well. He said that his condition was guarded. I know that there is no way that anyone can give me assurance that is concrete but any would surely be wonderful. I will not hear anything until tomorrow by 10 a.m. . Does anyone have any experience in this area? Any encouragement is very much appreciated.
Avatar m tn To cut to the chase, just because you or your child has a concussion does not mean you are going to die. There are always exceptions, but usually a mild concussion will resolve by itself with no long lasting effects.
163305 tn?1333668571 Many doctors think the best treatment for fibromyalgia is thyroid replacement hormones, since fibromyalgia was not even a condition until the mid 1980's when it was decided that TSH would be the "gold standard" for thyroid testing and because the range was too wide, many people who had previously been diagnosed with hypothyroidism, were now left with no diagnosis...
Avatar f tn Usually, such headaches and dizziness may result due to post-concussion syndrome and may last for weeks or months after the injury that caused from the injury of a fall, vehicle accident, or sports injury. In addition, patient may experience either migraine type or tension type headache. For treatment approach, first it is essential to get (MRI) done to detect the brain abnormalities after that injury.
Avatar n tn As you know, a "Grade 1" concussion is the mildest category. That being said,m there is no such thing as a "harmless concussion", and in the final analysis Lacross is a meaningless activity. Missing a season is not worth a lifetime of problems. I am somewhat concerned he did not have an MRI, and insofar as school authorities are mandated to pick-up-the-bill, this non-invasive test should have been provided.
Avatar n tn I have had patients with this condition. However, there is no specific treatment for post-concussion syndrome. Management usually is directed at individual symptoms. This is why it is recommended that you have regular follow-ups for proper management of your symptoms. Take care and best regards.
Avatar n tn When she was nine another child accidentiaily bumped her in the head, she passed out, we took her to the ER, she was diagnosed with a concussion. Could this have created an issue and what can we do to help resolve it?
Avatar f tn Hi, The symptoms that your husband describes may be those of Post Concussion Syndrome. Post-concussion syndrome, is a set of symptoms that a person may experience for weeks, months, or occasionally years after a concussion, a mild form of traumatic brain injury. Symptoms may include headache, difficulty concentrating, irritability etc.
Avatar n tn I fell backwards 1 month ago, suffered a concussion, and have lost my sense of taste and smell. I have learned that this is caused by nerve damage. I am also lightheaded and my ears are somewhat plugged(ear pressure). I was wondering how long a nerve takes to heal itself, or does it? Is the dizziness a result of the injury or a seperate issue?
Avatar m tn This condition is a complex disorder in which a combination of post-concussion symptoms like headaches, tinnitus and dizziness are experienced. There are no specific treatment for post-concussion syndrome but treatment for the individual symptoms you experience is made by your doctor. Regular follow-up with your doctor is highly recommended. Take care and regards.
Avatar f tn After suffering a concussion April 17, 2008 I lost my sense of smell and taste. I was pushed off a 3 foot wall and knocked out for over a minute. I have had a CT scan and an MRI which show nothing wrong. But I still cannot smell or taste anything. Any suggestions?
Avatar m tn I'm in highschool and during soccer i got a concussion, the doctors said my brain was fine in a cat scan but ever since I have had chronic migraines and headaches for a year now. I saw a neurologist and am on amitriptyline and zolmitriptan. It has reduced my headaches from everyday to four times a week and my migraines from twice a week to once a month. i found that also pushing myself through physical exercise helps too. I still cannot attend school though and am homeschooled as a result.
Avatar f tn Hi, Thank you for your question. After such head impact such kind of neurological symptoms are common due to extent of damaged part of brain and may remain symptomatic or progress in future. Although any sure success cure can not be assured in such cases, but symptomatic relief or it may decrease with period of time, physiotherapy, avoiding any triggering factors and life style modification help you in certain extent.
Avatar f tn I am wondering if anyone has had a similar experience and if it was related to an accident? Also, what was the medical diagnosis and what treatment did your child receive. Thank you.

Avatar f tn It is abundantly clear that in some cases concussions may result in seizures. That is not a "theory". It is a medical fact. It doesn't require "discussion". But not all concussions result in a seizure. There can be varying degrees of damage depending on the severity off the blow, where the impact takes place, and from resultant swelling, and if there is a delay in seeking medical attention. A "concussion" is not a "concussion".
Avatar n tn Your symptoms could be due to migraine or PCS ( post concussion syndrome ) because of the concussion that you had years ago. Please go for an MRI brain to know the exact cause and consult a neurologist for treatment as a delay could be dangerous. There are chances of getting a stroke. Hope this helps you. Take care and regards !
Avatar f tn t done anything like that since, until I got the concussion and a few months into the treatment etc I started cutting again and feeling suicidal. I didn't tell anyone at first because I was worried about my work finding out. Could this all be from the concussion?

Avatar m tn Alright so let me start off by saying i know how ridiculous this sounds but I need to be sure. Im 18.Today was a normal morning, I went to the my couch and kinda jumped down into it. I landed on my butt with my body toward the tv. when i landed though i felt a sort of "thump" on the top of my head when i landed almost as if my brain hit the top of my skull. I wouldn't say I have a headache like getting your bell rung, but lets just say i felt a lot better before I sat down.
Avatar f tn There have been a number of instances where our 8 yr old grandson has shown abnormal behavior. He has always been overly interested in sexual situations. He wants to shower with his 10 yr old sister, he is constantly getting in trouble for searching inappropriate, sexual topics on his parents phones or tablets (he has been banned, but he'll sneak them when no one is looking). A few months ago he found a perfectly healthy frog, went into the house, got shoe and crushed it to death.
Avatar n tn Please consult a neurologist. The treatment is to remove the compression. You have to discuss the best treatment option with a neurologist, which can range from medication to physiotherapy to traction, cervical collars or even surgery. Alternatively you can visit a chiropractor or a physical therapist and learn some exercises which you can do to relieve the compression. Hope this helps. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage.
Avatar n tn I was hit from behind when playing ball hockey and I suffered a concussion after I went head first into the goalie. I had a cat scan done and it was normal immediately after the hit. Its been 11 months and everytime I try a light exercise for example walking around the block for about 20 minutes I get headaches. I used to swim, jog and play sports regularly and now since the accident I have gained a lot weight and don't know what to do to stay active.
Avatar f tn My friend recently got kicked in the head at a soccer game now whenever she moves her head the inside of her head hurts where she got kicked. Is this just a concussion or worse? She doesn't want to go to a doctor until after the season is over.
