Concussion symptoms in elderly

Common Questions and Answers about Concussion symptoms in elderly

concussion

Avatar f tn re now several years after the fact and the same area that was tender immediately following the concussion is STILL tender to the touch, with various other symptoms present. I will be going in for additional imaging in the coming weeks, but my question is, is this normal? Is it a sign of something more serious, like a brain tumor? Can concussions even cause brain tumors? Thanks for any and all help. I'm just nervous for the imaging and possible findings, so seeking input here.
Avatar f tn Which has made art class extremely difficult has well has reading on the whiteboards in my school. My other symptoms deal with memory lose. I noticed that for a couple months following the concussions I had lost parts of my vocabulary. Really simple words like "book" or "wait". Its gotten better but I still notice it. And also short term and long term memory lose. I randomly lose "chunks" of time, like days or sometimes weeks at a time.
Avatar n tn Im thinking of any hormonological problem,or maybe an oldest injury in the back of my head(15 y ago) with concussion and speech-words disorder for the first time.Do you think of anything?Any suggestions?Thank you all.
Avatar m tn A doctor generally looks for focal neurological or generalized neurological symptoms that would show there is a pressure on brain somewhere. In absence of these symptoms and based on the history a diagnosis of concussion is given. If concussion is severe, and there is underlying brain injury, then yes, even death can occur. Hope this helps! Take care!
Avatar f tn re supposed to take it easy after a concussion and orgasm raises your BP and all. Most of my symptoms of the concussion have gone away, aside from double vision. Thoughts?
Avatar n tn https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/post-concussion-syndrome/symptoms-causes/syc-20353352 Make sure to tell the doctor about all of the workouts you're doing, to make sure you're not perpetuating the problem by doing a specific exercise. Hope you start to improve!
Avatar f tn My son was diagnosed with Benign Exterior Hydrocephalus with Chronic Subderral Hematomas at age 1. We believe he bonked his head (he did seem to have a target on it) and with the Hydrocephalus his brain bounced around and tore a vessel. Thankfully the hematoma reabsorbed. We didn't need surgery. He has been "on the high end of normal" for 9 years now for his Hydro so we hadn't needed surgery there either.
Avatar m tn Week ago i had fell on ice, causin a concussion neck and back injury,,I now have congestion in my ears with fluid along with other bad symptoms, is all this normal , espcailly the fluid in ears buildup, headache vison ringin in ears,, thank u
Avatar f tn My kitty did that when she had a concussion. But she had other symptoms as well. She was angry and scared, eyes also watered and she went and hid. I would just keep observing him closely.
Avatar f tn Loss of consciousness isn’t required for a diagnosis of concussion or post concussion syndrome. Post concussion syndrome occurs within first 7 to 10 days and until 3 months. Symptoms are variable including dizziness, fatigue, irritability, anxiety, insomnia, loss of concentration and memory, light and noise sensitivity, headache varying from a tension type to cluster headaches. You need to consult a neurologist immediately.
Avatar n tn She then attempted to vomit unsuccesfully many times before fading in and out of concsiousness. Is that concussion or is it more serious??
Avatar f tn I would rather have my MRI read in Cleveland. I wonder how long a person can have concussion symptoms. If the symptoms should have disappeared by now, I have to wonder if it is the Chiari that is worse bc of the hard hit on the head.
Avatar f tn Yesterday I suffered mild blow to the head. I have hit my head many times before, much harder than yesterday and yet, I've never experienced any symptoms that might be indicative of concussion. Yesterday, however, I felt a bit dizzy for a few minutes immediately after having been hit. Also, 15 minutes following the blow, I started to feel a bit nauseated.
Avatar n tn one week after concussion my 14 week malteese turns in circles all day what can this be.
Avatar f tn It is abundantly clear that in some cases concussions may result in seizures. That is not a "theory". It is a medical fact. It doesn't require "discussion". But not all concussions result in a seizure. There can be varying degrees of damage depending on the severity off the blow, where the impact takes place, and from resultant swelling, and if there is a delay in seeking medical attention. A "concussion" is not a "concussion".
Avatar f tn Anyone please!!
Avatar m tn Trauma to the head including blows, concussion can cause symptoms referred to the facial nerve. Since she has sensory symptoms, this could be trigeminal nerve involvement. There is vomiting which could mean collection of blood intracranially, possible subdural hematoma leading to raised intracranial pressure necessitating emergency intervention. I suggest that you do not lose time and head for the emergency room.
Avatar f tn t due to the concussion but something found because of the concussion causing you to get diagnostic testing done. But I would get a 2d opinion unless the near-surgeon and the testing saw something urgent. A lot can be wrong without symptoms.
Avatar f tn Also I am incredibly unbalanced and all of these symptoms worsened after my last concussion which happened to be my fifth. From this one I had a report of severe concussion with mild amnesia, which four months later has not gone away. I also exhibit no abnormalities in my eyes. Sorry I forgot to include this before.
Avatar n tn symptoms of a concussion can last days, weeks or longer....you never know. and these symptoms you are experiencing now could go away and you could end up with diff symptoms some time after. Im not a doctor but am speaking through experience. what meds did they prescribe you?
Avatar n tn Hello, Thank you for your question. After concussion or impact such kind of symptoms like loss of smell or taste and other symptoms may be common due to extent of damaged part of brain and may remain symptomatic or progress in future. Although any sure success cure can not be assured in such cases, but symptomatic relief or it may decrease with period of time, physiotherapy, avoiding any triggering factors and life style modification help you in certain extent.
Avatar f tn A doctor generally looks for focal neurological or generalized neurological symptoms that would show there is a pressure on brain somewhere. In absence of these symptoms and based on the history a diagnosis of concussion is given. Suicidal thoughts can also be due to damage to the frontal lobe. This can also cause mood swings. Hence please get this assessed by a neurologist. A MRI of the brain should be done. Take care!
Avatar m tn I have FAP in my family and have dealt with many "blockages" and this is not the typical symptoms of a blockage, impaction maybe. Diarrhea for 3 days is not a big thing to be concerned with except for staying hydrated. However, with your dad not wanting to see a doctor and probably hasn't in many years there's not much you can do. You need to convince him that if he doesn't go now his body will force him to go eventually and it may be too late.
Avatar m tn Usually people recover from a concussion without any residual effects. Some people may manifest the symptoms longer and the condition is termed as post concussion syndrome. Repeated concussions are known to double the risk. After a concussion, the levels of brain chemicals are altered. It usually takes about a week for these levels to stabilize again. However, the time it takes to recover from a concussion is variable, so avoid all strenuous activity till complete recovery.
Avatar m tn I hit my head on the ice about 12 hours ago. ER said concussion. I have not had any of the symptoms the ER said I should return for but where the lump was there is now a soft spot. Should I return?
