Common Questions and Answers about Concussion symptoms hours later

concussion

Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with a mild concussion a little under a week ago. i am scheduled to have a full optometry exam (dilation of the pupils) done tomorrow. Is it ok to still have that exam done?
Avatar n tn Any form of concussion ideally should be evaluated by at the emergency room by emergency room physicians, and later admitted for observation about 24-48 hours since neurologic symptoms can still ensue (like weakness, vomiting, decrease consciousness, etc.). A CT scan is not mandatory for concussion, however this should be done for any person with neurologic symptoms such as preferential weakness of one part of the body, severe headache, or decreasing sensorium.
Avatar f tn Hello. The ER doctor usually looks for any sign of life threatening condition. If he does not find any, he may not think any further, and may send you home. The acute symptoms of concussion start fading away soon after the injury. Hence it is likely that the ER will miss it completely.
Avatar f tn Everyone thought she was fine, and she kept practicing after her fall, but later she was diagnosed with a minor concussion. She felt fine afterwards, no headaches or anything. So I thought the same thing might have happened to me?
Avatar f tn It bled alot at first then slowed down and stopped completely around 8 hours later. it seems to be healing but is still slightly an openish soar. I had a headache of course for the past three days which has reduced to a dull ache. There is a loss of feeling around the area, accept the gash which is more sore. I get slightly sick to my stomache when its messed with and now my head seams to be constontly itching. I also had a slight eye twitch which has stopped.
Avatar f tn After head injury or impact such kind of symptoms like loss of smell or taste and other symptoms may be common due to extent of damaged part of brain and may remain symptomatic or progress in future. Although any sure success cure can not be assured in such cases, but symptomatic relief or it may decrease with period of time, physiotherapy, avoiding any triggering factors and life style modification help you in certain extent.
Avatar m tn Was intoxicated. Had a huge lump. Went to Urgent Care 3 days later, no need for a CT scan just a mild concussion. Did not have any symptoms beside bruised head. Next day, I was very, very dazed. Felt like I was in a dream Day after that had some mild headaches. Went to my regular GP 3 days later. Again, no need for CT scan just had a mild concussion. I have severe anxiety.
Avatar n tn You have quite a few symptoms. Initial hours are crucial for any treatment. I had all your symptoms and later on they found I had bleeding on my brain and still suffering with Post Concussion Symptoms after 2 years 2 months. Go to ER (or any doctor) asap and get evaluated.
Avatar m tn It is possible to have post-concussion syndrome for months and even years after the incident. This condition is a complex disorder in which a combination of post-concussion symptoms like headaches, tinnitus and dizziness are experienced. There are no specific treatment for post-concussion syndrome but treatment for the individual symptoms you experience is made by your doctor. Regular follow-up with your doctor is highly recommended. Take care and regards.
Avatar n tn It was probably a concussion. I have been knocked out while boxing as a teenager so the damage is not necessarily that bad, but don't make a habit of it. In a concussion, there is always brain swelling. There a window of opportunity to reduce the swelling. Action is ideally taken within the first four hours. After 24 hours, there isn't much to do after several days. All the damage than can be done has been done.
16948797 tn?1452582673 t available at the time, and when I woke up about couple hours later.. The bump had reduced its size notably but would not feel the the coldness of the Ice pack as well as other part of the head) I had slight symptoms feeling a bit uncoordinated and a slight headache.
Avatar f tn Yesterday I suffered mild blow to the head. I have hit my head many times before, much harder than yesterday and yet, I've never experienced any symptoms that might be indicative of concussion. Yesterday, however, I felt a bit dizzy for a few minutes immediately after having been hit. Also, 15 minutes following the blow, I started to feel a bit nauseated.
Avatar n tn Generally, such symptoms may result due to post-concussion syndrome and may last for weeks or months after the injury that caused from the injury of a fall, vehicle accident, or sports injury. For treatment approach, first it is essential to get (MRI) done to detect the brain or spinal abnormalities after that injury. Treatment commonly may be suggested for symptoms such as pain-killers, some antidepressants, physical therapy and regular exercises.

Avatar m tn until a couple of hours later that afternoon. Once that started it took almost a week an a half for the pressure to finally subside and I could go back to normal activity. I vouched I would never do that again....trying to sleep lying my head down on my pillow at night and that pressure building and building. I thought my head was going to explode, it was awful. However in July 2012, I was jumping into a swimming pool to catch a football and just happened to land sideways in the water.
Avatar m tn I hit my head on the ice about 12 hours ago. ER said concussion. I have not had any of the symptoms the ER said I should return for but where the lump was there is now a soft spot. Should I return?
Avatar f tn t due to the concussion but something found because of the concussion causing you to get diagnostic testing done. But I would get a 2d opinion unless the near-surgeon and the testing saw something urgent. A lot can be wrong without symptoms.
Avatar n tn when I came home from work he was still sleeping. I am terrifyed that he has a concussion. What will happen if it goes untreated? He is confused, dizzy and won't go to the doctor. He also says he has some pain. should I bring him to th emergency room? help I am scared and don't know what to do.
Avatar n tn symptoms of a concussion can last days, weeks or longer....you never know. and these symptoms you are experiencing now could go away and you could end up with diff symptoms some time after. Im not a doctor but am speaking through experience. what meds did they prescribe you?
Avatar f tn I have severe swelling, got an internal stitch and three external -- but the doctor (who I was later informed was extremely rude) said I didnt have a concussion because I was awake, even though I have absolutely no recollection of any of the events. I couldn't walk, started throwing up, and when we left he said I should probably just go take some ibuprofen and have another drink to ease the pain.
Avatar f tn Anyone please!!
Avatar f tn I suffered a concussion 3 months later which caused additional neurological problems and temporary seizures but those have mostly resolved. 3 years later I have hyperreflexia, spasticity, clonus, and present babinski on my right side and I'm unable to do many activities or run. I have had an MRI of my brain and cervical spine which showed no significant changes.
435918 tn?1204737341 I suffer muscles that get as stiff as metal rods and are very painful. This happened after a concussion with symptoms so strong there were times I could barely walk, along with a host of other symptoms, for weeks after the accident. Then followed the 'metal' muscles. There are a number of very rational reasons to suggest maladaptive synaptogenesis because of focal axon injury, and all i want is to get an mri or dti test and an expert to look at it.
Avatar m tn I also hit the back of my head and had a severe concussion and brain contusion (bruising of brain) 1 year 10 months ago and still suffering with 24/7 dizziness, stuffy head, ringing in ears etc., When it comes to Post concussion syndrome it is really a collections of many many symptoms and confusing. You are only 3 weeks away so it may be too early to call it and most people recover within few weeks or months. I am the unlucky one.

19712445 tn?1483079621 About a week ago I hit my head pretty hard in my four head area 12 hours later I went to the ER because of head pain. They did a CT scan and told me everything was OK. Two days later I was still having hip pain but I was also feeling dizzy lightheaded and fatigue along with other random symptoms. So I went to the ER again all they did was look over my last CT scan and told me I was OK and sent me home.
