Common Questions and Answers about Concussion side effects

concussion

Avatar n tn Hi, I am an 18 year old male who is still suffering from the effects of multiple concussions in high school. I had one my junior year, which was not too serious, and the effects of it soon cleared up. However, the next year, I received a violent blow to the head (football again) in which my mouthpiece wasn't in correctly. I was wearing a revolution helmet, the supposedly concussion proof helmets, which cracked all the way down the side from where I got hit.
Avatar f tn I had a concussion about two years ago maybe three years (I hit the front left side of my head on the car door). I seen stars, I was dizzy, confussed and nauseated it was horrible. I never sought medical treatment for it but the soon after I noticed a lot of changes in me. My ability to think clearly and problem solve was greatly diminished.
Avatar n tn Doc said my daughter can continue with her normal life because this don’t have any side effects to her or nothing to worry about it. Can it possibly just go away without surgery? I am terrified of future problems. He has headaches only occasionally. I don't want this cyst diagnosis to cause my son to miss out on a happy life.
Avatar f tn Her pediatrician has said that she can suffer from side effects for a year or so. Is this true? She is having a lot of pain and pressure in the area of the scarring. I am really starting to get worried. I cannot get a doctor to do any scans to check her out. Am I just an overworring mom or is there something to this?
Avatar f tn Well, yes there will be horror stories of contrast creating reactions, but they are not co common. An average man usually can undergo the contrast MRI without any side effects. Also, it provides very useful information about the brain structures, tumors, infarcts etc which could be missed on simple/plain MRI. Headaches after a brain injury can also be due to concussion, and normally CT and MRI are normal. However, yes, MRI should be done to rule out brain injury as the cause.
Avatar n tn Until the effects from the concussion are better you should not be doing any kind of exercise. I would follow up with your Dr on your concussion sinc eit has been a month.
Avatar f tn I appreciate the help with the side effects, I was trying to figure out if I was having normal side effects and which would be from the Tylenol and which from the oxy. I am trying to make sure I take breaks when I can handle them from the meds, so I don't get dependant or addicted. But the pain gets so bad that I can't sleep for a few days, then I finally take something and wonder if I am in fact getting addicted? Scary, I have seen addiction in my family and it is not good.
Avatar m tn Usually people recover from a concussion without any residual effects. Some people may manifest the symptoms longer and the condition is termed as post concussion syndrome. Repeated concussions are known to double the risk. After a concussion, the levels of brain chemicals are altered. It usually takes about a week for these levels to stabilize again. However, the time it takes to recover from a concussion is variable, so avoid all strenuous activity till complete recovery.
Avatar f tn The next day it wasnt bothering me too bad so I didnt go to the doctor to see if i did have a concussion. Well ever since that weekend, i have pressure headaches on the right side of my head. It hurts on the right side of my neck too and around my ear area, but this is on the right side not the left where i got hit. I've been trying to figure out what might be wrong or if it's just an allergy headache that i get everyday. I havent been to the doc yet, not sure if its serious enough..
Avatar m tn I believe that it has some similar side effects to the symptoms of concussions. I find it hard to tell if my increase in symptoms is related to these side effects, if they are just because I'm not sleeping well, or if it's some combination of both. Would this post be more suited to a neck injury forum? If I wanted to pay and ask these type of questions to one of the doctors in the professional forums, who should I direct them too?
Avatar m tn s use with concussion is just not there to say if it is safe or not. Even in literature supporting marijuana use it states that if you develop any side effects to speak to your doctor right away. If you do decide to use it, the thought is to go LOW and SLOW. It is interesting how common insomnia is after concussion.
Avatar f tn Not sure if this is a side effects of the three concussion I`ve experienced this summer or something else. For about two months I have been experiencing pain on my head about an inch behind my right ear. At first I`d wake up feeling like my husband had accidently punched me in the head during the night. And I noticed that my hearing was diminished in that ear. The ear wax is more watery and at times looks a little greenish with the yellow.
Avatar m tn By any chance have you experienced a head injury? Sometimes those side effects can occur right away or can come later on. For example, I had a concussion and the symptoms never showed until a week or so after the incident, I still will get severe pain every now and then and severe headaches. Another possible cause could be due to stress or like some of the above mentioned.
Avatar f tn Did that affect you and if so, what did you do about it? I am leary about taking sleeping pills to dea, with thr side effects of other pills. Any thoughts?
Avatar m tn m, of course, panicky because of the possibility of a mild concussion and its possible side effects, along with th ehelp of alcohol and poor sleep the first days of the injury -while I should be taking care to rest and all. I feel just a weight sensation and mild pain that comes and goes around the vicinity of the impact, maybe a bit of pain on the opposite side sometimes, but I don't even need acetaminophen. The impact was on the upper-back let side of the head. Could I have a problem?
Avatar f tn It is abundantly clear that in some cases concussions may result in seizures. That is not a "theory". It is a medical fact. It doesn't require "discussion". But not all concussions result in a seizure. There can be varying degrees of damage depending on the severity off the blow, where the impact takes place, and from resultant swelling, and if there is a delay in seeking medical attention. A "concussion" is not a "concussion".
Avatar n tn I'm confused. You said you were diagnosed with a concussion. That would mean you saw a neurologist or another specialist in order to get that diagnosis. If it's a concussion, the effects just don't go away just like that, they linger. So is it a diagnosed concussion by a specialist? Have you had a CAT scan? I mean, a regular PCP can't really diagnose a concussion.
Avatar n tn She then attempted to vomit unsuccesfully many times before fading in and out of concsiousness. Is that concussion or is it more serious??
Avatar f tn s what her doctor recommended. Some medications could have neurologic side effects but again a neuro doctor would be best to point out which if any of her meds could do this. In the meanwhile you could research side effects of the medicines she is on and see if any match her symptoms.
Avatar n tn Elavil (low dosage - 10 mg/day) helped some people with Nausea, sleep etc., but has some side effects. Again each individual react different with any medicine. Unless you feel terrible stay away from drugs since most of the drugs affecting brain chemicals not easy to withdraw. Sadly for PCS there is no specific treatment and drugs may mask some of the symptoms.
Avatar f tn 3 days after incident i took a nap in bed and i woke up and turned my head from my right side over to my left and it felt like i could feel ice cold water inside my head moving to my left side, where my knot was from incident, and it felt as if it was coving that area. I felt my head because i thought maybe i was bleeding because why else would my head feel wet. Also, since then I’ve randomly became in a state of unfamiliarity, nothing will seems real or fimiliar. I get panic attacks now.
Avatar n tn You can use the search feature and archives and read about pseudotumor cerebri. Be sure you read the side effects of diamox; most everyone has some. Most are mild and something you have to put up with. Diamox is also used to prevent altitude sickness; I took it for that reason. Most everyone has pins/needles and numbness in hands and feet; carbonated beverages taste flat; appetite is usually reduced.
