Common Questions and Answers about Concussion return to play

concussion

Avatar f tn Yes, I agree. We were told so little. While he didn't start exercising right away we let him watch T.V and play video games. We later found out that he was supposed to rest his brain from ALL activity....both physical and cognitive. We hope that after four months there is light at the end of the tunnel...we've decided to let him return to normal activity (but no contact sports) because depression is worse than the headaches.
Avatar m tn I have not had any of the symptoms the ER said I should return for but where the lump was there is now a soft spot. Should I return?
Avatar n tn I am considering doing it as punishment for my sins, but on the other hand I dont want to not be able to move my fingers at all cuz I play the piano, and well, i cant play it with only one hand!
Avatar f tn My boyfriend is veryyyy stubborn, so he is trying to play it off but when it gets bad he complains a lot. About four nights ago whilewe were sound asleep my cat decided it would be thE perfect time to Ty for the first time to jump onto out headboard from the nightstand. Out headboard is about three and a half to four feet higher than our heads while we sleep.
Avatar f tn It might still be worth it to your son to go the bioprosthetic route, just to have the chance to play sports in college, but that is a personal decision. As to whether he would, in fact, be allowed to play contact sports with a bioprosthetic valve in place, I am pretty certain that there would be a waiting period of at least about a year, to make sure that the sternum was fully healed.
Avatar m tn I went to the eye doctor last year and they told me I had lattice degeneration and the doctor told me that if I get a concussion I could lose my sight but I don't believe that. I went to the doctor again in January and they told me it hasn't gotten worse. The doctors said I couldn't play basketball. I haven't ever gotten a concussion while playing basketball. Sadly, I'm the one giving concussions.
Avatar n tn If I were you I'd have to say goodbye to sports, although I know how hard it may be. You have to start thinking about your life after high school. One day you will hopefully have a family and you will want to grow old with them and remember who they are. I've personally received multiple concussions. 4 from football (not including times when I got dazed and kept playing), and another two serious ones outside of football. As of now I'm 20 years old.
Avatar n tn Welcome...Bless his/her heart! What happened? This is normally a Neurological Issue due to injury to the brain & nervous system from head trauma....In your case (One week later) sounds as if the swelling has not been brought under control...The Vet that diagnosed the "Concussion" should have given an Anti-inflammatory (Usually steroids) to help with the inflammation. You need to return to your Vet today & have your puppy checked again.....
Avatar n tn I have a serious concussion and I have strained my trapiuses muscle... I also have osgood schlatters in one leg and I can't run with out getting dizzy due to the concussion... I really need to work out ... I have been out for a month ... Please and thank you !
Avatar f tn My coach gave me a concussion test and my head was hurting pretty bad throughout the day. The next day it wasnt bothering me too bad so I didnt go to the doctor to see if i did have a concussion. Well ever since that weekend, i have pressure headaches on the right side of my head. It hurts on the right side of my neck too and around my ear area, but this is on the right side not the left where i got hit.
Avatar f tn I see my life as a 32 year old mother of two at a standstill somewhat when it comes to physical play. I can`t rough house anymore, can`t play hockey with them or run or jump. I have to be somewhat overly cautious to prevent any hit to my head because it will back me again. I`m fearing that this will always be like this but am hoping that someone will tell me that I will get better with time. I am thankful that I still have the ability to raise them and go out and drive again.
Avatar f tn A month ago I was in a bad car accident. My car flipped and I hit my head going unconscious. So obviously I had a concussion. I'm healing and have been trying to decide which exercise would be the best? I've belonged to a gym since Oct. but am just concerned to start exercising again. My dr says I need to treat myself as if I have a concussion for at least a year, or while symptoms last. I get headaches, dizziness, sometimes very mild forgetfulness.
Avatar n tn My boyfriend came home last night and had a blow out in his tire. he was uppset and confused. I thought he was so upset because it was my car. He seemed to forget what exactly happend. when I came home from work he was still sleeping. I am terrifyed that he has a concussion. What will happen if it goes untreated? He is confused, dizzy and won't go to the doctor. He also says he has some pain. should I bring him to th emergency room? help I am scared and don't know what to do.
550814 tn?1214943492 when i came back to pick him up he was acting weird wants to sleep, doesnt want to play and he wont eat or drink anything. he has had a concussion before and he is acting alot like he did when it happened the first time, except he hasnt been throwing up. and i wasnt there yesterday to know what happened. i am worried because it is his second concussion and he is only 10 months old, he is a miniature Shih Tzu.
Avatar f tn I have absolutely no recollection of going to the gas to station or driving home. However, I had a State Police officer come to my home on 1/8/08 to inform me that I drove away from the gas station after pumping 15 gallons of gas and lingering in the store for an hour and purchasing $133.00 in merchandise from mini-oreos to Grizzly Chew (I don't chew). I do not recall this at all!! I am not a thief, I'm a little league coach and don't have a criminal record.
Avatar f tn They all made me out to be crazy which then made me questioning myself. I should su the first neuro i went to bcs he sent me back to play with an undiagnosed concussion. If i got hit in the head again I could have died. Ugh pisses me off so bad. Very few people understand what us sufferrers r going through. Teddy1982 - I think its great that you support your husband and what he is going through.
868804 tn?1239583770 About three years ago I had a concussion in a soccer game. I was knocked unconscious, but got up and managed to play the second half of the game. (big mistake) After the game I felt very sick and when my mom came to pick me up she took me to the hospital right away. The doctors said i had a concussion and gave my mom **** for letting me play the second half. I had a couple more concussions and ended up taking a full year off of all physical activity, as directed by a neurologist.
Avatar f tn ve had to stop playing, which makes coaching a fun but depressing time. I love to coach but I want to jump in and play and be more active :( I've cried myself to sleep numerous times. It is so frustrating to know that I probably won't ever get to do my favorite thing ever again... ugh starting to tear up again... my whole family plays (mom, dad, and 3 sisters - my bro is the only one who doesn't).
Avatar m tn I sustained a minor concussion three weeks ago, and though my logical and linguistic faculties seemed to return to normal within a couple days, I have had persistent feelings of pressure and weakness in my head, though these have markedly diminished within the past week. At present, I have recovered enough that I am able to use the computer (with the monitor at low brightness) for simple tasks like reading and writing emails.
Avatar f tn When I asked If you have to experience concussion to lose brain cells; I meant from a physical act (like a hit) as opposed to a chemcial reaction like drinking alcohol?
Avatar m tn After a month and a half of these adjustments 3 times a week, we gave up on it and I stuck to medication and physical therapy. I would like to be able to return to school soon being that this time in my life is critical to my future and I'm wondering if my condition is reversable. If the atlas is what was knocked out of place during my concussion, is there a way to make it permanently stay in place?
Avatar m tn I play football and i always have. I dont know if i ahve a concussion. I got hit really hard the other day in practice and now i dont know whats really going on. I have been dizzy, had a headache, and feelin sick. I ahve been reallhy confused and wanan know whtas going on. Can someone please tell me?
Avatar n tn Hi, It definately sounds like your husband is experiencing post concussion symptoms. Make sure you get to a neurologist. If you go to your general practioner and he doesn't seem to concern, this may be normal because he may not be too familar with brain injuries. The cat scan and even mri's don't usually see these problems. A lot of doctors don't accept things without proof and this is one of the injuries that you may never see the damage.
