around the area of the top of the Fibula (below and to the right of the knee. I seem to now have a lump there that is not painful but is noticeable when I bend my knee.....any ideas whether this hard bump is something I should worry about or is it just a result of the concussion to the area. As I said it does not sem to hurt or inhibit my activity in any way.....
After suffering a concussion April 17, 2008 I lost my sense of smell and taste. I was pushed off a 3 foot wall and knocked out for over a minute. I have had a CT scan and an MRI which show nothing wrong. But I still cannot smell or taste anything.
Any suggestions?
My son yesterday jumped into the swimming pooll, his knee connected with the side of my eye. I had an x-ray yesterday which showed no fracture, however I now feel worse than I did yesterday with disorientation (I try to walk in one direction and go in the other), dizzyness, fatigue, my limbs feel like led weights, my fingers are tingling. I have an increasingly worse headache and am feeling very nauseous.Things are starting to get very difficult to make sense of!
When I stand on the leg, it seems to swell slightly and the veins stands out and swells, particularly below the knee on the front inside of the calve and once I take the pressure off the leg and relax it the vein swelling subsides. The leg at the knee is still quite stiff and the pain has subsided only slightly. I am worried that the symptoms are not a strained muscle and thus am making this enquiry. - Male 50 years old and in very healthy condition. Many thanks.

Yesterday I was in a hurry and running and pushed the door in front of me. It stopped abruptly which caused my body to stop too. Could this cause a concussion? I'm scared because I am recovering from a concussion already. Does it make me more prone to brain injury?

It impacts the liver, kidneys, every body part .... and yes, the brain of course. Concussion is when some action causes the brain itself to move and impact the inside of the skull. It can be a passive injury that causes no more than a headache ... or it can be very much worse by affecting motor skills and pupil dialation, even speech patterns. Concussion may appear like intoxication but any good doctor would be able to know the difference by just doing a blood test!
Thank you for responding. I'm very active. 4 times a week to the gym, including 25 minutes on a recumbent bike. My weight is lower now than before the accident. Other than a stomach, I'm not exactly "fat", I've always been big. My diet consists of lots of chicken, fruits, veggies, and brown rice. Not much in the stress department really, probably the same as most, home, work, kids, bills, etc. My injuries included a concussion, disc herniation in C 2-6.
It is abundantly clear that in some cases concussions may result in seizures. That is not a "theory". It is a medical fact. It doesn't require "discussion". But not all concussions result in a seizure. There can be varying degrees of damage depending on the severity off the blow, where the impact takes place, and from resultant swelling, and if there is a delay in seeking medical attention. A "concussion" is not a "concussion".
The next day it wasnt bothering me too bad so I didnt go to the doctor to see if i did have a concussion. Well ever since that weekend, i have pressure headaches on the right side of my head. It hurts on the right side of my neck too and around my ear area, but this is on the right side not the left where i got hit. I've been trying to figure out what might be wrong or if it's just an allergy headache that i get everyday. I havent been to the doc yet, not sure if its serious enough..
I found a lump in my abdomen about 5cm long and 2 cm wide. It's near my hip bone. I found it 5 days ago, and 11 days ago I fell off a horse and got significant grazes on my belly, and really hurt my abdomen in that area. Now the lump is not painful. It is slightly movable. After reading up on google, I think it may be intestine which has squeezed through my abdominal muscles, though it feels too close to the skin as I have a few inches of fat there which should be in the way.
Light sensitivity, trouble focusing at near, difficulty concentrating, blurred vision are part of the post concussion syndrome. Not every person has every symptom and not every clears at the same rate. If you need glasses for distance generally you are myopic or nearsighted. That is not due to concussion. You should be seen by an Eye MD ophthalmologist for a medical eye exam.
I had a very bad fall 2 weeks ago, hitting my head very, very hard on window sill. I had a CT & the diagnosis was a concussion but for the past 4 days I have the feeling I cannot get enough air & like I want to yawn but can't. Has anyone had this problem? After my daughter's 2nd concussion in 7weeks from soccer, she is experiencing weakness and numbness in her right side. 4 days after the accident, she is unable to walk without a limp, claiming she feels pins and needles from her butt cheek to her ankle. Her lower arm and hand seem to go numb on and off ... she describes it as hitting her funny bone. Her foot seems to be fine.
I was wondering if there is another condition that had similar symptoms to post concussion syndrome. I have all of the most commonCommon coldsymptoms such as fatigue, nausea, migrains, mood swings, difficulty concentrating and remembering, but I also loss blocks of time, I pass out, and often experience some numbnessNumbness and tinglingon one side of my body. Could I have something other than Post Concussion Syndrome, and if so what?
m wondering if my condition is reversable. If the atlas is what was knocked out of place during my concussion, is there a way to make it permanently stay in place? My meds cause me to be tired and distant from freinds and wondering if I'm going to be stuck with this the rest of my life is really starting to wear on me. If the atlas is not the soloution is there any way to reverse a concussion at all?
A doctor generally looks for focal neurological or generalized neurological symptoms that would show there is a pressure on brain somewhere. In absence of these symptoms and based on the history a diagnosis of concussion is given.
If concussion is severe, and there is underlying brain injury, then yes, even death can occur. Hope this helps! Take care!

My doctor said the same thing, it was do to the concussion and that I would be fine. I read in one of your post that your daughter was said to have Post-Concussion Syndrome after a head injury. I do not know how long ago that was but if you looked up what the doctor was talking about like I do when my kids health is involved. You might of seen that the syndrome can sometimes last over a year in some cases.
As for epilepsy, I have it.
After a concussion, the levels of brain chemicals are altered. It usually takes about a week for these levels to stabilize again. However, the time it takes to recover from a concussion is variable, so avoid all strenuous activity till complete recovery. Also, avoid alcohol but you could take coffee.

I can tell you from personal experience that a concussion can leave you with a variety of neurological issues for over a year. I had a severe concussion appr. 5 years ago. I hit the base of my skull against a metal storage rack. I did not fall unconscious but had to immediately rest as I was feeling off. I actually tried to not fall asleep as I was worried about internal bleeding.
Loss of consciousness isn’t required for a diagnosis of concussion or post concussion syndrome. Post concussion syndrome occurs within first 7 to 10 days and until 3 months. Symptoms are variable including dizziness, fatigue, irritability, anxiety, insomnia, loss of concentration and memory, light and noise sensitivity, headache varying from a tension type to cluster headaches. You need to consult a neurologist immediately.
Until the effects from the concussion are better you should not be doing any kind of exercise. I would follow up with your Dr on your concussion sinc eit has been a month.
