Avatar n tn The brain needs to pay attention to something, hold it in short term memory, link it to meaningful past experiences and then store it in long term memory to lay down a memory. When a sudden event like an accident or a punch to the head occurs this interrupts the ability of the brain to do this, so there are no memories of what happened to result in loss of consciousness.
Avatar f tn This is going to be a long story.. Back on the 9th of June, a small Roku remote landed on my head, later on that day I was in the shower and I patted my head with the bottom of my wrist in the same area the remote landed to straighten my hair out. I did experience nausea and a few headaches and even some memory loss here and there, but I'm not totally sure if that had anything to do with the remote landing on my head or my patting my head.
Avatar f tn In this condition, additional medicines like benzodiazepines (xanax) can lead to a transient phase of disorientation and short term anterograde memory loss. The events happening after the event are forgotten. This is a known phenomenon. So, if you are in trouble from the police (which I hope you are not), this is your defense. Transient global amnesia is a term used some times for such a condition.
Avatar f tn Before this incident, I had a fantastic memory. Since then, my short-term memory is horrible. Avatar m tn Headache, confusion, memory loss, dizziness, nausea vomiting, slurred speech and fatigue are common. Delayed symptoms include depression, irritability, sleep disturbances, seizures, loss of smell etc. Injury to olfactory and lingual nerves of smell and taste could be a cause or it could be that nerves are in shock. Once swelling and contusion following the fall will subside some taste and smell may return. However, when this will happen is difficult to say.
