Common Questions and Answers about Concussion long term affect

concussion

Avatar f tn Hello, I'm trying to figure out what happened after a series of concussions I suffered over the summer (late July). Since none of my symptoms seem to line up with anything, it would be great if you could help. Over the summer I had two concussions one day apart for each other. The first was a blow to the front of my head and I was unconscious for 3 1/2 hours. The second was a blow to the back of my head, were I was dizzy immediately afterwards (then it went away).
Avatar f tn As far as my experience goes, a hit with a base ball bat should cause some short term problems like concussion and post concussion symptoms. But if there was no unconsciousness, nausea or vomiting, a serious brain damage is ruled out. Do you wish to add any more symptoms of yours ?
Avatar n tn http://www.emedicinehealth.com/concussion/page2_em.htm#Concussion%20Symptoms) The symptoms may resolve after some time or may persists. After initial treatment, it is important to go to your follow-up appointments for evaluation and monitoring. Take care and keep us posted.
Avatar m tn I read in one of your post that your daughter was said to have Post-Concussion Syndrome after a head injury. I do not know how long ago that was but if you looked up what the doctor was talking about like I do when my kids health is involved. You might of seen that the syndrome can sometimes last over a year in some cases. As for epilepsy, I have it.
Avatar f tn This is going to be a long story.. Back on the 9th of June, a small Roku remote landed on my head, later on that day I was in the shower and I patted my head with the bottom of my wrist in the same area the remote landed to straighten my hair out. I did experience nausea and a few headaches and even some memory loss here and there, but I'm not totally sure if that had anything to do with the remote landing on my head or my patting my head.
Avatar n tn What is the long term effects from being on Paxil, say ten to twenty years. Has there ever been a study?
Avatar f tn I have issues remembering simple things like take out the trash to long term things like next Monday go to the Doctors. I still have headaches and all of this scares me. Is there a chance all these concussions have done some serious damage to me? Is there anything I can do? Please help, thanks.
Avatar n tn Hi...sorry to hear about the remaining issues.....what was he doing that he was injured?...sports...?I know u said he had CT scans...may I ask y not an MRI?.....and do u have a copy of the report? Since it was 2 wks ago the last time...it is possible that he has swelling and it is not completely healed? Hopefully he did not suffer a condition from the repeat injuries.Head injuries r nothing to let slide...please call his dr and ask him the same questions ur asked here.
Avatar m tn Dear whoever may know, I was diagnosed with anxiety and panic disorder 2 1/2 years ago, and I have been taking Lexapro at 10 mg per day ever since. The medicine has really seemed to have helped my life in all aspects. Whether it has really helped or if this is some kind of placebo effect, I am unsure. I still have moments of reasonable stress at work, but who doesn't...most importantly, I don't have panic attacks anymore.
Avatar m tn I am now worried that by doing this I have been hitting myself significantly hard enough to cause some damage to my head if not in the short term, then in the long term. I know this all sounds like a complete contradiction but it's how my thoughts work at the time. I have resolved to stop doing this but at the back of my mind I'm thinking "did I hit myself hard enough to hurt myself?" and again I'm tempted to do it to see how hard my head is jarred on my shoulder.
Avatar n tn The brain needs to pay attention to something, hold it in short term memory, link it to meaningful past experiences and then store it in long term memory to lay down a memory. When a sudden event like an accident or a punch to the head occurs this interrupts the ability of the brain to do this, so there are no memories of what happened to result in loss of consciousness.
Avatar m tn I am 55, received MRI after concussion. Was told it was unrelated. 2 days after the concussion, my short term memory, wasn't there, I was forgetting what I was doing if distracted by any thing. Example if someone interrupted me while taking, I forgot what I was talking about. Better after 6 months, but still having some issues. Also following the concussion, I had issues walking. I walked to left, crashed into things.
Avatar n tn You need to consult an attorney as soon as possible. People are very reluctant to initiate actions, but there is a chance this may cause long-term problems. Keep copies of all of his medical records. I urge you to seek a teaching hospital for an evaluation that has a staff of neurologists, rather than seeing one individual.
Avatar f tn I was playing rugby and someone smashed my head on the ground (I was knocked out) I don’t know how long but people around me said my eyes went to the back of my head. Plus I couldn’t remember anything past that. I woke up at school infirmary and failed the concussion test, couldn’t even distinguish a chair from a table. He most recent one I also lost consciousness, I passed test this time.
Avatar n tn She then attempted to vomit unsuccesfully many times before fading in and out of concsiousness. Is that concussion or is it more serious??
Avatar f tn ve been nausous since, went to the hospital a bunch of times and was diagnosed with a concussion. They did a CT scan and everything seems normal. Same with neurological test (Where they ask you those weird questions) I'm worried that later on i'm going to have iternal bleeding randomly, or some kind of swelling that will permantly affect me. Will this go away soon by itself or do I have to worry about a random bleed or episode that could be life threatening?
Avatar f tn Amantadine has made a dramatic improvement for me for post-concussion syndrome. I am 8 months post-concussion after getting hit on the left temple by a baseball pitch. CT scan normal, no bleeding or injury. Symptoms had increased over time, but the pressure, migraines, and sensitivity to certain sounds were almost unbearable. I moved to a city with a concussion specialist and have started Amantadine for my initial treatment.
Avatar f tn I suffered a concussion 4 months ago when I fell during a parade with my high school band. My mom took me to the ER and I was diagnosed with a concussion. I had a CT scan and nothing was out of the ordinary, and it seemed to just be a mild concussion. 4 months later, I'm still having issues. I'm a junior in high school and concentration and memory issues made me switch out of all of my honors classes into regular ones and drop both math and science completely.
Avatar m tn I'm a member here, not a Dr. I can give you my opinion about things. It sounds like you're on a very low dose of pain medication considering everything you have going on with your back. I completely understand not wanting to take more, and even that you need to take it at all. Chronic pain can be so very hard to deal with. It can cause a complete change in your life. It can also cause depression and anxiety. I would recommend that you get on a good pain medication regimen.
