Concussion long lasting effects

Common Questions and Answers about Concussion long lasting effects

concussion

Avatar m tn To cut to the chase, just because you or your child has a concussion does not mean you are going to die. There are always exceptions, but usually a mild concussion will resolve by itself with no long lasting effects.
Avatar f tn I suffered a concussion 4 months ago when I fell during a parade with my high school band. My mom took me to the ER and I was diagnosed with a concussion. I had a CT scan and nothing was out of the ordinary, and it seemed to just be a mild concussion. 4 months later, I'm still having issues. I'm a junior in high school and concentration and memory issues made me switch out of all of my honors classes into regular ones and drop both math and science completely.
Avatar f tn I am by no means an expert, but I have heard plenty of stories of people with concussions having lasting effects. Did your son's doctor mention Post Concussion Syndrome? Perhaps your son's ability to absorb impacts to the head is compromised. Recent studies have shown that children who get multiple CT scans show higher rates of brain tumors later in life. The radiation from a CT scan is significant and should only be done when necessary, especially in children.
Avatar n tn Hi, I am an 18 year old male who is still suffering from the effects of multiple concussions in high school. I had one my junior year, which was not too serious, and the effects of it soon cleared up. However, the next year, I received a violent blow to the head (football again) in which my mouthpiece wasn't in correctly. I was wearing a revolution helmet, the supposedly concussion proof helmets, which cracked all the way down the side from where I got hit.
Avatar n tn It was probably a concussion. I have been knocked out while boxing as a teenager so the damage is not necessarily that bad, but don't make a habit of it. In a concussion, there is always brain swelling. There a window of opportunity to reduce the swelling. Action is ideally taken within the first four hours. After 24 hours, there isn't much to do after several days. All the damage than can be done has been done.
Avatar f tn Loss of consciousness isn’t required for a diagnosis of concussion or post concussion syndrome. Post concussion syndrome occurs within first 7 to 10 days and until 3 months. Symptoms are variable including dizziness, fatigue, irritability, anxiety, insomnia, loss of concentration and memory, light and noise sensitivity, headache varying from a tension type to cluster headaches. You need to consult a neurologist immediately.
Avatar f tn Had a concussion several weeks ago with instant headache & nausea which have gotten worse. Already had 2 CT scans without contrast, showing they were normal. The headaches and nausea are pretty bad daily, have gotten worse since the concussion. I'm now scheduled for an MRI scan, should I do it with or without contrast. Have read so many negative things about getting it with the contrast.
Avatar n tn I have read all the side effects but it is hard finding anything on the severe long term effects of taking this drug. Does anyone know a link or maybe some answers?
Avatar m tn I am not sure whether they increase only in frequency and duration rather than intensity, due to the long period of time. In any case, these are long-lasting sensations, not very intense, but lasting for hours at a time. They take place most often while I'm sitting down over a book, when I'm slouching, and when I'm wearing overly-tight pants. I am reasonably sure I have no symptoms during exercise. Sometimes, though rarely, the discomfort is accompanied by headaches.
Avatar f tn Is there such a thing as long term effects of interferon treatment? My treatment put me in remission(non-reactive), but I still have symptoms of extreme fatgue, muscle aches, depression with anxiety and GI problems. These all began with the treatment.
Avatar m tn t walking straight because I was dizzy. he said he was very sure I had a concussion and so he sent me to the ER for a ct scan. After the ct scan, the NP said although It didn't show a concussion I do have one and it showed sinusitis. Ive had sinusitis a few times before and it's never made me nauseated or that dizzy.
Avatar f tn I got a concussion 7 months ago after a 85lb metal door fell on me. I was diagnosed with post concussion disorder and i have constant migranes, memory losss, sensitivity to light and sount, nausea, and dizzyness, and i just recently have begun to have auditory hallucinations. Ive been seeing a neurologist but so far nothing is working for any of my symptoms, can anybody please recommend anything?
Avatar m tn My 16 year old son was in a car wreck 5 1/2 days ago where he suffered a grade 2 moderate concussion. He was knocked unconscious for a short period of time & received a scalp laceration to the right side of his head . The CT scan discovered what the neurosurgeon described as a small thread size bleed. Later that day another CT scan was done & all signs of bleeding were gone & the blood had been absorbed. His stay in the hospital was for 3 days.
Avatar n tn Until the effects from the concussion are better you should not be doing any kind of exercise. I would follow up with your Dr on your concussion sinc eit has been a month.
Avatar f tn 2 years ago, I had a coup-concoup concussion (I think that was how to spell it). Ever since then, I've had a never ending headache. It's even in my dreams. I also get migraines where my brain smacked the other side of my skull. Then last Christmas, I hit my head on my temple and got a minor concussion then. But there didn't seem to be any lasting remarks from that. Anyways, yesterday I plopped down on my bed and hit the back of my head on my windowsill.
12128836 tn?1423574148 But I do need to tell you that lots of people experience long lasting symptoms like tiredness and migraines after suffering concussions. Think of a soldier who gets a RPG explosion near him and afterwards vomits and has severe headaches and states of confusion and these symptoms can last on and off for years. No ct scans or blood tests will show anything wrong but still, is he well? Multiple concussions are considered dangerous.
Avatar f tn My 12 year old son, Ben, suffered a concussion in April 2008 when he was hit with a line drive hardball in his left eye while playing baseball. The impact of the ball caused the concussion, and the shape of his pupil is now oval. I took him to a pediatric opthamologist who did a thorough exam. He said there is no lasting damage other than the shape of the pupil, but he needed glasses.
Avatar f tn I have ADHD and was diagnosed when I was a child. I have been medicated for a long time (was on Ritalin for a very long time but had to switch medications within the past few years because Ritalin stopped working for me). I have been on vyvance for a while now and it was doing fine for me. I am in college now, and last semester (spring 2014 semester) I got a concussion.
Avatar f tn My 15 year old daughter has been having "episodes" of dilated pupils, lasting hours at a time, and short episodes of blurry vision, lasting only a few minutes, and also short episodes of very sharp head pain, again, lasting only a few minutes. She does not use drugs at all, and she is very active in Color Guard - so may get hit in the head occasionally - but denies a recent injury. She saw an eye doctor, all checked out ok, they said no swelling of the optic nerve.
