Concussion in the brain

Common Questions and Answers about Concussion in the brain

concussion

Avatar f tn However, yes, MRI should be done to rule out brain injury as the cause. Stress due to concussion and brain injury can also be the cause. Also get your blood pressure checked. Take care!
Avatar n tn Circling can indicate a stroke, and since there was a head injury, it could mean there is bleeding somewhere in the brain or a bloodclot as a result of the injury that caused the concussion. Chances are, in a very young dog like this, as long as the problem is caught and managed there will be no serious permanent damage, but the circling at this stage of the game is definitely cause for concern. Please let us know what the vet says.
Avatar f tn It is abundantly clear that in some cases concussions may result in seizures. That is not a "theory". It is a medical fact. It doesn't require "discussion". But not all concussions result in a seizure. There can be varying degrees of damage depending on the severity off the blow, where the impact takes place, and from resultant swelling, and if there is a delay in seeking medical attention. A "concussion" is not a "concussion".
Avatar f tn Closed injury means you received a hard blow to head from striking an object, but the object didn’t break the skull. These include, concussion which is the commonest traumatic brain injury, contusion is a bruise on brain and skull fractures. The head may appear fine but complications could arise from bleeding or swelling inside the skull. The spine also needs to be examined. Consult a neurologist urgently and get a neurological assessment done including MRI spine and head.
Avatar f tn how hard would u have to be hit to have brain damage or a concusion,,,,has anyone else been hit in the head its kinda at the top of my head on the left side,,he has never hit me before and he has just been so stresed because of my menetal issues i have had this past year...
Avatar m tn A doctor generally looks for focal neurological or generalized neurological symptoms that would show there is a pressure on brain somewhere. In absence of these symptoms and based on the history a diagnosis of concussion is given. If concussion is severe, and there is underlying brain injury, then yes, even death can occur. Hope this helps! Take care!
Avatar f tn re now several years after the fact and the same area that was tender immediately following the concussion is STILL tender to the touch, with various other symptoms present. I will be going in for additional imaging in the coming weeks, but my question is, is this normal? Is it a sign of something more serious, like a brain tumor? Can concussions even cause brain tumors? Thanks for any and all help. I'm just nervous for the imaging and possible findings, so seeking input here.
Avatar f tn Sounds like you might have a concussion. A concussion is a mild brain injury caused by a knock or blow to the head or a sudden change in motion. See a doctor just in case.
Avatar n tn The nerves that control the muscles, that in turn controls finger movements are located in the forearm and not in the palm area. So as long as the tendons of the muscles are not severed, finger movement may be preserved. Your concussion may have caused some damage in your cerebellum. This is the part of the brain that is responsible for coordination and fine muscle control. Regards.
Avatar n tn my daughter got hit in the head about an hour ago and the knot did not come out it went in ward should I be concerned?
12128836 tn?1423574148 In emergency medicine a concussion in itself is not very dangerous. But a hard hit to the head can also cause a bleeding in the brain which is extremely dangerous and often fatal. Most times you just get a concussion and no brain bleeding. An extreme hit like from a car crash can cause the brain to swell and the pressure in the skull to increase which will lead to brain damage, maybe coma and possibly death. This is also unlikely.
1287446 tn?1313947638 t suffer from any symptoms so which means other parts of brain took over. Brain is so unpredictable and some times people with mild concussion suffer from disabling symptoms for long time and some time people with severe brain injury get back to normal life within months. So you are going to be fine and nothing to worry about.
Avatar f tn I am not sure anyone will be able to answer accurately since a concussion is a jarring to the brain and what happens physically in/on the brain no one knows.
Avatar m tn I’m a 19 year old 5’11 140 pound Caucasian male with post concussion syndrome from a life of contact sports and also an anxiety disorder Well this is likely the end of my life, something truly tragic has happened. Was walking down the street, bent down to throw something in the trash, lifted my body back up and smashed my head under a street sign. It made a huge sound and a woman passing by even said a loud ‘oof’ Which basically confirms the severity of the impact.
Avatar m tn I have noticed that I experience fatiguability when running around or participating in physical activity in the cold.. can anybody help me or hint what I may be experiencing?!?
Avatar n tn The other day in pe my friend was hit very hard over the head with a hockey stick. She lay unconscious on the floor for a couple of minutes and then whenever anyone tried to talk to her she just couldnt keep eye contact with them and looked very confussed. She then attempted to vomit unsuccesfully many times before fading in and out of concsiousness. Is that concussion or is it more serious??
Avatar f tn EDH is a collection of blood which occurs below the skull but above the thick leathery cover of the brain itself known as the Dura. This area of the brain is basically fluid and is a shock absorber for the brain. However, there are veins that feed and drain the brain which move through this area and when they are torn an epidural bleed can occur.
Avatar f tn You should be referred to a neurosurgeon at a hospital in a university setting, get a new MRI of the brain, and let him decide what happened to you, and offer treatment of some kind, to include poss surgery, physical therapy, and medication. And as with any brain injury, recovery is measured in degrees rather than cure. But I don't like the sound of you getting worse, so that's why I say see a top doc.
Avatar m tn Think about what happens when you shake a child... the brain rattles inside and hits the skull - causing brain damage. you may have bruised your brain a little (a concussion) when you plopped down that way... Just have someone talk to you in the morning - to ask you questions.... it would be up to them to determine how badly you are hurt. We took my grandson to the ER a day after he fell and hit his head. They did a CT scan because he had a seizure.
Avatar n tn The major issue with hits to the head and concussion is sometimes the person dosent even know they blacked out so could be just a milli second and no one notices, but thats where the neuro paths got displaced and the brain would have done like a mini reset. Sorry to alarm you but i know children miss diagnosed with anger issues or adhd only to find a brain bleed from an old knock to the head, please just be aware but not paranoid and simply seek a GPs advice or book into a concussion clinic.
Avatar f tn You need to consult a neurologist as soon as possible or go to an emergency room and get evaluated for head injury and concussion. You may also need a MRI of the brain. The headaches could just be due to the hit, or due to tight stitch or even due to infection under the stitch. Hence you need a complete evaluation. Take care!
Avatar m tn It impacts the liver, kidneys, every body part .... and yes, the brain of course. Concussion is when some action causes the brain itself to move and impact the inside of the skull. It can be a passive injury that causes no more than a headache ... or it can be very much worse by affecting motor skills and pupil dialation, even speech patterns. Concussion may appear like intoxication but any good doctor would be able to know the difference by just doing a blood test!
Avatar f tn I had a mild concussion and went to a doctor, who gave me a CT scan that came back negative, meaning everything in my brain looked fine. Two weeks after the concussion I mastrubated, and I was worried that it could've worsened the condition of my concussion or even caused a chronic subdural hematoma, just because I know you're supposed to take it easy after a concussion and orgasm raises your BP and all. Most of my symptoms of the concussion have gone away, aside from double vision.
Avatar f tn post concussion syndrome is a complex disorder with a combination of symptoms like headaches and dizziness lasting for a few weeks and at times months after the injury that caused by concussion. Concussion is a mild traumatic brain injury usually occurring after a blow to the head. Loss of consciousness isn’t required for a diagnosis of concussion or post concussion syndrome. Post concussion syndrome occurs within first 7 to 10 days and until 3 months.
Avatar n tn How are you feeling now? Have you seen a doctor about this? It almost sounds like you may have gotten a concussion besides injuring your shoulder. Because of the headaches, difficultly with memory, trouble concentrating, nausea, feeling "fuzzy," sleep changes, visual changes, I suggest you get checked out by a doctor, preferably a neurologist if you can...otherwise your PCP.
Avatar f tn A doctor generally looks for focal neurological or generalized neurological symptoms that would show there is a pressure on brain somewhere. In absence of these symptoms and based on the history a diagnosis of concussion is given. Suicidal thoughts can also be due to damage to the frontal lobe. This can also cause mood swings. Hence please get this assessed by a neurologist. A MRI of the brain should be done. Take care!
