Common Questions and Answers about Concussion in medical terms

concussion

Avatar f tn It is abundantly clear that in some cases concussions may result in seizures. That is not a "theory". It is a medical fact. It doesn't require "discussion". But not all concussions result in a seizure. There can be varying degrees of damage depending on the severity off the blow, where the impact takes place, and from resultant swelling, and if there is a delay in seeking medical attention. A "concussion" is not a "concussion".
Avatar f tn s complaint...This is very hard to explain in terms of symptoms. I feel like there are no words to describe it. It is NOT pain. I can only describe it as a feeling of fullness, maybe pressure, or a little flutter. There does not seem to be any apparent trigger. I work very hard sometimes and that doesn't seem to be the cause. It just starts up and after a few minutes fades away. It concerns me because my 72 year old mother just had a two stents put in her coronary arteries...
1914334 tn?1322285939 A concussion can range from mild to critical in terms of severity. Concussion can result in a temporary loss of consciousness or coma, loss of memory, or symptoms may not appear for some time after the initial trauma. Even a mild concussion can result in subtle brain damage. I am sure that your doctor has made exhaustive analysis to diagnose the impact and your current situation.

Avatar f tn Hi, Hydrocephalus is a term which literally means water in the brain. In medical terms it implies abnormal accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid in the brain. Hydrocephalus is usually due to blockage of outflow of CSF from the ventricles leading to enlargement of the ventricles. There are many causes of hydrocephalus like infections, congenital anomalies, brain trauma, tumors and hemorrhage.
Avatar f tn The relatively new set of definitions is explained in the following article (and YES it does reference only medical associations in the U.S.) but the idea is clear, that it is better for the baby not to push an earlier delivery if given a choice. "In light of recent research showing that each week of gestation affects newborn health, a leading doctors' group is redefining when a pregnancy is considered "term.
Avatar m tn A doctor generally looks for focal neurological or generalized neurological symptoms that would show there is a pressure on brain somewhere. In absence of these symptoms and based on the history a diagnosis of concussion is given. If concussion is severe, and there is underlying brain injury, then yes, even death can occur. Hope this helps! Take care!
Avatar f tn These are options for this kind of thing and sooner is better than later in terms of working on it.
Avatar f tn That is not due to concussion. You should be seen by an Eye MD ophthalmologist for a medical eye exam.
Avatar m tn I went to a basketball game in Scotland about 4 days ago and I got hit in the back of the head really hard. I felt a bit dizzy and sick afterwards. Now my head is starting to hurt and my vision is a bit blurry. Could I be concussed?
Avatar n tn who has been suffering from Post Traumatic Concussion for more than 3 months. He has returned to teaching in November, but still suffers daily from headaches, sometimes dizziness, and certainly drained & tired by the end of the day. We have paid for absolute full medical testing to be sure there are no other underlying causes, and so far, nothing has come up. He also had a CTScan which also came up OK. However, about 8 days ago he developed an unvoluntary head "jerking".
Avatar f tn Ok so I have had close to the whole chart in symptoms of a concussion 7 months post impact. I was recovering at a fairly normal pace until about 3/4 weeks into recovery when pain worse than when I had the initial headache from trauma. Keep in mind at that point I was a healthy 15 year old boy that was extremely active. Well anyway the pain that had returned from nowhere was increasing gradually for about one and a half months until the pain was so intense I had to go to the ER at 1am.
Avatar m tn Hi, it happened to my wife recently too. Did your wife see doctor later and how was the result?
516147 tn?1211533610 I asked for a copy of the results but the language within is beyond my knowledge. I am posting this in hopes that someone with more knowledge in this field could translate it into layman terms for me. The results are as follows: (Procedure: Ultrasound, pelvis. Transabdominal and endovaginal sonographic evaluation of the pelvis performed. Findings: The uterus measures 1.2 x 5.5 x 6.7 cm. The myometrium is homogeneous in echotexture.
Avatar m tn Hi there, i'm not sure if you realise your post has landed in the MS community, post concussion symptoms are not uncommon, i would highly recommend you seek medical advice with what you've been experiencing in the months since your head injury happened........
Avatar m tn I forgot to ask whether it is possible to be certain through Medical Imaging, specifically Diffusion Tensor Imaging or an EEG because I remember reading that in the former (according to some studies at least) white matter abnormalities were visible while in the latter (again according to a study) the EEGs of concussed patients were different than controls.
Avatar f tn Apparently this incident was never investigated, because several years later, when I was in ICU in the hospital, unconscious for several days, that same RN was assigned to me. My husband did not recognize her. When I started coming around, my mental state was not so I could recognize her either, or defend myself. I was there for acute hypercalcemia. She asked me if I knew what had happened to me, and I told her no.
Avatar f tn I have begged him to go back to a doctor to get his concussion checked out but he refuses. Does it sound like he needs to seek medical help for the concussion considering he never received any after-care and continued to drink on the concussion? Its been about 10 months since this happened so it is likely that he could still be suffering from the after affects of the concussion? Thank you for your time.
Avatar f tn I`ve suffered from three concussion over the spand of a few months. The first two within week of each other and 2 months after a third. The last one was in August. Since then I have been very cautious to not hit my head but lets face it it`s nearly impossible. Kids will soft balls around and balls outside. They will flail their arms and hit your head or just nick you. Someone will bump into you and make you fall back. YOu will pull on something and it will make you jolt.
