Common Questions and Answers about Concussion in gymnastics

concussion

Avatar f tn Yesterday, at gymnastics practice, i fell and hit the back of my head off of the floor. This floor was kinda soft, but it still hurt when I hit my head. My head hurt for a few minutes after that, but then the pain mostly went away. I kept practicing and I still felt pretty good, just a very slight head pain. Today, I was volunteering for something and I had to stand up for hours with only a few breaks, and I got a small pain in my head/eyes and I slept for a few hours afterwards.
Avatar m tn constant headaches, more extreme when she plays lacrosse and does her gymnastics. She is very athletic and is going to be very sad if she needs to stop all of her sports.
Avatar m tn 3 years is a long time for break in Gymnastics. If you can understand that with increasing age the flexibility decreases and you can regain that with much practice and concentration. You need to strengthen your feet with proper exercise and control over a period of time, we are sure you can do better than what you are doing now and under a good trainer. Take care!
Avatar f tn 00pm-9:00pm but Saturdays are from 1:00pm-4:00pm. We run 15 minutes in the beginning of every practice and do a lot of conditioning. But I have been arriving a little late because of school. (its an 1 hr drive from my house to practice) and I am not losing as much weight as i used to. What are some things I could do to lose more weight? And also what are some ideas I could do to gain stamina, besides running? Thank you for your help!
Avatar n tn one week after concussion my 14 week malteese turns in circles all day what can this be.
Avatar f tn It is abundantly clear that in some cases concussions may result in seizures. That is not a "theory". It is a medical fact. It doesn't require "discussion". But not all concussions result in a seizure. There can be varying degrees of damage depending on the severity off the blow, where the impact takes place, and from resultant swelling, and if there is a delay in seeking medical attention. A "concussion" is not a "concussion".
Avatar f tn I am a concussion survivor. Could you get a concussion if your head stops suddenly from a fast movement? Yesterday I was in a hurry and running and pushed the door in front of me. It stopped abruptly which caused my body to stop too. Could this cause a concussion? I'm scared because I am recovering from a concussion already. Does it make me more prone to brain injury? Please, help me!
Avatar f tn Sounds like you might have a concussion. A concussion is a mild brain injury caused by a knock or blow to the head or a sudden change in motion. See a doctor just in case.
Avatar n tn My four year old has been in gymnastics for the past two years. She started with a parent-tot class on Saturdays with my husband, and eventually graduated to a three-year old class she participated in by herself. Now that she has reached four, however, she is refusing to participate. I took her every week during the school year and she fully immersed herself in the class. Now that it is summer, my husband takes her on Saturday and she absolutely refuses to participate.
Avatar n tn https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/post-concussion-syndrome/symptoms-causes/syc-20353352 Make sure to tell the doctor about all of the workouts you're doing, to make sure you're not perpetuating the problem by doing a specific exercise. Hope you start to improve!
Avatar f tn s a stretch I do a lot in dance or gymnastics. Everytime I do it o get a shooting pain as I roll my foot only in a certain spot. That's the only time I get it. Should I be worried that something is there?

Avatar f tn If the tsh is elevated and the free T4 is low this is considered hypothyroidism, a 5.3 is really normal in some labs and a little elevated in some. I would consider repeating the level and including a tsh and free T4 to compare. Then discuss all the other important reasons she may have had rapid weight gain. Is she drinking juice-if so stop it completely and have her eat her fruit instead, this includes juice boxes.
175734 tn?1225134440 I like gymnastics and synchronized diving. Table Tennis is another amazing sport to watch at the Olympic level.
Avatar n tn My 4 year old daughter is very talented at gymnastics, particularly for her age. She also is very focused and well behaved, like a much older child. Occasionally however, and out of the blue, she will clown around for the entire class. A couple times she refused to participate at all. Then the next week she will be fine again. I'm uncertain how to react to these sudden changes in behavior since I can not figure out what is wrong.
Avatar f tn As a a positive side effect, I have also noticed that things seem to be moving in slow motion some times. In other words, I see things much quicker and my reflexes have improved. Is this normal ?
Avatar m tn A doctor generally looks for focal neurological or generalized neurological symptoms that would show there is a pressure on brain somewhere. In absence of these symptoms and based on the history a diagnosis of concussion is given. If concussion is severe, and there is underlying brain injury, then yes, even death can occur. Hope this helps! Take care!
Avatar f tn Ok, so I am 13 and came home from gymnastics a little while ago and had to go to the bathroom. When I pulled down my pants I saw this blackish-brownish yhick dried substance in my underwear. I've had discharge for awhile now but never black. Could this be my first period and if it is, when should I expect real blood??
Avatar m tn My doctor said the same thing, it was do to the concussion and that I would be fine. I read in one of your post that your daughter was said to have Post-Concussion Syndrome after a head injury. I do not know how long ago that was but if you looked up what the doctor was talking about like I do when my kids health is involved. You might of seen that the syndrome can sometimes last over a year in some cases. As for epilepsy, I have it.
Avatar f tn My daughter was an highly competitive gymnast for the last 3 years (but has done gymnastics since she was 3). I also coached in the gym. Recently (about a month ago) she quit. It was a family decision due to issues at the gym. She has told me how happy she is with her life now. We (my husband and I) thought things were good.
Avatar n tn I have a serious concussion and I have strained my trapiuses muscle... I also have osgood schlatters in one leg and I can't run with out getting dizzy due to the concussion... I really need to work out ... I have been out for a month ... Please and thank you !
Avatar m tn I was involve in a very bad car accident 02/10 and have no memory of the actual wreck. the hospital deemed I have a severe concussion and then also diagnosed me with Post Concussion Syndrome. I am currently also experiencing back and neck problems as well as getting a collarbone checked out for a possible fracture. My question is does coffee effect concussion and PCS recovery. And how long does recovery generally take.
Avatar f tn Loss of consciousness isn’t required for a diagnosis of concussion or post concussion syndrome. Post concussion syndrome occurs within first 7 to 10 days and until 3 months. Symptoms are variable including dizziness, fatigue, irritability, anxiety, insomnia, loss of concentration and memory, light and noise sensitivity, headache varying from a tension type to cluster headaches. You need to consult a neurologist immediately.
