Avatar m tn Are you an athlete? What lead to these concussions?
Avatar m tn now i have been diagnosed with post concussion syndrome.is it possible for this to happen and how long will it last.
Avatar f tn I am curious to learn more about post concussion syndrome. In the past 4-5 years I have had 4 or 5 "mild" concussions and am starting to get worried. I received all of these from sports and have since pulled myself from such dangerous situations but I fear I am still dealing with the after effects of my reckless youth. After my last concussion I had extremely bad vertigo, memory loss, and headaches.
Avatar m tn He got a mild concussion in football and was out of the game for 2 weeks (this really made him nervous as his cousin had a severe concussion with lasting brain damage), soon after he healed from the concussion he got swine flu and was out of school the better part of two weeks, shortly after a return to health he got Mono and strep throat (he wasn't fatigued, but had a severe sore throat, pains, and difficulty swallowing). Now he gets scared at school.
Avatar m tn If you're an athlete with post-concussion syndrome, you may have heard about Sidney Crosby and his experiences. He went to the Carrick Institute. If you can't go see them (I don't know where you are located), maybe you can find a doctor on their find a doctor list - https://acnb.org/DoctorLocator.aspx It's hard to say if this was a setback, or something more. Are you seeing a neurologist? You mention a doctor, but didn't specify. Hang in there.
Avatar m tn Adderall has been very beneficial, as I had poor grades, was hyper active, etc. a week into taking the meds, a friend introdced me to cigarettes. Within a weeks time I was hooked, smoking nearly a pack of cigarettes a day. My dad, who is a smoker, forbid me to smoke. For what ever reason I fought him with a vengence, and won. He allowed me to smoke, even in the house. Today I look and feel like an Oxy- moron, I work out daily, look like the pic. of health, and smoke on the way to the gym.
Avatar f tn I have a 13yo son who has admitted to sniffing markers off/on x 3years. I am worried that he may have suffered permanent damage--- he has mood swings, behavioral issues at school, poor grades, and often angry. Not sure how much of this is "normal teenage", side effects from previous use or maybe is still sniffing?? Is there any type of test I can do? I am worried if I take him to his pediatrician, will she report this to CPS or the police? Help!
Avatar f tn Hi. I'm a 15 year old high school athlete who plays volleyball, basketball, and softball. unfortunately those things tend to cause injuries and my parents dont like to take me to the doctor cuz of money reasons. well recently during my basketball season i got sort of headbutted by another girl durin a game (on the left side of my forehead and it left a bump and a not too norticeable yellowish bruise) and then hit again by the basketball being thrown like a baseball a few minutes later.

Avatar f tn As an athlete I have a lot of pressure and responsibility on me to perform well both on the field and in school. When I came in freshman year it was 24/7 all soccer I didn’t talk to anybody besides the other girls on my team or other athletes. Because we didn’t have time to socialize between our practicing, weight lifting, school and our travel schedule, and my lack of performing well on the field I started to break down. So my coach sent me to see a sports therapist.
Avatar m tn no signs of showing or anything but our son is healthy as a horse. i am like the poster child of my family, good college kid, good grades, star athlete etc, but i dont know how to tell my parents. i know im grown & everything but idk how to tell my family. any ideas?
Avatar m tn bumped my head against the steel roof of the vehicle I rode when we went through a bumpy road. The hit was so loud, I got dizzy and felt nauseous. I went to the doctor complaining that the bump was affecting my focus. It makes me feel tired even if I got a full night's sleep. He said it's nothing, and will heal after a few weeks. The feeling was like I have something put on top of my head- something "heavy".
Avatar f tn He IS and has always been a very good athlete, playing football and basketball in high school and college. I assume that is due to the fast-pace of those sports. However, I am beginning to wonder if the Vyvanse is working on the problem. The doctor said that he has to get him on the right dosage and has been changing the strength. The problem is, I am wondering if this is the drug he should be on. I don't know what to do.
Avatar f tn My son is 9 years old and just started the 4th grade in August. He started off the school year doing just fine, getting A's and B's. Then all of a sudden he got a D on a paper. We went over his mistakes and I told him that it happens to everyone once in a while. About a week later, he got another D on a paper. I told him that he can't make a habit of this and that 4th grade is going to be harder than 3rd and just to continue to do his best.

Avatar m tn I was involve in a very bad car accident 02/10 and have no memory of the actual wreck. the hospital deemed I have a severe concussion and then also diagnosed me with Post Concussion Syndrome. I am currently also experiencing back and neck problems as well as getting a collarbone checked out for a possible fracture. My question is does coffee effect concussion and PCS recovery. And how long does recovery generally take.
Avatar f tn I am suppose to be a college athlete but first day of "practice" we were squatting and I was doing lighter weight then I normally use but higher reps... doing 10 sets of 10...

Avatar f tn Loss of consciousness isn’t required for a diagnosis of concussion or post concussion syndrome. Post concussion syndrome occurs within first 7 to 10 days and until 3 months. Symptoms are variable including dizziness, fatigue, irritability, anxiety, insomnia, loss of concentration and memory, light and noise sensitivity, headache varying from a tension type to cluster headaches. You need to consult a neurologist immediately.
Avatar f tn I am a concussion survivor. Could you get a concussion if your head stops suddenly from a fast movement? Yesterday I was in a hurry and running and pushed the door in front of me. It stopped abruptly which caused my body to stop too. Could this cause a concussion? I'm scared because I am recovering from a concussion already. Does it make me more prone to brain injury? Please, help me!
1810335 tn?1318384373 Hi, I got hit in the face with a soccer ball really hard, and afterwards i couldn't see for a couple of seconds Ive been dizzy almost all day, and I've had a head ache all day as well. Couple of my friends said that i might have had a concussion. Can anyone tell me what happened? I've never had this happen to me before. and if I did have a concussion, what should I do? :( This discussion is related to concussion.
Avatar f tn I got a concussion about 3 months ago at a cheer competition when a girl fell and elbowed me in the face. I didn’t get knocked unconscious but I blacked out for 3 or 4 seconds. Immediately after my performance I went to the athletic trainer who performed an assessment and asked what my symptoms were. Immediately I had a headache, I saw halos around lights, and I felt like I was in a dream state.
Avatar m tn m a volunteer EMT. In Jan 2008, I got a concussion w/minor cut (stitches) and went to the ER. When they checked my vitals, I had a fast heart rate. They gave me a few bags of saline since they figured I was dehydrated, and discharged me (the tachy remained). I didn't care at the time since it was probably due to the head injury.
Avatar f tn Had a concussion several weeks ago with instant headache & nausea which have gotten worse. Already had 2 CT scans without contrast, showing they were normal. The headaches and nausea are pretty bad daily, have gotten worse since the concussion. I'm now scheduled for an MRI scan, should I do it with or without contrast. Have read so many negative things about getting it with the contrast.
Avatar f tn I had a metal iron shelf fall on my head at work 4 months ago, got a concussion and ended up with post traumatic concussion syndrome. He needs to go to the doctor!!!!! He needs to have a CT or MRI to check for headbleeding then he needs to see a neurologist and let them run test!!!!! It's so important. They told me if I hit my head again I'll have permanent damage.
Avatar f tn Ok so about 7-8 months ago I suffered a concussion and was off work for quite a time I am getting back to it now. My question is can suffering a concussion cause depression and suicidal thoughts as well as self harm? Basically when I was a teenager I was suicidal and a cutter and haven't done anything like that since, until I got the concussion and a few months into the treatment etc I started cutting again and feeling suicidal.
