Common Questions and Answers about Concussion form

concussion

Avatar f tn Post-concussion syndrome, is a set of symptoms that a person may experience for weeks, months, or occasionally years after a concussion, a mild form of traumatic brain injury. Symptoms may include headache, difficulty concentrating, irritability etc. Though there is no treatment for PCS itself, symptoms can be treated; medications and physical and behavioral therapy may be used, and patients can be educated about symptoms and their usual prognosis.
Avatar f tn Besides a broken ankle and severely injured knee, I suffered form a concussion as well. I only discovered the day after the accident ( after the nausea has taken a hike) that my smell and taste senses are limited. A weird, smokey, burned smell is stuck in my nose. I can taste salt and sugar, but no flavors. Doctors tell me it will heal in time. There is no treatment. But I pray to God that it will heal soon!!
Avatar n tn Hi, Yes this is concussion injury which is a mild form of brain injury. It is characterized by headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, photosensitivity, double vision and blurred vision. It is diagnosed by physical and neurological examination. Treatment is basically rest and monitoring. Take care!
Avatar m tn Another symptom was a mild headache when I was tired but I do not know whether this can be attributed to the hit or to me feeling overly anxious over a possible concussion. Do you think a concussion is a possibility? Any feedback would be very welcome!
Avatar f tn I got a concussion 7 months ago after a 85lb metal door fell on me. I was diagnosed with post concussion disorder and i have constant migranes, memory losss, sensitivity to light and sount, nausea, and dizzyness, and i just recently have begun to have auditory hallucinations. Ive been seeing a neurologist but so far nothing is working for any of my symptoms, can anybody please recommend anything?
Avatar f tn Though Asperger’s by it self will not prolong concussion, the diagnosis of concussion in Asperger’s is often overlooked and some other cause or the disease itself attributed to as a cause of symptoms post injury. Hence it is important to consult a neuro-psychiatrist. Hope this helps. Take care!
Avatar f tn Im an 18 year old, female. Since yesterday (Friday Jan. 3), I have had the worst headache I have ever had. On the left side of my head, there is shooting pains that will come and go every 10 minutes or sometimes longer. Usually lasting only 5 seconds or so. As for today, the headache has not went away. It is a little above my eye. Also, my left side of my neck is really stiff and sore. Half the time, my whole body hurts, and I feel really tired all the time.
Avatar f tn So a bit over a month ago, I got a pretty severe concussion and ended up in the hospital. I could constantly hear my brain whirring, and throwing up two times a day. I also messed up and partied too hard with the concussion andddon't know if I took anything or what it would've been , and everything was hazy for days.
Avatar n tn There are a couple of practical things emergency staff do when assessing the degree of head trauma a person has had following concussion - one is called GSC scale - where they ask a series of questions that reveal how orientated you are - goes up to 15. &/15 is severe, above 13 is mild and the middle scores are moderate. They usually do this asap after losing consciousness and then repeat it until you have no problems with the answers.
Avatar f tn I had a car wreck January 18th this year and was diagnosed with a concussion and severe whiplash. I had an MRI done February 22nd and got the results February 25th and they found a Syrinx in my thoracic spine from T6 to T9 with 4mm being greatest in diameter. Is this from the wreck and what should I do?
Avatar m tn Yes, a TBI can cause loss of taste and smell. This can be a part of concussion. If this is so, there is a chance of recovery once the effects of concussion wear off, which may take a few years at times. Also the loss of smell could be due to injury to the nose causing a blockage inside the nose. Hence an ENT consultation is a must to rule this out. The other possibility is injury to nerves or the center in the brain. Generally the taste goes away because of loss of smell.
Avatar m tn m not sure what to say about your concussion. But it does sound like you have some form of deression/anxiety... Talk to your parents about this, and a doctor. I first started meds when I was 12... I was a big hypochondriac then, still am.... Try to get it under control now. you are so young. I bet some of this stuff you are overthinking too as many hypochondriacs do... Not saying you are making this stuff up, but us hypos overthink little things the average joe wouldn't think twice about.
651681 tn?1384872629 My own daughter went into shock during that test. (she did have a serious form of cardiomyopathy at the time). Chances are that the concussion had nothing to do with this happening to your son. This is a heart blood pressure issue. A Cardiologist would be the person to see if you wanted this test done; they are in the room during the test. What your son is describing when everything is black along with spots is pre-syncope. It's what happens right before someone passes out.
Avatar m tn My concussion occurred 37 days ago when I slipped and fell backwards hitting the back of my head on a turf surface. In terms of the concussion recovery, I've been working with a concussion therapist to employ the practices of slowly getting back into activities without provoking symptoms. Unfortunately, I haven't seen much progress and may even have my symptoms come on earlier. I believe that this is related to sleep and neck issues that began about 18-20 days into the recovery.
Avatar m tn I was involve in a very bad car accident 02/10 and have no memory of the actual wreck. the hospital deemed I have a severe concussion and then also diagnosed me with Post Concussion Syndrome. I am currently also experiencing back and neck problems as well as getting a collarbone checked out for a possible fracture. My question is does coffee effect concussion and PCS recovery. And how long does recovery generally take.
Avatar f tn After getting an elbow to the jaw by my nephew (while 20weks pregnant) I became very anxious about concussions. Either because of hormones or a concussion... my anxiety went into overdrive. To help convince myself it wasn't a big deal, I kept hitting my jaw (like 5 knocks) in that same place with my knuckles throughout the day. Ridiculous I know. I did this for a couple of weeks-multiple times a day. I got a migraine with Aura and stopped.

Avatar f tn Loss of consciousness isn’t required for a diagnosis of concussion or post concussion syndrome. Post concussion syndrome occurs within first 7 to 10 days and until 3 months. Symptoms are variable including dizziness, fatigue, irritability, anxiety, insomnia, loss of concentration and memory, light and noise sensitivity, headache varying from a tension type to cluster headaches. You need to consult a neurologist immediately.
Avatar f tn I am a concussion survivor. Could you get a concussion if your head stops suddenly from a fast movement? Yesterday I was in a hurry and running and pushed the door in front of me. It stopped abruptly which caused my body to stop too. Could this cause a concussion? I'm scared because I am recovering from a concussion already. Does it make me more prone to brain injury? Please, help me!
1810335 tn?1318384373 Hi, I got hit in the face with a soccer ball really hard, and afterwards i couldn't see for a couple of seconds Ive been dizzy almost all day, and I've had a head ache all day as well. Couple of my friends said that i might have had a concussion. Can anyone tell me what happened? I've never had this happen to me before. and if I did have a concussion, what should I do? :( This discussion is related to concussion.
Avatar f tn I would definitely go to get an exam immediately . You could have a clot form inside your head, could have a bleed inside , or a concussion. So many things. If you vomit that's also a sign of something going on . I mean it's too tricky to know but a doctor would know. My brother had a closed head injury and the day after he went into a coma from a small bleed from a blood vessel that ruptured. They fixed it with surgery but he was in coma for a month..
Avatar m tn My migraines are now under much better control through medication, but the dizziness remains. I did not suffer a concussion during the accident, and my symptoms did not occur until around 4 months afterward. At this point, I’m considering whether the muscles and joints in my neck were injured in the accident, causing trigger points to form which have simply not be dealt with properly since that time.
