Concussion dilated pupils

Common Questions and Answers about Concussion dilated pupils

concussion

Avatar n tn m worried about her and am playing the waiting game to see how she fares thru the night, but now I just noticed her pupils are EXTREMELY dilated, regardless of light variation. Is this dilation a sign of fear, due to pain, or could it be something worse, like a kitty concussion? Or after reading other posts, rabies? (DOUBLE the dilation shown in the attached photo.
8506420 tn?1398432580 Your kitten obviously has a brain injury. A concussion would NOT cause unequal pupils. The unequal pupils are not a good sign. I am glad that your cat is acting normally, but after some time the cat can show more symptoms. That is what can happen with a head injury. Please take your kitten to the vet as soon as possible. Your vet needs to examine the cat and can give a steroid medication to cut down on brain swelling.
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with a mild concussion a little under a week ago. i am scheduled to have a full optometry exam (dilation of the pupils) done tomorrow. Is it ok to still have that exam done?
Avatar n tn Well big pupils don't cause behaviour problems (why do people call problems "issues"?) and behaviour problems don't cause big pupils. The pupils are larger in children and teenagers than any other time of life. (Smallest as infants and as very old). There is a big difference between having big pupils (that react normally) and having dilated pupils that don't react to light or attempts to focus. If the latter a visit to a neuro-ophthalmologist is in order.
Avatar f tn HBP will not cause dilated pupils. Pupils get big in the dark, when angry or excited, due to drops or some medications, during some types of migraines, with head trauma. See a ophthalmologist Eye MD to work through the causes. Find one at www.aao.
Avatar f tn My 15 year old daughter has been having "episodes" of dilated pupils, lasting hours at a time, and short episodes of blurry vision, lasting only a few minutes, and also short episodes of very sharp head pain, again, lasting only a few minutes. She does not use drugs at all, and she is very active in Color Guard - so may get hit in the head occasionally - but denies a recent injury. She saw an eye doctor, all checked out ok, they said no swelling of the optic nerve.
Avatar m tn Is the diagnosis similar between a concussion and intoxication? If so, in what ways? i.e., with the pupils, when doctor shines light in eyes, motor skills, etc. In what ways are they different? What if you have/are both at the same time? Can they be possibly confused or synonymous?
Avatar m tn My question comes on behalf of my younger brother, who recently sustained a head injury that was thought to be a concussion, though no official diagnosis was sought. About a week has passed since the incident and he has started to complain about minor headaches, a symptom that had him sent to his school nurse yesterday, who noticed a disparity in the size of his pupils as the right one was slightly larger than the left.
Avatar n tn Did your vet confirm that your cat's pupils are dilated? Sometimes it can seem like that, but cats' eyes are funny... So, assuming that they are chronically dilated - I assume she can see? You would have mentioned, blindness I guess! Are there any other symptoms that you have noticed? Was she checked for high blood pressure? Hypertension is not uncommon in cats and can cause dilated pupils. I don't suppose you feed her much raw fish?
Avatar n tn Hi I have recently been suffering from dilated pupil/s, sometimes its just one eye and I have recently experienced this in both eyes. I can always tell in advance when the pupils are dilated as I usually experience a kind of fuzziness although no blurred vision and no painful headache just a light headedness. This always seems to go hand in hand with a small nosebleed, again I can always tell that the nosebleed is coming too as there is a dense type of pressure build up.
572909 tn?1218268531 Hi, I have very dilated pupils normally. My eyesght is bascailly 20/1000 in each eye, and is corrected with lenses. Last night i woke from a deep sleep, and happened to look in the mirror( which i have to be nose to mirror to even see in) Both eyes, were extreely dialted when i looked, The most dialted i had ever seen them. I dont think i have checked out my eyes alot within seconds of waking so, dont know if this is normal.
Avatar f tn My daughter has got dilated pupils since birth, b'coz of that she can not open her eyes properly in sunlight and even when indoor she is studying or drawing, she doesn't open her eyes properly. Though she uses specs, she has to give strain on her eyes while studying. We have done her eye checkup from experts in our area. Each doc said it's a very rare condition and there is no cure for this. We can only wait and watch.
Avatar n tn How long should my pupils be dilated? I recently went to an eye exam on Thursday oct 9 and my doctor put a lot of drops to numb and dilate my eyes. since today my eyes are still dilated and I can barely walk outside because I can't see. she also said there was a very small cut on my cornea but that im okay and that i just need new glasses. tell me asap please. i'm kind of worried.
Avatar m tn Hes always been a very affectionate and loving cat. About 1 day ago we noticed that he had an upset stomach and dilated pupils. We took him to the vet and got him tested for leukaemia, thank God that came back as negative. A day later his pupils are still slightly dilated and he has a fever.
Avatar m tn My cat is FIV positive...several days ago one of his pupils became dilated..it looks twice as big as the other eye. I took him to the vet, she found nothing wrong, did lab work..then i saw your forum about FIV postive cat..How is FIV causing the diluted pupil..., he is in no pain..I'm sure it's not glaucoma..and it is not cataracts. he can see...
Avatar m tn If you have seen two ophthalmologists and all you have are widely dilated pupils that are otherwise normal you don’t have a problem. Pupils are bigger in adolescence and young adults, wider in blue eyes and myopic individuals. Big pupils are widely considered attractive and at times in the past women put dilute atropine drops in their eyes to make pupil big.
Avatar n tn Yes it does sound like a concussion. I would see your doctor right away or go to the ER to make sure there is no serious damage. They will probably do a CT scan or MRI.
Avatar f tn My 9 yr old cat suddenly has a difference in the size of his pupils. He is eating and acting ok so far. I have noticed alot of twitching in his tail when he is resting. Anyone else experienced this?
Avatar f tn It is possible that you did suffer a slight concussion, but I do not think you need to run out and go to a doctor. I would just take some basic over the counter pain meds for a couple of days and you should be fine. Now if you are feeling dizzy or notice that your pupils are 2 different sizes GO to a doctor. Also if you are just plain scared then by all means go see one.
Avatar n tn I do not agree with high blood pressure being a cause of dilated pupils. Head injuries could also be a cause of dilated pupils. Rabies also causes pupil changes as well. If you're seeing no other symptoms, then I'd do the wait and see thing. Check our Health Pages for some good tips located on this page, above Recent Activity.
Avatar f tn I went back to work following the accident and was seen in urgent care that night because my right shoulder was killing me so bad, nothing really wrong there. I went to work the following day and drove to urgent care due to me feeling really out of it, pupils were dilated, couldn't talk, and was just bad. Urgent Care sent me to the ER, but they said I was fine and sent me home. Thinking I was fine I went back to work not being able to see a Primary until almost a month later.
Avatar f tn It is a good sign that it is improving but it would probably be best to have a doctor check it out. This has some information that you could discuss with a doctor: http://www.mayoclinic.
Avatar f tn I first thought it was a problem with my contacts but when i looked at myself in the mirror I saw that my pupils were extremely dilated. It is now almost 10 pm and my pupils are still dilated!!! It doesnt change with more or less light and I am getting worried. This has never happened to me before and I was just wondering if this is a common thing. Should I be worried? Can you just wake up with dilated pupils? pleasee help!
Avatar n tn It might help, it might not. You just have to give it a try. One problem is that the very good lenses designed specifically just for this purpose are fairly expensive and there is usually no ability to take it back. So if you don't like it you would be out $150 or so. There is a surgeon in Cincinnatti named Robert Osher, MD who specializes in these type of cases and is able to do surgery or even prescribe cosmetic contact lenses.
Avatar m tn One time when I got up to turn off the lights, I looked in the mirror and noticed my pupils were super dilated. This happens every time I fall asleep with the lights on. Is this normal? What could be causing this?
Avatar f tn Be sure to protect your dilated pupils from sunlight (direct or reflected) with DARK sunglasses available (free) from your eyecare provider. The biggest risk of damage after your eyes are dilated is from too much light entering the eyes. Your pupils can't contract like they usually would in bright light, so protect them until they are back to normal. Regular sunglasses are NOT dark enough. During an eye exam the surface of your eyes may also be numbed with drops.
Avatar f tn Is anyone else experiencing insanely dilated pupils??? I'm finding it hard to look people in the eyes because my eyes look literally black. As a green eyed girl, it's super noticeable... Day five is here and i feel great, but I look in the mirror and see these huge pupils and it gives me anxiety... Anyone else get this? And if so, when does it stop??
