Common Questions and Answers about Concussion diagnosis

concussion

Avatar m tn Is the diagnosis similar between a concussion and intoxication? If so, in what ways? i.e., with the pupils, when doctor shines light in eyes, motor skills, etc. In what ways are they different? What if you have/are both at the same time? Can they be possibly confused or synonymous?
Avatar m tn A doctor generally looks for focal neurological or generalized neurological symptoms that would show there is a pressure on brain somewhere. In absence of these symptoms and based on the history a diagnosis of concussion is given. If concussion is severe, and there is underlying brain injury, then yes, even death can occur. Hope this helps! Take care!
Avatar f tn I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced severe light sensitivity this long after a concussion and what their diagnosis was or what they did to stop it.
Avatar f tn Loss of consciousness isn’t required for a diagnosis of concussion or post concussion syndrome. Post concussion syndrome occurs within first 7 to 10 days and until 3 months. Symptoms are variable including dizziness, fatigue, irritability, anxiety, insomnia, loss of concentration and memory, light and noise sensitivity, headache varying from a tension type to cluster headaches. You need to consult a neurologist immediately.
Avatar f tn Yesterday I suffered mild blow to the head. I have hit my head many times before, much harder than yesterday and yet, I've never experienced any symptoms that might be indicative of concussion. Yesterday, however, I felt a bit dizzy for a few minutes immediately after having been hit. Also, 15 minutes following the blow, I started to feel a bit nauseated.
Avatar f tn Ok so about 7-8 months ago I suffered a concussion and was off work for quite a time I am getting back to it now. My question is can suffering a concussion cause depression and suicidal thoughts as well as self harm? Basically when I was a teenager I was suicidal and a cutter and haven't done anything like that since, until I got the concussion and a few months into the treatment etc I started cutting again and feeling suicidal.
Avatar f tn How long is post concossive syndrome suppose to last, I was in an automobile accident 5 months ago and still suffering from this diagnosis according to my Neurologist. Is there anyone out there that has going thru this, I am read to be normal.
Avatar f tn Around 2 -3 years ago i got an mri so they could make sure i didn’t have optic nerve damage after a possible concussion. Results came back and said no nerve damage however i did have results “consistent with” a chiari malformation. i planned on being a firefighter and have never had any chiari symptoms to his day (almost 20 now) but i don’t want to cause symptoms from a strenuous job. I lift weights pretty much everyday and played hockey all my life neither have caused any symptoms.
16465326 tn?1448202692 The attending Physician said I checked out neurologically and did not order a CT scan of my brain. A concussion was her diagnosis. Since the fall I have had the following symptoms: 1. Whiplash as my sternocleidomastoid muscles in the front of my neck have seized up and are extremely sore. Especially bad in the morning upon waking until I get going through my day. 2. Extremely irritable as the smallest of things seem to enrage me. Not emblematic of my normal behavior..3.
Avatar f tn Probably you had a concussion and having Post Concussion effects. You can consult a Neuro-Otologist and Neurologist and see if you have any inner ear issues. Reason for dizziness can be very many. Get an MRI done to be safe.

Avatar n tn my son had similar head jerking after concussion 2 years ago. He also had another concussion recently w/ constant head pain. We tried chiro,PT(exercise+stretching), meds and he got worse. missed 1xmonth of school. I found a PT who combines cranial-sacral/soft tissue and other standard PT regimens(she had training for concussion injuries) and he improved w/ each visit.
Avatar f tn I had a very bad fall 2 weeks ago, hitting my head very, very hard on window sill. I had a CT & the diagnosis was a concussion but for the past 4 days I have the feeling I cannot get enough air & like I want to yawn but can't. Has anyone had this problem? It's only been since the concussion. No chest pain.
Avatar f tn In absence of these symptoms and based on the history a diagnosis of concussion is given. So, please get another neurological examination to rule out any other problem. Learning ways to memorize things and cope with concussion will help. Please ask your doctor about it. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you.
Avatar f tn Though Asperger’s by it self will not prolong concussion, the diagnosis of concussion in Asperger’s is often overlooked and some other cause or the disease itself attributed to as a cause of symptoms post injury. Hence it is important to consult a neuro-psychiatrist. Hope this helps. Take care!

Avatar n tn My daughter is 6 and is special needs, she took a tumble at school resulting in a concussion, she was diagnosis shortly there after with Amblyopia, could her fall cause this condition or is it just one of those things that happens ? Thank you !
Avatar f tn After getting hit on the head, you can certainly have a concussion. There are multiple grading scales for concussion. The American Academy of Neurology scale is graded on a scale of 1 to 3, where grade 3 has any loss of consciousness. Grade 2 is with any symptoms lasting more than 15 minutes. If there is any loss of consciousness or alteration in mentation or neurological deficit, labeling the injury as traumatic brain injury would also be appropriate.
Avatar m tn I'm in highschool and during soccer i got a concussion, the doctors said my brain was fine in a cat scan but ever since I have had chronic migraines and headaches for a year now. I saw a neurologist and am on amitriptyline and zolmitriptan. It has reduced my headaches from everyday to four times a week and my migraines from twice a week to once a month. i found that also pushing myself through physical exercise helps too. I still cannot attend school though and am homeschooled as a result.
Avatar f tn and was hit in the head from other team mates going for the ball,he was suppossably knocked out for at least 5 min or more, and when he came too no one was around and he didnt even know what had happen to him,he just remebers gettting up from off the ground, when my father went to pick him up from school he told me that my son was looking sorta gazed at him complaining that his head hurts bad and that he couldnt see good, now at the school function there was no adults around at no part of the prac
Avatar n tn I'm confused. You said you were diagnosed with a concussion. That would mean you saw a neurologist or another specialist in order to get that diagnosis. If it's a concussion, the effects just don't go away just like that, they linger. So is it a diagnosed concussion by a specialist? Have you had a CAT scan? I mean, a regular PCP can't really diagnose a concussion.
Avatar f tn Hi I am sixteen and was just diagnosed with chiari after receiving a concussion. After lifting a chair, I started shaking all throughout my body and it became hard to walk. It's almost three days since that happened and my hands are still shaking. This has happened once before but went away that day. Im not sure as to what this means and I can't tell if it is anxiety or chiari progression. Advice would be appreciated greatly!
Avatar f tn Postconcussion syndrome symptoms are common during the week after brain injury and often resolve the succeeding weeks. Diagnosis of a concussion is through direct evaluation b y your doctor and imaging studies such as CT scan and MRI. If there is no structural brain damage, only the symptoms warrant medical treatment. Check with your doctor for proper evaluation. Treatment for postconcussion syndrome is based on the severity of the symptoms. Rest and close observation are important.
