concussion

12128836 tn?1423574148 The statement that "in emergency medicine a concussion is not very serious" is absurd and incorrect A concussion is due to a blow on the head. The brain moves and actually displaces. In all concussions there is swelling. The swelling in turn impinges on blood flow, which in turn causes necrosis (death) of brain cells. In general there is a window-of-opportunity to administer drugs to reduce the swelling. There can be damage without the presence of nausea or of unconsciousness.
Avatar m tn Unresolved within a limited window, such swelling can lead to the death of brain cells and parts of the brain such as the pituitary and hypothalamus. The time to death of the cells is referred to as the warm ischemic time. There is no evidence whatsoever that a concussion will make anyone smarter. There may or may not be a degradtion in your cognition, memory and reasoning. The human brain is very resilient.
Avatar n tn It sounds like you might. Get thee to a doc and make sure you don't end up w any worse effects,.
Avatar f tn i was at the wrong place, wrong time and 10 guys used my head as a soccer ball, i suffered a major concussion about 8 months ago, it took me about 3 to 4 weeks to recover. i had major dizzy spells and light headedness, to vomiting and trauma. after my recover everything went back to normal and i thank the man upstairs for fully recover.
Avatar f tn Post-traumatic vertigo, including Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) I sustained significant head injuries twice in the past, when I was involved in two horrific traffic accidents, both NDEs, where I escaped death by a... hairline! A miracle of sorts, than I'm still around ( quite healthy in every aspect also) to talk about it! I had post-traumatic vertigo the second time with dizziness & migraines, which lasted about 3 months and resolved on its own.
Avatar m tn the doctors called it a concussion just becasue they had no idea of what happened because it was all the symptoms of a seizure a stroke and a concussion combined.......her peroid is five days late now and im just wondering could this accident be causing this? Im positive just about thats she cant be pregnant but tell me what you think please....
Avatar m tn That is an impossible question to answer. With a concussion there is swelling, which impinges upon blood vessels, which may cause death of brain tissue. For decades they believed brain tissue would not regenerate, however recent research suggests that brain tisue may regenerate. The likelyhood is you will recover, but this is not a certainty. Make sure to avoid future concussions. You need to have this well-documented.
Avatar n tn Nausea is definitive for a concussion. Take him to an emergency room IMMEDIATELY. If your daughter refuses call the police and 911. With hesitation. An argument is not worth your grandson's life. Some concussions resolve. Other's result in compression of blood vessels causing blindness, quadrapalegia or death.
Avatar f tn I’m trying not to be a hypochondriac but I’ve been reading about brain injuries, hemorrhages, and hematoma...needless to say I’m scared to death lol. But I don’t have the money to go to the doctors so I really won’t ever know if it’s serious.
Avatar m tn I was involve in a very bad car accident 02/10 and have no memory of the actual wreck. the hospital deemed I have a severe concussion and then also diagnosed me with Post Concussion Syndrome. I am currently also experiencing back and neck problems as well as getting a collarbone checked out for a possible fracture. My question is does coffee effect concussion and PCS recovery. And how long does recovery generally take.
Avatar n tn I have a serious concussion and I have strained my trapiuses muscle... I also have osgood schlatters in one leg and I can't run with out getting dizzy due to the concussion... I really need to work out ... I have been out for a month ... Please and thank you !
Avatar f tn Loss of consciousness isn’t required for a diagnosis of concussion or post concussion syndrome. Post concussion syndrome occurs within first 7 to 10 days and until 3 months. Symptoms are variable including dizziness, fatigue, irritability, anxiety, insomnia, loss of concentration and memory, light and noise sensitivity, headache varying from a tension type to cluster headaches. You need to consult a neurologist immediately.
Avatar f tn I am a concussion survivor. Could you get a concussion if your head stops suddenly from a fast movement? Yesterday I was in a hurry and running and pushed the door in front of me. It stopped abruptly which caused my body to stop too. Could this cause a concussion? I'm scared because I am recovering from a concussion already. Does it make me more prone to brain injury? Please, help me!

Avatar f tn I got a concussion about 3 months ago at a cheer competition when a girl fell and elbowed me in the face. I didn’t get knocked unconscious but I blacked out for 3 or 4 seconds. Immediately after my performance I went to the athletic trainer who performed an assessment and asked what my symptoms were. Immediately I had a headache, I saw halos around lights, and I felt like I was in a dream state.
Avatar f tn Had a concussion several weeks ago with instant headache & nausea which have gotten worse. Already had 2 CT scans without contrast, showing they were normal. The headaches and nausea are pretty bad daily, have gotten worse since the concussion. I'm now scheduled for an MRI scan, should I do it with or without contrast. Have read so many negative things about getting it with the contrast.
Avatar m tn I got two seven week old kittens the one I haven't names the other I named esctasy cause of how it acts. Esctasy got a sever concussion, when it happened she couldn't move, couldn't see, and started going to the bathroom nonstop. At first I thought she broke her neck or something of the sort. I got her to the vet within the hour and she lived through it. She's home today still with the concussion, but she's blind.
Avatar f tn I had a metal iron shelf fall on my head at work 4 months ago, got a concussion and ended up with post traumatic concussion syndrome. He needs to go to the doctor!!!!! He needs to have a CT or MRI to check for headbleeding then he needs to see a neurologist and let them run test!!!!! It's so important. They told me if I hit my head again I'll have permanent damage.
151462 tn?1359172276 Hi there. I have been "passing out" since I was 15 years old. When my adrenaline starts pumping everything is fine, but when my "calm down" reflex kicks in, it goes a bit too far. This causes my autonomic system to lower my blood pressure and heart rate, but instead of slowly dropping the two, I bottom out....and BAM unconcious...usually just for a minute or two...but it is impressive. Anyway...
Avatar f tn Ok so about 7-8 months ago I suffered a concussion and was off work for quite a time I am getting back to it now. My question is can suffering a concussion cause depression and suicidal thoughts as well as self harm? Basically when I was a teenager I was suicidal and a cutter and haven't done anything like that since, until I got the concussion and a few months into the treatment etc I started cutting again and feeling suicidal.
271792 tn?1334979657 Yes, I heard he hit his head and we laid down. Meaning that he may have had a concussion. His wife is feeling so guilty and my heart breaks for her. Remember Natashia Richards? Hope I am saying that right. Anyway, the same thing happened to her. Very sad..really, really sad. My heart goes out to all that are left behind.
Avatar f tn I have begged him to go back to a doctor to get his concussion checked out but he refuses. Does it sound like he needs to seek medical help for the concussion considering he never received any after-care and continued to drink on the concussion? Its been about 10 months since this happened so it is likely that he could still be suffering from the after affects of the concussion? Thank you for your time.
Avatar f tn It is abundantly clear that in some cases concussions may result in seizures. That is not a "theory". It is a medical fact. It doesn't require "discussion". But not all concussions result in a seizure. There can be varying degrees of damage depending on the severity off the blow, where the impact takes place, and from resultant swelling, and if there is a delay in seeking medical attention. A "concussion" is not a "concussion".
