Common Questions and Answers about Concussion and vertigo

concussion

Avatar f tn I received all of these from sports and have since pulled myself from such dangerous situations but I fear I am still dealing with the after effects of my reckless youth. After my last concussion I had extremely bad vertigo, memory loss, and headaches. They got so bad I had to get a Cat Scan because they thought my brain might be bleeding, thank god it was negative. Well I recently got in a car accident and have no clue if I did hit my head or not.
Avatar f tn It is highly likely that the reason you are feeling dizzy is related to hitting your head and is likely to be concussion. This can persist for some time and can take a few weeks to settle. Take things slow and easy and rest. You are doing the right thing in seeing your doctor to discuss your concerns.
Avatar f tn does a hit in the head followed by nausea, vertigo headache and diarrhea after 24 hours need to be examined and how serious it can be?
Avatar n tn And is it possible to just wake up one day like this? With extreme vertigo and dizziness? It is totally fine somedays and really bad others, but I just woke up one morning and had this issue. How does that happen?
4403156 tn?1354189853 Started feeling mildly nauseated and off-balance, light-headed, and foggy in April. Tinnitus at bedtime, when everything was quiet. I also felt my left ear 'draining' at times, like there was water in my ear, but there was no fluid in my ear. Exercise, even taking a walk, made me feel sick. I also experienced some vertigo.
Avatar m tn One of the symptoms that made me go to doctor in the first place was a vertigo type symptom, dizziness and brain fog. I am wondering if another issue I have is related and would also be caused by my thyroid. About nine months ago I was sparring (martial arts) and got kicked in the face. It wasn't hard, but enough to knock my head back a bit, but certainly not enough to knock me out. After a few seconds I started getting blurred vision and then a flash of images began passing before me.
Avatar n tn On day-1, I had a mild headache and some lightheadedness. On day-2, for a few hours the headache and lightheadedness (not vertigo) continued. I also had some numbness of Lt leg and weakness of Rt. hand for few hours that spontaneously resolved. After 28 hours, I was completely symptom free. Due to insurance issues and also since at that time I did not feel that my injury was serious, I did not get a formal evaluation or a CT scan done.
Avatar f tn I got a lump on back of my head after injury..that part is still tender and gives me pain and nausea so my dr. recommends me to get MRI of my head..but I think that will also go along with rest of the symtoms..what do u suggest?
246236 tn?1275478902 What made my vertigo disabling was the severe fatigue, the difficulting reading, The cognitive problems that are common with severe, and chronic vertigo and, then, eventually realizing that I couldn't think fast enough in an emergency. In the first year also I had many falls and several admissions to the ICU with concussion. I mean that it feels like the floor tilts and never goes back. Then over about a minute I get used to the new "downward direction.
Avatar m tn I have had benign positional vertigo for 3 1/2 years since a fall and concussion including unconsciousness and mild cervical spine damage in that if I bend my head forward down two disks touch and there is some increased pain in arms/hands but no serious compression of the spinal cord.
1456881 tn?1285458554 This loss of vision in the peripheral visual field can be due to optic nerve damage caused by glaucoma, high internal eye pressure, retinal detachment, occlusion of blood supply as in eye stroke, optic neuritis, and optic nerve edema. Tunnel vision is also possible after a history of head injury, concussion, brain damage and stroke, though all these causes may not be applicable in your case.
Avatar f tn Am I out of the woods of fearing of a brain bleed? I’m hoping this was just a concussion and that my head will heal completely with no long term, permanent complications. I have been talking with a nurse practitioner that focused in neurology because I can’t get into the doctor right yet. She said she doesn’t seem too worried about it, but keep monitoring for another 1.5 weeks or so. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
Avatar n tn I ended up getting an MRI which came back normal and was told that I had post concussive syndrome. My nausea got worse and worse and I ended up seeing a GI and getting an endoscopy and checking my gall bladder. Both were ok. At one point I went to the ER with chest pains, and they said it was acid reflux (although later another doctor told me it was more likely a pulled muscle).
Avatar m tn For the last nine years, I have suffered from neurological symptoms following an automobile accident. The primary issues I have are with migraine headaches and a constant sense of dizziness. I’ve seen many doctors and have had every relevant scan performed, but nothing shows any significant damage to my bone structure or nervous system that would cause these symptoms. My migraines are now under much better control through medication, but the dizziness remains.
Avatar m tn I was involve in a very bad car accident 02/10 and have no memory of the actual wreck. the hospital deemed I have a severe concussion and then also diagnosed me with Post Concussion Syndrome. I am currently also experiencing back and neck problems as well as getting a collarbone checked out for a possible fracture. My question is does coffee effect concussion and PCS recovery. And how long does recovery generally take.
Avatar f tn I have almost all the symptoms plus extreme fatigue, feel like fainting (in stores/malls so I avoid them) etc., and I have zero quality of life. But mine happened after a head injury and hope your husband didn't hit his head and had a concussion. Have they checked for LYME disease which is very tricky to find and can cause all these symptoms. I had done all the tests, tried many medications, therapies etc., with no success except Xanax helps a little bit.
2003325 tn?1327580228 i feel horrible vertigo and light headness, body weakness, i take many brain test like cat scan, EEg, but all test are good, doctor ask you have muscular weakness a take neuro met injections but still problem i have, and i physicatrict doctor ask you are suffering in generalized anxiety and he gives me some anxiety medicines after medicines i feel some pressure in my nose and little cheek and some pressure forhead and near my left eye.
Avatar n tn I have had no less than 4 major hits to my head through accidents and a husband. When your head gets jolted, often your brain "bangs" against the skull. It causes you to feel sick to your stomach, get dizzy easily, and forget your train of thought. They used to call this a "concussion". Now they don't like to use that term. The last few times the doctor used a different term, like mild trauma to the head of something.
Avatar f tn My doctor doesn't seem to think my health is her problem so I'm going to turn to you guys & get your opinion. I was in a car accident where I hit someone head on (their fault, don't judge!) going about 30-40mph on June 1st. I didn't hit my head but somehow got a nasty concussion (my second one). Recovery was rough but I finally felt okay enough to work again (about 2 mos. later). Soon, my symptoms started to come back, one of which was even worse than before: my dizziness.
Avatar m tn Even after relatively minor head trauma, in which no abnormalities are present on imaging, there can be injury to nerve cells in the brain as a result of stretching or jarring. Post-concussion syndrome is characterized by a variety of neurologic and non-neurologic symptoms including fatigue, memory problems, and so-called dizziness (whether light-headedness or vertigo). Symptoms can last several weeks to months but typically improve over time.
Avatar f tn To anyone who might be willing to offer advice and insight... I figured I've done everything else, trying something like this can't hurt. For over two and a half years now, I've been suffering from constant vertigo, and about all I have to show for it is that it is called vertigo. I remember the onset very clearly, it was labor day weekend of 2006, my first semester away at college, and I was climbing into bed when I felt a wave of dizziness hit me.
