concussion

Avatar f tn I know the symptoms I have are a part of the concussion but they are bad (bec I already have the chiari symptoms) and it has been since Friday and I still feel HORRIBLE! I see a chiari specialist at the end of the month but in the mean time could this hitting my head on the wall possibly made things worse? (I did not have a ct for the concussion, the dr. just diagnosed me by my symptoms and what happened).

Avatar n tn I had another Brain Mapping for a month ago by the same doctor and results show a significant impact of my more recent concussion vs. the previous one. I was told that none of the therapies that were used before, nor any other therapies, would improve my condition at this point.
Avatar f tn I fell a couple of weeks ago and fell coming down the stairs in my socks on hard wood surface, I fell and hit the back of my head my Doctor thinks I have a mild concussion but I'm thinking maybe I should call my surgeon. It's a year after my surgery but the back of my head is killing me after I've fallen down some stairs and banged it pretty hard.
Avatar m tn I'm 16 years old after my football concussion my eyes have gotten farther apart now I can't even look my friends in the eyes . Do eye doctors do surgery for this or medicine . What should I do ?
Avatar n tn m a little nervous about this and just wanted to know the general odds or percentages when you have a concussion and your smell/taste and hearing come back. Thank you.
Avatar f tn You should be referred to a neurosurgeon at a hospital in a university setting, get a new MRI of the brain, and let him decide what happened to you, and offer treatment of some kind, to include poss surgery, physical therapy, and medication. And as with any brain injury, recovery is measured in degrees rather than cure. But I don't like the sound of you getting worse, so that's why I say see a top doc.
Avatar m tn I was involve in a very bad car accident 02/10 and have no memory of the actual wreck. the hospital deemed I have a severe concussion and then also diagnosed me with Post Concussion Syndrome. I am currently also experiencing back and neck problems as well as getting a collarbone checked out for a possible fracture. My question is does coffee effect concussion and PCS recovery. And how long does recovery generally take.
Avatar f tn After suffering a concussion April 17, 2008 I lost my sense of smell and taste. I was pushed off a 3 foot wall and knocked out for over a minute. I have had a CT scan and an MRI which show nothing wrong. But I still cannot smell or taste anything. Any suggestions?
Avatar m tn My concussion occurred 37 days ago when I slipped and fell backwards hitting the back of my head on a turf surface. In terms of the concussion recovery, I've been working with a concussion therapist to employ the practices of slowly getting back into activities without provoking symptoms. Unfortunately, I haven't seen much progress and may even have my symptoms come on earlier. I believe that this is related to sleep and neck issues that began about 18-20 days into the recovery.
Avatar m tn s been a year since his last concussion and he is making slow progress, but progress. Still has mood swings, ADD, and sleeplessness, but has made nice gains. He went on a flight to Scottland to visit a friend and seemed fine while in Scottland, but seemed to have regressed in symptoms when he returned home. Mood swings returned significantly and his choices and behaviors reflect significant impairment of executive function ability.
Avatar f tn At times a subdural hematoma develops slowly and may be missed on the first MRI. Also concussion can cause persisting headaches and should be allowed to slowly subside before active sports are considered. Injury to neck, to jaw bone, and even eyes should be considered. Get his eye sight also checked. May be the headaches are because he needs spectacles. -Take care!
Avatar f tn The impact of the ball caused the concussion, and the shape of his pupil is now oval. I took him to a pediatric opthamologist who did a thorough exam. He said there is no lasting damage other than the shape of the pupil, but he needed glasses. When he "recovered" from the concussion three weeks later, he tried to go back to baseball but could no longer judge the speed and distance of the ball. He had to quit. He has been moody and pesting ever since the concussion.
Avatar f tn I had absence seizures and a few grand mals for about twenty years. I had brain surgery six years ago to treat this. Since then, I haven't had any 'normal' seizures. However, my EEG is still abnormal and when it is showing seizure-like activity, I have a bad headache. I tried various medications for my seizures over the years and they just made it to where I was really out of it and still having some seizures. That is why I asked about and went ahead with the surgery.

Avatar f tn Has anyone ever had an issue with the soft spot created by the decompression surgery? I am able to press on the soft spot and feel the pressure change in my head. Very strange. I had decompression surgery back in '09 and have been careful since then to avoid injury to that area... until a few days ago when when I accidentally hit my soft spot on the back of a chair I was sitting in and ended up in the ER with a concussion.
Avatar n tn I ended up getting an MRI which came back normal and was told that I had post concussive syndrome. My nausea got worse and worse and I ended up seeing a GI and getting an endoscopy and checking my gall bladder. Both were ok. At one point I went to the ER with chest pains, and they said it was acid reflux (although later another doctor told me it was more likely a pulled muscle).
Avatar f tn Probably you had a concussion and having Post Concussion effects. You can consult a Neuro-Otologist and Neurologist and see if you have any inner ear issues. Reason for dizziness can be very many. Get an MRI done to be safe.

Avatar m tn d just like to know if the flash in my vision is from the laser surgery and if it will go away, and if the fainting and supposed seizure was induced from the surgery also and not just a coincidence?
Avatar f tn My son was diagnosed with Benign Exterior Hydrocephalus with Chronic Subderral Hematomas at age 1. We believe he bonked his head (he did seem to have a target on it) and with the Hydrocephalus his brain bounced around and tore a vessel. Thankfully the hematoma reabsorbed. We didn't need surgery. He has been "on the high end of normal" for 9 years now for his Hydro so we hadn't needed surgery there either.
Avatar m tn A doctor generally looks for focal neurological or generalized neurological symptoms that would show there is a pressure on brain somewhere. In absence of these symptoms and based on the history a diagnosis of concussion is given. If concussion is severe, and there is underlying brain injury, then yes, even death can occur. Hope this helps! Take care!
Avatar f tn This then can be checked for the full year if there is any sort of injury to see if it is a concussion. Otherwise, you have to look for symptoms. This article you can copy and paste has a lot of info related to concussions. We looked for the signs after my son took a big head splitter in a soccer game and was put under concussion watch. https://my.clevelandclinic.
