Concussion and sleepiness

Common Questions and Answers about Concussion and sleepiness

concussion

Avatar f tn I went snowboarding yesterday and hit my head twice, hard and now have been having headaches, dizziness and sleepiness. I do not think I have a concussion because my pupils still dilate. I'm not sure whats going on but I need to know if it is serious or not since I play hockey and I don't want to say anything until I have had a second opinion.
Avatar m tn The other night while we were driving home at about 65 miles per hour, we had to stop almost immediately due to an elk standing in the road. Starting the next day, I've had concussion symptoms (headache/dizziness/fatigue/sleepiness/mental fatigue/brain fog/difficulty concentrating/feeling out of it). I did not hit my head, but I did sort of brace it/try to hold it in place while we stopped. Is it possible to get a concussion just from slamming on the brakes at 65 miles per hour?
Avatar m tn I was involve in a very bad car accident 02/10 and have no memory of the actual wreck. the hospital deemed I have a severe concussion and then also diagnosed me with Post Concussion Syndrome. I am currently also experiencing back and neck problems as well as getting a collarbone checked out for a possible fracture. My question is does coffee effect concussion and PCS recovery. And how long does recovery generally take.
648439 tn?1225058862 I have been dizzy for about 6 days - week 5 of treatment. I started taking AD's on Sat and now feel really sleepy and cannot go to work. I only took two half tablets of the AD - took half Sat am and half Sun pm. Is this (sleepiness) likely to be an effect of the AD's or the tx. Should I stop taking the AD's to see how I go without the?
1636858 tn?1307458394 All my adult life I have felt that I have to put my head down and lie down and cannot carry on anymore. I am now 66 years old and have to lie down often. Sometimes I feel "grim" with it and sometimes have a migaine. No doctor could tell me what is causing this except that I am hypo mobile, although this is not severe. I also have LBBB and a low BP and pulse rate. Any suggestions?
Avatar f tn I think I slept through my entire first pregnancy. My second and third not so much. And this 4th time around, I suspect I could sleep until March when I'm due!
Avatar f tn I have less than 8 weeks and I feel the exact same way. Working full-time & barely getting thru the day. To top it off I'm a single parent of an active super energetic 3 yr old.

Avatar m tn No amount of sleep or napping will remove the sleepiness. We have done bloodwork and everything has come back normal (we did not check t3 though), pulse ox was fine according to them, but here is my question- My O2 levels are always around 92, my pulse averages 35-40, and blood pressure generally ~105/70. These are waking and sleeping stats. Pulse responds accordingly to exercise. I was once in very good shape years ago, but haven't been to a gym or worked out in years. I am not an athlete.
Avatar n tn What do I do about having sleepiness while I am in my 12th week of pregnancy first trimester?
1439353 tn?1309288364 I am currently on my second cycle of clomid and I am so tired I could sleep at the drop of a hat. I don't remember feeling this way the first time I was on it. has anyone had experience with feeling extreme tiredness/sleepiness where you fight to keep your eyes open? I am just so tired. Tonight is my last pill but I know it stays in your system for a while. Sigh. Any advice would be MOST appreciated! Thanks!
Avatar f tn I know the symptoms I have are a part of the concussion but they are bad (bec I already have the chiari symptoms) and it has been since Friday and I still feel HORRIBLE! I see a chiari specialist at the end of the month but in the mean time could this hitting my head on the wall possibly made things worse? (I did not have a ct for the concussion, the dr. just diagnosed me by my symptoms and what happened).
Avatar f tn I have been for tests and I go back soon. My injury was a concussion and there is a lot of lingering issues with that. During the injury my neck was injured and since the initial numbness of both I have been suffering from severe headaches (not migraine but severe) and my neck has been so sore. Even to move it from side to side. So I take the medication which helps me tolerate the pain and helps me keep moving my neck so it does not get stiff, or stay stiff I guess.
Avatar f tn The adrenals will keep pumping out cortisol for years and years and years.
Avatar m tn s been a year since his last concussion and he is making slow progress, but progress. Still has mood swings, ADD, and sleeplessness, but has made nice gains. He went on a flight to Scottland to visit a friend and seemed fine while in Scottland, but seemed to have regressed in symptoms when he returned home. Mood swings returned significantly and his choices and behaviors reflect significant impairment of executive function ability.
Avatar f tn CT and all came back clear. Other than the cuts and bruises, they diagnosed me with cervical strain and a concussion. I did hit my head-although I do not remember it but my helmet shows it & I am sore. I did not lose consciousness. I have been nauseous and dizzy ever since the accident and it has gotten worse. I feel dizzy just looking at things & when I close my eyes. I am taking Zofran for the nausea.
Avatar f tn At times a subdural hematoma develops slowly and may be missed on the first MRI. Also concussion can cause persisting headaches and should be allowed to slowly subside before active sports are considered. Injury to neck, to jaw bone, and even eyes should be considered. Get his eye sight also checked. May be the headaches are because he needs spectacles. -Take care!
Avatar f tn The impact of the ball caused the concussion, and the shape of his pupil is now oval. I took him to a pediatric opthamologist who did a thorough exam. He said there is no lasting damage other than the shape of the pupil, but he needed glasses. When he "recovered" from the concussion three weeks later, he tried to go back to baseball but could no longer judge the speed and distance of the ball. He had to quit. He has been moody and pesting ever since the concussion.
Avatar f tn Each brain injury is unique and try to get some one who can listen to you and may be a concussion specialist if you can. I am even considering Stem Cell Therapy for which I have to travel outside U.S.A. Keep me posted if you can.
Avatar f tn Probably you had a concussion and having Post Concussion effects. You can consult a Neuro-Otologist and Neurologist and see if you have any inner ear issues. Reason for dizziness can be very many. Get an MRI done to be safe.
Avatar f tn The C1 was fractured in three places and he had a severe concussion concussion. Since then he’s had excessive saliva resulting in excessive coughing. He’s coughing several times a minute. Is there any connection between brain trauma and excessive saliva?
Avatar f tn So within the past week or so I have been dealing with sudden bouts of extreme sleepiness. I get enough sleep (nothing has changed in my sleep patterns or my diet), and I'm fine in the morning aside from general tiredness from just waking up. But a few hours into my day (usually late-morning or early-afternoon) I will suddenly get hit with extreme sleepiness and pressure in my head (dull headache).
Avatar m tn My concussion occurred 37 days ago when I slipped and fell backwards hitting the back of my head on a turf surface. In terms of the concussion recovery, I've been working with a concussion therapist to employ the practices of slowly getting back into activities without provoking symptoms. Unfortunately, I haven't seen much progress and may even have my symptoms come on earlier. I believe that this is related to sleep and neck issues that began about 18-20 days into the recovery.
Avatar m tn A doctor generally looks for focal neurological or generalized neurological symptoms that would show there is a pressure on brain somewhere. In absence of these symptoms and based on the history a diagnosis of concussion is given. If concussion is severe, and there is underlying brain injury, then yes, even death can occur. Hope this helps! Take care!
