Concussion and physical therapy

Common Questions and Answers about Concussion and physical therapy

concussion

Avatar m tn After a month and a half of these adjustments 3 times a week, we gave up on it and I stuck to medication and physical therapy. I would like to be able to return to school soon being that this time in my life is critical to my future and I'm wondering if my condition is reversable. If the atlas is what was knocked out of place during my concussion, is there a way to make it permanently stay in place?
Avatar f tn I suffered a concussion 3 months later which caused additional neurological problems and temporary seizures but those have mostly resolved. 3 years later I have hyperreflexia, spasticity, clonus, and present babinski on my right side and I'm unable to do many activities or run. I have had an MRI of my brain and cervical spine which showed no significant changes.
Avatar m tn I have severe post-concussion syndrome for almost 15 months now. Already had neck/back therapies post neck surgery & C6-7 fusion 7 years prior, which may be from car accident & TBI 15 years prior to that. Yes, loss of curvature normal kyphosis of neck is a problem that inhibits concussion recovery, as does lack of quality sleep for the brain to heal. Yes, gentle chirpractic has help for me, but stay away from "strengthening exercises" and overdoing physical therapy.
Avatar f tn You should be referred to a neurosurgeon at a hospital in a university setting, get a new MRI of the brain, and let him decide what happened to you, and offer treatment of some kind, to include poss surgery, physical therapy, and medication. And as with any brain injury, recovery is measured in degrees rather than cure. But I don't like the sound of you getting worse, so that's why I say see a top doc.
Avatar f tn medications and physical and behavioral therapy may be used, and patients can be educated about symptoms and their usual prognosis. Majority of PCS cases disappear after a period of time. Please go for MRI of the brain and consult a neurologist to find out if there is any serious injury to the brain, and for the symptomatic treatment. Hope this helps you. Take care and regards!
Avatar n tn I had a slight concussion, and whip lash. Ever since then I have had severe headaches on the left side of my head and frequent dizziness. The headaches start on the left side of my neck and travel into my head. I wake up in severe pain everyday, and if I move my neck the wrong way or sleep the wrong way, I am severly dizzy all day. This has been very dibilatating during the past two years. I spent months in physical therapy and there was no real relief.
Avatar f tn Then I went to another neurologist and he said it was my ears. So I went to physical therapy and he said it wasn't my ears. I'm so confused now. Can someone please help??:( any suggestions on what it is? Or is it pcs? I've had mris cts eegs and tons of bloodwork everything was normal.
Avatar f tn Treatment commonly may be suggested for headaches such as pain killers, some antidepressants, physical therapy and regular exercises. If you suffer continuous headache, please arrange an appointment with a neurologist right away who will evaluate the possibilities here and can provide you an appropriate treatment.

Avatar f tn I went to physical therapy for 8 months after my surgery and it did help. The physical therapist researched chiari and syringomyelia and did not allow me to do anything that caused pain- ie: if the exercise caused pain she discontinued it and had me try something else. You may also benefit from seeing an occupational therapist.
Avatar f tn What can I do to help him with his physical and visual progress? His pupils are still dilated. We only let him on the floor when supervised. Otherwise I made him a playpen using a large box, pillows and towels. He's quite good at walking even on the soft surfaces and can climb over obstacles, pillows, books, shoes, etc. Thank you.

My flexibility is okay for my age (although it seems worse to me than it used to be), but I have weakness in my hip flexors and in my ankle muscles.
772216 tn?1259273237 Thanks for the update. It usually takes 2-3 weeks before you begin to notice a difference. At least that's the normal. And yes initially you wil have more pain while going through PT. You need to push through some pain but it shouldn't be excruciating. You should discuss this with your physical therapist and your physician.

Avatar n tn I was hit from behind when playing ball hockey and I suffered a concussion after I went head first into the goalie. I had a cat scan done and it was normal immediately after the hit. Its been 11 months and everytime I try a light exercise for example walking around the block for about 20 minutes I get headaches. I used to swim, jog and play sports regularly and now since the accident I have gained a lot weight and don't know what to do to stay active.
Avatar n tn Several treatments exist for cervical muscle spasm - including muscle relaxant medications such as Valium and Flexeril and various types of physical therapy- which may be effective at reducing or even eliminating cervical muscle spasm. I would recommend follow up with your primary physician or neurologist to have your son evaluated for this ongoing problem. Best of luck.
Avatar f tn At times a subdural hematoma develops slowly and may be missed on the first MRI. Also concussion can cause persisting headaches and should be allowed to slowly subside before active sports are considered. Injury to neck, to jaw bone, and even eyes should be considered. Get his eye sight also checked. May be the headaches are because he needs spectacles. -Take care!
Avatar n tn In such cases, physical therapy is important, as is counseling if he has sufferred significant stress related to the ordeal. Time is required for improvement in such cases, and persistence with physical therapy is important, as months are sometimes required for full recovery. I recommend continued follow-up with your neurologist, paritcularly if your son's symptoms do not improve or he develops new symptoms.
