Common Questions and Answers about Concussion and pain killers

concussion

Avatar f tn Hi, Your friend’s headache may be a symptom of Post concussion syndrome. Please ask your friend to take OTC pain killers for symptomatic relief. Symptoms of PCS usually subside on their own and may not require any treatment. A neurologist must be consulted if the symptoms persist. An MRI must be done to find out if there is any serious injury to the brain. Hope this helps you. Take care and regards!

Avatar f tn Hi, I had a concussion about 3 wks ago and after that I have had a tingling sensation in my feet. I want to know if this is expected and what can be done to resolve this. As a a positive side effect, I have also noticed that things seem to be moving in slow motion some times. In other words, I see things much quicker and my reflexes have improved. Is this normal ?
Avatar n tn Day three I started bruising around outside of my eye and became tired and confused a little. My dr. Tested me and said it was mild concussion and to take it easy. Does anyone know what signs I can look for if I'm to be getting better. I'm still tired, irritable and restless.
Avatar n tn I was hit from behind when playing ball hockey and I suffered a concussion after I went head first into the goalie. I had a cat scan done and it was normal immediately after the hit. Its been 11 months and everytime I try a light exercise for example walking around the block for about 20 minutes I get headaches. I used to swim, jog and play sports regularly and now since the accident I have gained a lot weight and don't know what to do to stay active.
Avatar f tn I would suggest you to take rest and OTC pain killers for pain and stiffness. You can also apply cold compresses to the head and neck. Please watch out for symptoms like dizziness, and vomiting. Please remember it is always better to get yourself evaluated by a doctor after head injury. Take care!

Avatar f tn I know the symptoms I have are a part of the concussion but they are bad (bec I already have the chiari symptoms) and it has been since Friday and I still feel HORRIBLE! I see a chiari specialist at the end of the month but in the mean time could this hitting my head on the wall possibly made things worse? (I did not have a ct for the concussion, the dr. just diagnosed me by my symptoms and what happened).

Avatar f tn I am currently addicted to pain killers and the best advice I can give you is only take them as directed and as needed. If you start to feel the need to have them even when you're not in pain or just because you want to feel good, you're starting to get addicted and you need to stop taking them and talk to your doctor ASAP. These things are extremely addictive and even harder to get off so please do what your doctor says and you shouldn't be in my situation.
765775 tn?1366024691 I have been prescribed Oxycontin 20mg and Percocet 5/325 for the pain I have related to seven shoulder surgeries, back pain, ankle pain. Ankle Reconstruction surgery w/tendon graft is scheduled for this Wednesday. I am supposed to take the Oxycontin every 12 hours but I only take it once a day and I am supposed to take the Percocet every 4-6 hours as needed but only take (1) in the evening after the Oxycontin wears off. This does not totally relieve my pain but makes it bearable.
475555 tn?1469304339 But how do you do that? Life is full of pain. I have back pain, stomache pain, intestinal pain, shoulder pain, and other pains every day. It goes with the age, especially as I lived a wild and crazy life and never took care of myself. Trouble is, after reading about all the side-effects of antiviral treatment, I'm gonna be out of action altogether without pain killers.
1004216 tn?1275109053 Well, there are all types of pan and all type of pain killers and procedures to to reduce pain. A pain specialist is the gate keeper. She makes sure that you are not over medicated or under medicated. She decides which procedures would be of benefit and which would not. She decides which drugs and how much. And someone must prescribe them. I hope you're not considering using street drugs! Very illegal and very dangerous.

Avatar f tn It could be that someone could take a short acting pain med and yet they still feel teh pain relief maybe 8-10 hours after the dose and they do not need to take itt at the 4-6 hour level. Other people on the long acting medications may get the full period of pain relief from them (say the 12 hours), but otheres may not and may require a short acting med for BT (breakthrough) pain - that is pain that "breaks through" the covereage from the long acting med.
