Concussion and nose bleeds

Common Questions and Answers about Concussion and nose bleeds

concussion

I do not get anything out of it when I blow it. Can a concussion cause nose bleeds? I injured the mid-back of my head. It swelled quite large and was sore to the touch for approximately two weeks. These nosebleeds come out of no where. I am able to stop them by applying pressure on the area. Any ideas for me? I can't see my VA doctor until May 20th. CT scans were taken with and without contrast and they said nothing was seen on the scan. Any help would be appreciated.
Hi, I fell from an 18-wheeler onto pavement, hitting my left shoulder and then, my back and my neck and head 'snapped'....I had 11 stitches to close the wound in the back of my head. That was 3 years ago, and I still have dizzy spells, (if I turn suddenly) and occasional vomitting. Trouble sleeping if i end up on the back of my head.... A neurologist noted, the 'cT-scan is normal'....and that it is just 'post concussion syndrome' which sounds like I must be a hypochondriac.
First off hello and thank you for reading this, I think I have a concussion because today I was playing a game of soccer with some friends and one of them accidentally kicked the ball in my face. What happened was it hit me in the head and my head tilted backwards 3-4 iches and it hurt a little in my head but mostly on my face i saw my glasses fly away to I went to get them and my face was in pain for about 2 minutes.
Does anyone know if I'm dying or if I should be like immedietly going to the hospital or something,or if I really don't have to worry about it and it's normal? I'm perfectly fine in everything else and feel fine and well and normal and everything.
My 5yr old daughter has had 4 episodes of fainting the first two been the worst i was called to school as she fainted when standing (not doing anything energetic) the teacher noticed blue around her mouth i took her to gp and while waiting in waiting room she was on my knee very pale(grey in colour face and lips and blue around her mouth she passed out in my arms and was unconcious for around 20mins the doctors lay her on bed and rang ambulance her face was grey in colour and lips the same colou
Now my nose on the right side feels full and stuffy and when I breathe in the side of the nose pulls inward. These nosebleeds began about two to three weeks after the accident. Is there a possibility that these are related?
MOST disturbing, is that they have now been accompanied by SEVERE nose bleeds that can take up to 45 minutes to stop. During one of these episodes I rushed her to the emergency dept. They did a CAT scan and referred us to a pediatrician within the hospital I took her to, (she does have a family doctor but they suggested we see this pediatrician). We have recently received the results of the CAT scan they did in the emerg. dept.
) Last night she complained of pain in the ear so we sent her back to the hospital, a different one, not where we sent her for the nosebleeds (so at least, a second opinion). The Doctor examined her nose and ears and found an ear infection, she even showed me the bulging ear drum. I asked if a CT Scan was needed and she only suggested an X Ray, taking into consideration the risks, mentioned radiation, etc. , and the lack of symptoms that would call for a CT Scan. They found nothing in the X Ray.
I have talked to the neurosurgeon who did the surgery and he shrugged his shoulders and said I have no idea and sent me back to my neurologist. He gave me a series of injections in both shoulders and the pain stopped for a couple days but then came right back. Then we tried message therapy, it helps but only for a short period. And I have tried changing my pillows on my bed and sleeping in different positions and nothing seems to help for long term. What can I do?
As parents, the first thing we worry about when our child has headaches this bad is that he has a tumor. The odds are so rare. The answers above will tell a lot I would like to add, does anyone on your side or the father's side have on-going headaches or migraines? Also, remember it is common for children to have nosebleeds because the blood vessels in their noses are so close to the top of the skin. And whether we like it or not, they pick their noses. they're little kids.
I fell 2 nights ago, bruised my forehead, nose and have a nasty cut on my swollen lips. I know that my head was twisted as it slammed against the wall. I did not know at the time if I could move, just in case I had a broken neck. I laid there quite awhile, as my husband and I pondered as to whether we should call the e-unit, and be placed on a stretcher and be taken to the hospital for observation.
Sounds like an impact injury. Kind of like being hit in your nose. It bleeds for a bit, there may be some swelling but in time it all settles down. The impact can also cause a mild concussion which can affect her balance. If you don't see constant improvement over the next day or two, take her in. For now, keep her quiet and don't let her run around much. Don't need another injury while she disoriented.
I've had sinus problems since I was a kid. Chronic nose bleeds and facial pain and recurring lung infections starting in my early 20's. As much as three times per year. In 2003 I suffered a workplace injury which resulted in a minor concussion. During my CT scan the woman asked me if I was feeling any sinus pain. I told her no.( I wasn't). She said how could you not feel that your sinusus are so inflammed. She also added that there was nothing else wrong but just inflammed.
Hi, My current boyfriend of 3 years had a bad head injury 10 years ago, someone attacked him from behind knocking him out causing him to fall side ways onto the towbar on a car, at the time he weighed 15 stone. This caused him to have 3 bleeds to the brain and doctors thought he'd been hit with a ball pane hammer to the side of the head he had multiple fractures around that area. . . . . 6 months or so later he had a 27 minute fit caused by the injury.
I had a catscan shortly after the injury that showed that I had a concussion and just recently had an MRI that showed nothing. I have been having vision problems and memory problems. I seem to have developed a slight stuttering problem and slowed speech especially when I am tired. I stopped taking medications about 3 years ago because they were just not doing anything for my headaches and were only causing stomach problems.
So I talked to my Dr again and they are sending me to the Ears nose and throat dr. Not sure what that has to do with my brain and my problems maybe they are just trying to rule out other problems. Mine scares me a little, I can smell a little and taste a little but that sweet smokey smell is what is most common except when I eat raw fruit, raw veggies, and sweets. I am worried I might not smell a gas leak or something.
That day, we went to the emergency room. They did a CT scan to check for brain bleeds and bruising and said the CT was clean. They gave me Demerol, Phenergen, and a prescription for 2mg tablet steroids, phenergen, and vicodin. While I was on Demerol, I experienced a blood pressure drop from 127/78 to 102/60.
It felt like someone punched me in the nose. I went to an ENT this past Tuesday. He put a small camera in my nose and said there was a lot of swelling and discharge and put me on Amoxicillian for the next 2 weeks. He also ordered a CT after I'm finished with the antibiotics. Well yesterday, I woke up with the most excruciating headache I've ever had. My PC doc ruled out a migraine because I had no nausea and lights were not affecting me.
I tried mixing water and peroxide half and half and it was way too much for me!) To put it in your nose: Lay on your back with your head just barely hanging over the side of the bed. Shake the mixture, then add a few drops to one nostril, wait a few seconds for the burning to stop, then put a few drops in the other nostril. Leave it in there for a few minutes, then I usually add more drops to each side.
sometimes i think it's supplements i'm taking and other times i'm not sure. didn't have it for a while and now it's back again. sometimes i get eczema around my nose area and i think it's that. most times it starts in my office where they used to smoke inside and now smoke outside. but as long as i don't have a tumor i'll live with it.
It scares me, especially since my husband had brain surgery less than 2 years ago- (symptoms completely different of course) I am 35 years old, the only time I remember hitting my head really hard is when I was in elementary school and I fell and hit my head on a tile floor. I have had a history of passing out and having seizures but the doctors never figured out for sure what caused it and it hasn't happened for a few years.
I am a 45 year old female. I've been living with this blood vessel popping in my hands for decades. I also get nose bleeds that can last for hours and wounds can take upwards of 2 weeks or longer to heal properly (pour wound healing). Although I am a hemophilia carrier, and was negative for Von Wildebrands, I take 4000 mg/day of Vit D, and 2000 mg of Vit C, the research that I have done indicates that its a thyroid issue.
