Common Questions and Answers about Concussion and neurology

concussion

Avatar f tn Usually, such symptoms may result due to post-concussion syndrome and may last for weeks or months after the injury that caused from the injury of a fall, vehicle accident, or sports injury. For treatment approach, first it is essential to get (MRI) done to detect the brain or spinal abnormalities after that injury. Treatment commonly may be suggested for symptoms such as pain-killers, some antidepressants, physical therapy and regular exercises.
Avatar f tn How long after a concussion is it normal to still be feeling nauseous and have difficulty with memory, balance etc. I got hit in the face with a softball 11 days ago and am still nauseous. Cannot stand on one leg with eyes closed, and have forgotten things like PIN numbers, passwords etc. is it too soon to expect these symptoms to be gone, or should I go back to the drs. I did also break my nose, which was realigned under local anaesthetic 6 days ago. No LOC. No actual vomiting.
Avatar f tn They gave me medicine and it helped. Then I went to a neurologist and he said it was post concussion syndrome. Then I went to another neurologist and he said it was my ears. So I went to physical therapy and he said it wasn't my ears. I'm so confused now. Can someone please help??:( any suggestions on what it is? Or is it pcs? I've had mris cts eegs and tons of bloodwork everything was normal.
435918 tn?1204737341 I suffer muscles that get as stiff as metal rods and are very painful. This happened after a concussion with symptoms so strong there were times I could barely walk, along with a host of other symptoms, for weeks after the accident. Then followed the 'metal' muscles. There are a number of very rational reasons to suggest maladaptive synaptogenesis because of focal axon injury, and all i want is to get an mri or dti test and an expert to look at it.
Avatar n tn what does it mean when you slip and fall and hit your head off the floor and now you are having shooting pain throughout your head, neck, and jaw. And also you are very dizzy and shaking?
Avatar f tn Aside from headache, other symptoms noted are dizziness, lightheadedness, memory loss, nausea or vomiting, blurred vision and sensitivity to light, difficulty in concentrating or with balance. For complex concussion, symptoms may last longer than 7-10 days. Have her rest and to avoid any activities. It is also important to avoid loud, bright, busy environments. Acetaminophen or other aspirin-free medications may help with the headaches.
Avatar f tn Yes I seen a neurologist they say its vascular headaches before that they told me it was a post concussion and before that its was a whiplash but mri is good and so was my ct scan but I not improving..I done acupuncture for 2 months and nothing is helping..they want to give me betta blockers but I don't want to take anymore meds..
Avatar m tn s but they said no when she was admitted to the hospital in Jan and did every test in the book and could not find anything at all! She did have a neurology consult and they did MRI, MRA, doppler on Carotids, Echo, EKG, CT, you name it they did it!! The symptoms seem to go away for a few months and have now returned with a vengence! She fell a week ago and now they are more pronounced. Her family doctor has ordered a follow up ct for the fall and referred her to a neurologist. ANy ideas?
Avatar f tn Yesterday I suffered mild blow to the head. I have hit my head many times before, much harder than yesterday and yet, I've never experienced any symptoms that might be indicative of concussion. Yesterday, however, I felt a bit dizzy for a few minutes immediately after having been hit. Also, 15 minutes following the blow, I started to feel a bit nauseated.
Avatar n tn my boyfriend suffered multiple concussions and post concussion before he suffered a couple within the last month. my main concern is his extreme borderline personality symptoms thathe now has. he is still healing from the injuries so understandably his symptoms are more serious but my main concern is if it may not subside overtime but if it will, how long will it take cause it is alot for me to handle. are there any treatments for him to take.
Avatar f tn Am I out of the woods of fearing of a brain bleed? I’m hoping this was just a concussion and that my head will heal completely with no long term, permanent complications. I have been talking with a nurse practitioner that focused in neurology because I can’t get into the doctor right yet. She said she doesn’t seem too worried about it, but keep monitoring for another 1.5 weeks or so. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Avatar f tn Otherwise she could be suffering from migraine headaches and double vision and mydriasis. This diagnosis would be based on clinical analysis and exclusion of others. Let a neurologist examine her in detail. Take care.
Avatar f tn I had a concussion in May 2010 and a few months later this started. I would be wide awake and my eyelids did not move I have to use my fingers to spread the eyelids open. My neurologist does not feel it is neurological because my MRI is clean.
Avatar n tn The last time I woke up several minutes later, choking on vomit and lying in a large pool of blood with a concussion, broken nose and smashed face. I started on my knees and ended up across the room. This has to be more than vasovagal syncope. It has become a life threatening condition. I have never fainted otherwise. The vomiting is simply viral or mild food poisoning and I'm usually not that sick. Not even light headed before it happens.
Avatar m tn I was involve in a very bad car accident 02/10 and have no memory of the actual wreck. the hospital deemed I have a severe concussion and then also diagnosed me with Post Concussion Syndrome. I am currently also experiencing back and neck problems as well as getting a collarbone checked out for a possible fracture. My question is does coffee effect concussion and PCS recovery. And how long does recovery generally take.
Avatar m tn be/R8GZ7OZKCx8 Went to the ER and the doc said she thought it could make my post concussion syndrome temporarily worse (and I definitely have been experiencing some bad symptoms) but I guess she did not seem too concerned and did not think I needed and further testing from scans or anything like that
Avatar f tn He played high school and college football and substained a concussion playing football while in 10th grade. He also broke his ankle playing college footbal which resulted in surgery and a metal plate was fused to his bones to repair his broken ankle. ER doctors think he had a seizure @ the wheel of the car. I am totally uninformed, am not a doctor and don't think he has eplipesy or seizures. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Avatar f tn If I do not show improvement with the optic nerve swelling, neurology will be doing another puncture and putting me on meds- Diamox.
703821 tn?1231722095 The amnesia, concussion, inability to retain, blindness, loss of hearing, vertigo, tinnitus, now over-lapped vision, migraines, severe back and neck spasms, partial numbness that varies in the legs and hands, and constant feeling of head floating and pressure. I have had most of the symptoms some that developed gradually after the fall of June 22, 2008.
Avatar f tn I know the symptoms I have are a part of the concussion but they are bad (bec I already have the chiari symptoms) and it has been since Friday and I still feel HORRIBLE! I see a chiari specialist at the end of the month but in the mean time could this hitting my head on the wall possibly made things worse? (I did not have a ct for the concussion, the dr. just diagnosed me by my symptoms and what happened).
Avatar f tn 2010, I received a hairline fracture at C3 and a concussion, due to a fall. I was placed in a neck brace and received Physical therapy for two months. I felt great until May of 2010, when a "thunderclap" headache awakened me. My doc's office told me to call 911. I did so, and was seen in th ER at the University Of Michigan. They did an MRE with contrast and a lumbar Puncture.
Avatar m tn s been a year since his last concussion and he is making slow progress, but progress. Still has mood swings, ADD, and sleeplessness, but has made nice gains. He went on a flight to Scottland to visit a friend and seemed fine while in Scottland, but seemed to have regressed in symptoms when he returned home. Mood swings returned significantly and his choices and behaviors reflect significant impairment of executive function ability.
Avatar f tn At times a subdural hematoma develops slowly and may be missed on the first MRI. Also concussion can cause persisting headaches and should be allowed to slowly subside before active sports are considered. Injury to neck, to jaw bone, and even eyes should be considered. Get his eye sight also checked. May be the headaches are because he needs spectacles. -Take care!
Avatar f tn The impact of the ball caused the concussion, and the shape of his pupil is now oval. I took him to a pediatric opthamologist who did a thorough exam. He said there is no lasting damage other than the shape of the pupil, but he needed glasses. When he "recovered" from the concussion three weeks later, he tried to go back to baseball but could no longer judge the speed and distance of the ball. He had to quit. He has been moody and pesting ever since the concussion.
Avatar f tn The 2nd time I fell and hit my head, obviously had a concussion. 17 years ago, i got dizzy and passed out, no concussion. Back then I was dx with MS even tho I never had a lumbar puncture or any neurological testing. This time everyone has been focused on the concussion.
Avatar m tn Saw the doctor today ...my neurology has been rushed through but still means waiting 4-8 weeks to get an appointment...
Avatar f tn Each brain injury is unique and try to get some one who can listen to you and may be a concussion specialist if you can. I am even considering Stem Cell Therapy for which I have to travel outside U.S.A. Keep me posted if you can.
