Avatar m tn While I was doing that sport I got really bad sharps pains in the back right side of my head. It hurt so bad I had to stop and just stand there. And since my concussion my right leg has been jerking once a lot a day. I have also had a lot of memory problems since my concussion. Avatar n tn As you know, a "Grade 1" concussion is the mildest category. That being said,m there is no such thing as a "harmless concussion", and in the final analysis Lacross is a meaningless activity. Missing a season is not worth a lifetime of problems. I am somewhat concerned he did not have an MRI, and insofar as school authorities are mandated to pick-up-the-bill, this non-invasive test should have been provided.

Avatar m tn Headache, confusion, memory loss, dizziness, nausea vomiting, slurred speech and fatigue are common. Delayed symptoms include depression, irritability, sleep disturbances, seizures, loss of smell etc. Injury to olfactory and lingual nerves of smell and taste could be a cause or it could be that nerves are in shock. Once swelling and contusion following the fall will subside some taste and smell may return. However, when this will happen is difficult to say.
Avatar f tn Again there are cases where it is considered Concussion and suffered from memory loss, executive functioning etc., MRIs/CT scans can only show gross injuries and not at ultra-microscopic level. You can get an MRI and find out if you have any of that but it won't give how many lost. Just look out for symptoms and if there is nothing noticeable you just keep moving on.
Avatar n tn My 13yo is 1year post concussion still with all the symptoms you described and not in school. AND has a cyst on her pituitary gland. She'll be doing more blood work and seeing a neurosurgeon. Do they think your tumor is related to the concussion? Is there a connection to the symptoms? Just read that the symptoms are similar to those of a concussion. thanks.
Avatar m tn Headache, confusion, memory loss, dizziness, nausea vomiting, slurred speech and fatigue are common. Delayed symptoms include depression, irritability, sleep disturbances, seizures, loss of smell etc. A doctor generally looks for focal neurological or generalized neurological symptoms that would show there is a pressure on brain somewhere. In absence of these symptoms and based on the history a diagnosis of concussion is given.
Avatar f tn I suffered a concussion 4 months ago when I fell during a parade with my high school band. My mom took me to the ER and I was diagnosed with a concussion. I had a CT scan and nothing was out of the ordinary, and it seemed to just be a mild concussion. 4 months later, I'm still having issues. I'm a junior in high school and concentration and memory issues made me switch out of all of my honors classes into regular ones and drop both math and science completely.
Avatar f tn I used to be calm and happy, and now I get very easily irritated, and angry at small things. I know part of the irritability is due to the frustrations of forgetting everything, and the constant pain I experience in my neck and back, but it is worse than it should be. I don't know what to do about my problems. Will my memory of that night ever come back?
Avatar f tn This is going to be a long story.. Back on the 9th of June, a small Roku remote landed on my head, later on that day I was in the shower and I patted my head with the bottom of my wrist in the same area the remote landed to straighten my hair out. I did experience nausea and a few headaches and even some memory loss here and there, but I'm not totally sure if that had anything to do with the remote landing on my head or my patting my head.

Avatar m tn I am 55, received MRI after concussion. Was told it was unrelated. 2 days after the concussion, my short term memory, wasn't there, I was forgetting what I was doing if distracted by any thing. Example if someone interrupted me while taking, I forgot what I was talking about. Better after 6 months, but still having some issues. Also following the concussion, I had issues walking. I walked to left, crashed into things.
Avatar m tn Having your head banged and suffering from concussion is very serious. It will take approximately 6 weeks or more for you to start to feel more normal. Any symptoms like headache that you didn't feel before, memory problems, vomiting, swelling and any vision problems should be seen to urgently. There is still a risk of haemorrhage within the skull and because of this it is wise to seek medical advice. Get someone to take you to the hospital, don't go on your own.

Avatar n tn There are a couple of practical things emergency staff do when assessing the degree of head trauma a person has had following concussion - one is called GSC scale - where they ask a series of questions that reveal how orientated you are - goes up to 15. &/15 is severe, above 13 is mild and the middle scores are moderate. They usually do this asap after losing consciousness and then repeat it until you have no problems with the answers.
Avatar m tn Chronic smoking in an individual who has suffered a traumatic brain injury impairs the speed at which the person processes information, his visuo-spatial learning capacity, memory, and global neurocognition. Hope this helps. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you. The advice may not be completely correct for you as the doctor cannot examine you and does not know your complete medical history.
Avatar m tn Did you have a concussion? Are you familiar with syncope and head concussion? I have been to three Neurologist and they think it is due to the concussion, but lean towards epilepsy. My daughter has had three cat scans, two eeg's and an MRI.
Avatar n tn I am sorry to hear about your husband. The memory loss could just be due to concussion which at times persists for years and all of a sudden disappears and the person remembers everything. This does not have any long term complications. The person just needs support from family members and has to learn to live with the memory loss. Memory loss is also a common symptom of frontal lobe injury. Damage to the frontal lobe of the brain causes frontal encephalomalacia.
