Avatar m tn Death often occurs within 3 - 5 years of diagnosis. About 25% of patients survive for more than 5 years after diagnosis. I found an excellent article on scribd called - Slowing the Progression of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (Motor Neurone Disease). This condition is also called Lou Gehrig Disease. I'll send you the link.
Avatar n tn But there were none on the tongue. I asked what this was being checked for and they both said ALS, Lou Gehrig Disease. There is no one test for ALS. The body has to be monitored over a long period of time, an EMG should be done, possibly EEG also. And all test results along noticed symptoms and changes in symptoms are taken into account. You might want to mention this to your neurologist. I have not seen where tongue fasciculations are a sign of Chiari.
572651 tn?1530999357 I was looking at the possibility of Lou Gehrig having something other than ALS thanks to a commnt from Red, and found this story. I hope you will take a moment to read it. http://www.chattanoogan.com/articles/article_189849.asp It's how we finish that counts in t he end.
189192 tn?1261341628 Nathan is my front runner also.. DH really loves loves loves Gehrig and I kinda like it to, but I can't get past the idea that there is a disease named after it.. I'm okay with Nathan Gehrig tho and I think DH might be okay with that too... i think it will also be good because jacob's middle name is Nolan, so then they would both have baseball middle names. I'm not a big baseball fan but DH is..
651681 tn?1384872629 I taken him to the hospital immediately and a CT Scan was done and they said to me he had a minor concussion and to observe him for 48 hours. So of course I did and was very scare. Could this incident triggered this condition that he has now? I would like to make an appt. with a doctor to have this test done.
Avatar n tn If your partner were suffering from heart disease would you feel the same way? If your partner were suffering from ALS (Lou Gehrig disease), would you feel the same way. Or cancer? The point is...
Avatar m tn s been a year since his last concussion and he is making slow progress, but progress. Still has mood swings, ADD, and sleeplessness, but has made nice gains. He went on a flight to Scottland to visit a friend and seemed fine while in Scottland, but seemed to have regressed in symptoms when he returned home. Mood swings returned significantly and his choices and behaviors reflect significant impairment of executive function ability.
Avatar m tn m male and I was the receiver. After the event, I learned that she has gum disease and it bleeds frequently. I don't know whether it was bleeding or not during the event. What is the risk of HIV transmission? Thanks.
Avatar f tn Each brain injury is unique and try to get some one who can listen to you and may be a concussion specialist if you can. I am even considering Stem Cell Therapy for which I have to travel outside U.S.A. Keep me posted if you can.
Avatar m tn I was involve in a very bad car accident 02/10 and have no memory of the actual wreck. the hospital deemed I have a severe concussion and then also diagnosed me with Post Concussion Syndrome. I am currently also experiencing back and neck problems as well as getting a collarbone checked out for a possible fracture. My question is does coffee effect concussion and PCS recovery. And how long does recovery generally take.
Avatar f tn Muscular twitching can be caused by Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also sometimes called Lou Gehrig disease. Neuropathy or damage to the nerve that leads to a muscle. Spinal muscular atrophy. Weak muscles (myopathy). Hate to lay it out that way, but that's a list I have. Now, you CAN also have twitching with anxiety, don't forget. But if you also fear MS, a neurologist would be the person to begin looking for that. Here are the signs of MS https://www.webmd.
Avatar n tn she has 2 children her age must be 35+ . she gave me blow job for 2 to 4 mins and after that i didnt meet her . will i get HIV or any other sexual disease.
Avatar n tn I have heard of people having problems after a concussion, so I definately would get yourself checked out, you could have damage to your head. I would also get your stomach checked, I have GERD (acid reflux disease) and it makes me feel constantly nauseaous and that 'hungry' feeling your tlking about, as well as my stomach aches pretty much 24/7, food usually hurts it more. Are you having any other symptoms or are you on any medications?
Avatar f tn I know the symptoms I have are a part of the concussion but they are bad (bec I already have the chiari symptoms) and it has been since Friday and I still feel HORRIBLE! I see a chiari specialist at the end of the month but in the mean time could this hitting my head on the wall possibly made things worse? (I did not have a ct for the concussion, the dr. just diagnosed me by my symptoms and what happened).
Avatar n tn Dear knothome, Amblyopia is a disease in which vision is impaired, the retina appears normal and the vision is not corrected by glasses or contact lenses. I would recommend an examination by an eyeMD or if you think may be related to the concussion, I would recommend a neuro-ophthalmologist. Dr. Feldman Sandy T. Feldman, M.D., M.S.
Avatar m tn your test at 16 weeks was RELIABLE and CONCLUSIVE. accept your status and move on with your life...you do NOT have hiv.
Avatar n tn From the wall street Journal... It's exciting and promising," said Dr. Paola Gehrig, a clinical instructor in the Division of Gynecologic Oncology at UNC-Chapel Hill who also practices at Moses Cone Health System in Greensboro. But like a number of other doctors, Gehrig is also concerned that Burlington-based LabCorp may be rushing OvaSure onto the market before it's fully vetted scientifically.
Avatar m tn Hi i tested negative at 12 weeks through a duo test,I have since read on the net ( stupid thing googling ) that auto immune disease could delay the detecting of the hiv virus, also I take creatine tablets for the gym, anti depresseants for my depression and ocd and blood pressure tablets, would any of these things affect my result at 12 weeks and do I need to get retested at 6 months
Avatar f tn At times a subdural hematoma develops slowly and may be missed on the first MRI. Also concussion can cause persisting headaches and should be allowed to slowly subside before active sports are considered. Injury to neck, to jaw bone, and even eyes should be considered. Get his eye sight also checked. May be the headaches are because he needs spectacles. -Take care!
Avatar f tn The impact of the ball caused the concussion, and the shape of his pupil is now oval. I took him to a pediatric opthamologist who did a thorough exam. He said there is no lasting damage other than the shape of the pupil, but he needed glasses. When he "recovered" from the concussion three weeks later, he tried to go back to baseball but could no longer judge the speed and distance of the ball. He had to quit. He has been moody and pesting ever since the concussion.

Avatar n tn Numbness on the front part of the thigh (not the sides) and down as far as just above the knee on BOTH LEGS. like a shot of novacaine in both legs....no sensation for the last couple of days.
Avatar f tn This can happen due to overuse of computers, work involving straining of neck, herniated disc, canal stenosis, bone disease, spondylosis, poor posture etc. In your case it could well be due to the neck injury and herniated discs. A MRI of the cervical spine and nerve conduction studies may be required. Please consult a neurologist. The treatment is to remove the compression.
Avatar f tn Though Asperger’s by it self will not prolong concussion, the diagnosis of concussion in Asperger’s is often overlooked and some other cause or the disease itself attributed to as a cause of symptoms post injury. Hence it is important to consult a neuro-psychiatrist. Hope this helps. Take care!
Avatar m tn "We get many questions about kissing and oral exposure and whether or not the presence of a cold sore, bites to the lip, gum disease or other wounds in or around the mouth changes the answer to the question. The answer is no. The data which define the absence of any risk of getting HIV through kissing, deep or otherwise has be generated through studies of thousand and thousands of persons, some of whom had cold cores, cuts, etc. There is no risk.

189192 tn?1261341628 30 pm, 4lbs 11 ozs and 19 inches long. He came out and started crying like good boy.. before they took him to NICU, I got to hold him for a pretty good while.. He was active, altert and responsive. I'm just so happy to be his mommy. He is in NICU and breathing on his own. The dr said we might try to feed him tomorrow.
