Common Questions and Answers about Concussion and loss of vision

concussion

Avatar f tn However, they told me the eye problems I am experiencing (doubled, blurry vision and drastic loss of vision) does not make sense from just having the cataracts. So they scanned the front and back of the eye, upon taking the photos they have now discovered fluid "pouches" in the macula of both of my eyes. This may be they reason I am experiencing doubled and blurry vision so rapidly.

Avatar n tn Concussion may present with the symptoms you are experiencing such as loss of consciousness, confusion, headache, nausea or vomiting, blurred vision, loss of short-term memory or perseverating. (ref: http://www.emedicinehealth.com/concussion/page2_em.htm#Concussion%20Symptoms) The symptoms may resolve after some time or may persists. After initial treatment, it is important to go to your follow-up appointments for evaluation and monitoring. Take care and keep us posted.
Avatar m tn My concussion occurred 37 days ago when I slipped and fell backwards hitting the back of my head on a turf surface. In terms of the concussion recovery, I've been working with a concussion therapist to employ the practices of slowly getting back into activities without provoking symptoms. Unfortunately, I haven't seen much progress and may even have my symptoms come on earlier. I believe that this is related to sleep and neck issues that began about 18-20 days into the recovery.
Avatar m tn This loss of vision in the peripheral visual field can be due to optic nerve damage caused by glaucoma, high internal eye pressure, retinal detachment, occlusion of blood supply as in eye stroke, optic neuritis, and optic nerve edema. Tunnel vision is also possible after a history of head injury, concussion, brain damage and stroke, though all these causes may not be applicable in your son's case. Do discuss this with your son's doctor. Take care!
Avatar f tn I have not had any vomiting, dizziness, loss of consciousness, complete loss of vision, vertigo etc. I’m just curious if you guys think that the nerves are potentially healing and that is what is causing this “tightness” in my head, or is because of the sudden degradation in my vision? My right eye sees 20/15 without squinting at all, and my left was as well prior to this. Am I out of the woods of fearing of a brain bleed?
Avatar m tn Delayed symptoms include depression, irritability, sleep disturbances, seizures, loss of smell etc. Injury to olfactory and lingual nerves of smell and taste could be a cause or it could be that nerves are in shock. Once swelling and contusion following the fall will subside some taste and smell may return. However, when this will happen is difficult to say. Your father should be shown to a neurologist once. Take care!
Avatar f tn Light sensitivity, trouble focusing at near, difficulty concentrating, blurred vision are part of the post concussion syndrome. Not every person has every symptom and not every clears at the same rate. If you need glasses for distance generally you are myopic or nearsighted. That is not due to concussion. You should be seen by an Eye MD ophthalmologist for a medical eye exam.
Avatar f tn After suffering a concussion April 17, 2008 I lost my sense of smell and taste. I was pushed off a 3 foot wall and knocked out for over a minute. I have had a CT scan and an MRI which show nothing wrong. But I still cannot smell or taste anything. Any suggestions?

1456881 tn?1285458554 What is very apparent is that you must get a complete eye checkup by an eye specialist and not just by an optometrist. This loss of vision in the peripheral visual field can be due to optic nerve damage caused by glaucoma, high internal eye pressure, retinal detachment, occlusion of blood supply as in eye stroke, optic neuritis, and optic nerve edema.
Avatar f tn A little over two months ago I had a concussion without the loss of consciousness. Nothing showed up on a ct scan. Ever since my vision has worsened, I have had horrible headaches, and today experienced the worst headache. I was vomitting and could not see straight. I also had tingling in my arms, hands, and feet. I also feel a numbness in my face and a strong pain in my neck.
Avatar m tn My skull is now slightly out of shape in a few areas; A ridge and dent on the top, a trench on the side and a big bump on the rear of skull (I know this definitively because I have been bald for years and shave my head a couple of times per week). It seems like the game "Whack a Mole" where one spot was pushed in so other areas pushed out? Also, I can now put my finger in the trench between the two skull plates on the side in question but not on the opposite side.
Avatar f tn You need to consult a neurologist as soon as possible or go to an emergency room and get evaluated for head injury and concussion. You may also need a MRI of the brain. The headaches could just be due to the hit or due to some bleed (that caused the swelling) or due to just a superficial injury to scalp. It cal also be due to bead injury that goes deeper into the brain.
Avatar m tn If you develop nausea, vomiting, excess sleep, severe headache, difficulty in walking and balance, tremors, seizures, vision problems, ringing in ears etc then consult a doctor immediately. These symptoms develop if there is a brain injury or bleed. Otherwise this pressure will go in a few days. However, it is important to get a medical evaluation. So please consult your doctor once. Take care!
Avatar f tn re supposed to take it easy after a concussion and orgasm raises your BP and all. Most of my symptoms of the concussion have gone away, aside from double vision. Thoughts?
Avatar m tn Unresolved within a limited window, such swelling can lead to the death of brain cells and parts of the brain such as the pituitary and hypothalamus. The time to death of the cells is referred to as the warm ischemic time. There is no evidence whatsoever that a concussion will make anyone smarter. There may or may not be a degradtion in your cognition, memory and reasoning. The human brain is very resilient.
Avatar f tn I have all of the most commonCommon coldsymptoms such as fatigue, nausea, migrains, mood swings, difficulty concentrating and remembering, but I also loss blocks of time, I pass out, and often experience some numbnessNumbness and tinglingon one side of my body. Could I have something other than Post Concussion Syndrome, and if so what?
Avatar n tn Anyway, I hit the left side of my head on the door before the side air bags went off and suffered from a blow to the head and a slight concussion. Since that accident, I have had severe eye issues including pain behind my left eye, headaches that leave me irritable everyday, sensitivity to light, occasional blurred vision and spots. I had gone to my Opthalmolgists who diagnosed me with Optic-neuritis.
Avatar n tn d. Most people lose memories just before the incident of concussion or loss of consciousness because the event that results in them losing consciousness - the punch to the head etc - interrupts how the brain stores memories. The brain needs to pay attention to something, hold it in short term memory, link it to meaningful past experiences and then store it in long term memory to lay down a memory.
Avatar n tn Concussions should be accompanied by a loss of consciousness during the event and this happens when the brain shuts off to protect itself after the trauma. Another condition which may be more serious is called contusion. Those who had severe head trauma who do not lose consciousness, may in fact have contusion that will manifest with headaches, blurred vision, and increased sleeping time a few days later.
Avatar f tn It would be amazing if a doctor were able to help me, and give me solutions. I am to afraid to go to one of my local doctors, because i am very afraid of the result i might get. Please help me. I also find it difficult to think intensely about a single topic...
Avatar f tn I used to be calm and happy, and now I get very easily irritated, and angry at small things. I know part of the irritability is due to the frustrations of forgetting everything, and the constant pain I experience in my neck and back, but it is worse than it should be. I don't know what to do about my problems. Will my memory of that night ever come back?
Avatar f tn Symptoms of a concussion include memory loss, headaches or blurry vision, nausea, inability to stand or walk or having coordination and balance problems. There is an entity of post concussive syndrome where there is inability to think and headaches, changes in sleep patterns and personality etc. This needs to be evaluated clinically, CT/MRI scan brain needs to be done to rule out. Take care.
Avatar n tn s field of vision becam wavy, first starting in the periphery and then the whole field. It did not accompany a headache or loss of vision. It cleared eventually and has been fine for last few hours. I take concerta 54mg, zyrtec and vitamins everyday. Who should I see? I have also been having sinus pressure and tooth pain (thought from pollen) over last few weeks- not sure if it's related. It was very scary and I want to see the appropriate md asap. Thanks!
