concussion

Avatar n tn There are a couple of practical things emergency staff do when assessing the degree of head trauma a person has had following concussion - one is called GSC scale - where they ask a series of questions that reveal how orientated you are - goes up to 15. &/15 is severe, above 13 is mild and the middle scores are moderate. They usually do this asap after losing consciousness and then repeat it until you have no problems with the answers.
Avatar m tn Headache, confusion, memory loss, dizziness, nausea vomiting, slurred speech and fatigue are common. Delayed symptoms include depression, irritability, sleep disturbances, seizures, loss of smell etc. Injury to olfactory and lingual nerves of smell and taste could be a cause or it could be that nerves are in shock. Once swelling and contusion following the fall will subside some taste and smell may return. However, when this will happen is difficult to say.
Avatar n tn I took a very serious head injury (concusion) playing rugby nearly 2 and a half months ago and have no recolection of the event as i have memory loss of the injury occuring.
Avatar f tn Im still suffering from memory loss, focus and concentration issues, attention problems, and a constant headache. How long should or could this last?? If relevant, I'm 38.
Avatar f tn I used to be calm and happy, and now I get very easily irritated, and angry at small things. I know part of the irritability is due to the frustrations of forgetting everything, and the constant pain I experience in my neck and back, but it is worse than it should be. I don't know what to do about my problems. Will my memory of that night ever come back?
Avatar m tn Unresolved within a limited window, such swelling can lead to the death of brain cells and parts of the brain such as the pituitary and hypothalamus. The time to death of the cells is referred to as the warm ischemic time. There is no evidence whatsoever that a concussion will make anyone smarter. There may or may not be a degradtion in your cognition, memory and reasoning. The human brain is very resilient.
Avatar f tn In this condition, additional medicines like benzodiazepines (xanax) can lead to a transient phase of disorientation and short term anterograde memory loss. The events happening after the event are forgotten. This is a known phenomenon. So, if you are in trouble from the police (which I hope you are not), this is your defense. Transient global amnesia is a term used some times for such a condition.
Avatar f tn I play softball in college and about 3 weeks ago i was hit in the head with a bat right above my left ear. My coach gave me a concussion test and my head was hurting pretty bad throughout the day. The next day it wasnt bothering me too bad so I didnt go to the doctor to see if i did have a concussion. Well ever since that weekend, i have pressure headaches on the right side of my head.
Avatar m tn Turns out I have Post Concussion Syndrome (diagnosed at 11 months) and I still have major memory and other issues 14 months later.
Avatar n tn I am sorry to hear about your husband. The memory loss could just be due to concussion which at times persists for years and all of a sudden disappears and the person remembers everything. This does not have any long term complications. The person just needs support from family members and has to learn to live with the memory loss. Memory loss is also a common symptom of frontal lobe injury. Damage to the frontal lobe of the brain causes frontal encephalomalacia.
Avatar n tn s worth as a child I suffered a severe concussion with loss of consciousness and a fractured skull and recovered completely with no loss of mental function.
Avatar n tn it is possible to instantly lose two days of memory after having a minor concussion with nothing showing up on a CT scan?
Avatar m tn A doctor generally looks for focal neurological or generalized neurological symptoms that would show there is a pressure on brain somewhere. In absence of these symptoms and based on the history a diagnosis of concussion is given. If concussion is severe, and there is underlying brain injury, then yes, even death can occur. Hope this helps! Take care!
Avatar f tn I suffered a concussion 4 months ago when I fell during a parade with my high school band. My mom took me to the ER and I was diagnosed with a concussion. I had a CT scan and nothing was out of the ordinary, and it seemed to just be a mild concussion. 4 months later, I'm still having issues. I'm a junior in high school and concentration and memory issues made me switch out of all of my honors classes into regular ones and drop both math and science completely.
Avatar f tn This is going to be a long story.. Back on the 9th of June, a small Roku remote landed on my head, later on that day I was in the shower and I patted my head with the bottom of my wrist in the same area the remote landed to straighten my hair out. I did experience nausea and a few headaches and even some memory loss here and there, but I'm not totally sure if that had anything to do with the remote landing on my head or my patting my head.
Avatar n tn There could be inflammation of the brain tissue causing headache and nausea.Common symptoms of mild brain injury may include headache and the sensation of spinning or light-headedness. Some people also may have mild confusion, nausea, and, more commonly in children, vomiting. Refer http://www.merck.com/mmhe/sec06/ch087/ch087a.
Avatar f tn Hello, I'm trying to figure out what happened after a series of concussions I suffered over the summer (late July). Since none of my symptoms seem to line up with anything, it would be great if you could help. Over the summer I had two concussions one day apart for each other. The first was a blow to the front of my head and I was unconscious for 3 1/2 hours. The second was a blow to the back of my head, were I was dizzy immediately afterwards (then it went away).
Avatar f tn What could be the cause of the memory loss, and my eyes just being open but I was out cold, also I feel heavy pressure on the back of my head and my neck hurts. Should I see a doctor or it's nothing?
Avatar m tn There have been instances of people walking to a doctor with a complaint of head injury, or doing some task after brain injury and later having no recollection of it. People ted to lose the memory of a time just or shortly after the blow to the head. Hope this helps. Take care!
Avatar f tn Symptoms are variable including dizziness, fatigue, irritability, anxiety, insomnia, loss of concentration and memory, light and noise sensitivity, headache varying from a tension type to cluster headaches. You need to consult a neurologist immediately. no single test can prove the syndrome and the doctor may ask for a MRI scan to detect brain abnormalities, ear pathologies need to be ruled out since a lot of dizziness is there and psychiatrist to rule out anxiety and depression.
Avatar n tn If so, can you tell me what type of tasks doctor asked to patient to perform and how can they assess memory loss? In addition, can you explain the theory behind these tests?
Avatar f tn I thought nothing of it and went home. Now I wake up everyday with a headache, pain in my neck and feeling dizzy. As the day progresses the pain and dizziness go away, but cycle starts again after I've woken up. Should I be worried?
Avatar f tn Again there are cases where it is considered Concussion and suffered from memory loss, executive functioning etc., MRIs/CT scans can only show gross injuries and not at ultra-microscopic level. You can get an MRI and find out if you have any of that but it won't give how many lost. Just look out for symptoms and if there is nothing noticeable you just keep moving on.
Avatar f tn closed head injury hospitalized, off balance, memory and could not walk correct hit right side of head near corner of eye 2nd concussion car accident trauma force of snapping head back of head rest
Avatar f tn s better to catch it, but it could be something as simple as a deficiency you are experiencing, promoting memory loss. Stress can also play a huge role in our lives and on our bodies. Just get checked out to be safe.
