Concussion and its effects

Common Questions and Answers about Concussion and its effects

concussion

Avatar m tn Usually people recover from a concussion without any residual effects. Some people may manifest the symptoms longer and the condition is termed as post concussion syndrome. Repeated concussions are known to double the risk. After a concussion, the levels of brain chemicals are altered. It usually takes about a week for these levels to stabilize again. However, the time it takes to recover from a concussion is variable, so avoid all strenuous activity till complete recovery.
Avatar n tn Hi, I am an 18 year old male who is still suffering from the effects of multiple concussions in high school. I had one my junior year, which was not too serious, and the effects of it soon cleared up. However, the next year, I received a violent blow to the head (football again) in which my mouthpiece wasn't in correctly. I was wearing a revolution helmet, the supposedly concussion proof helmets, which cracked all the way down the side from where I got hit.
Avatar f tn I had a concussion about two years ago maybe three years (I hit the front left side of my head on the car door). I seen stars, I was dizzy, confussed and nauseated it was horrible. I never sought medical treatment for it but the soon after I noticed a lot of changes in me. My ability to think clearly and problem solve was greatly diminished.
Avatar f tn Probably you had a concussion and having Post Concussion effects. You can consult a Neuro-Otologist and Neurologist and see if you have any inner ear issues. Reason for dizziness can be very many. Get an MRI done to be safe.
Avatar f tn I have taken many MRIs (with and without contrast) after my mild Traumatic Brain Injury and diagnosed with Post Concussion Syndrome. Faced no problems with contrast. Very rarely I heard people cannot tolerate the contrast. Some labs do a Creatine (?) test before giving contrast. You can ask your lab about that. I have been suffering with Post Concussion Syndrome for 2+ years now. Headaches, nausea, dizziness, fatigue etc., and my symptoms got worse only after 5 weeks.
Avatar n tn I have a serious concussion and I have strained my trapiuses muscle... I also have osgood schlatters in one leg and I can't run with out getting dizzy due to the concussion... I really need to work out ... I have been out for a month ... Please and thank you !
Avatar m tn A doctor generally looks for focal neurological or generalized neurological symptoms that would show there is a pressure on brain somewhere. In absence of these symptoms and based on the history a diagnosis of concussion is given. If concussion is severe, and there is underlying brain injury, then yes, even death can occur. Hope this helps! Take care!
Avatar m tn My concussion occurred 37 days ago when I slipped and fell backwards hitting the back of my head on a turf surface. In terms of the concussion recovery, I've been working with a concussion therapist to employ the practices of slowly getting back into activities without provoking symptoms. Unfortunately, I haven't seen much progress and may even have my symptoms come on earlier. I believe that this is related to sleep and neck issues that began about 18-20 days into the recovery.
Avatar f tn My Daughter is 17 and got a concussion almost a year ago. She starting passing out 5 days later. She passes about 5 days a week with no warning or symptoms beforehand. She also has lots of nausea, dizzyness, fatigue, headaches, loss of appetite, and sometimes shaky hands. We have had multiple MRI's, MRA, CT scans, full cardio work ups several times including tilt table tests, heart monitor, stress test, ultra sounds of kidneys, bladder and ovaries, blood work. All coming back normal.
Avatar m tn I was injured in a rocket explosion in Baghdad 4 months ago. I was knocked out for a few seconds and suffered a head concussion. Since coming back home, I started to have migraine like headaches along with other post mTBI symptoms (dizziness, cognative problems, etc). Anyway, my neurologist is treating me currently with 25mg Nortriptyline and 25mg Topamax at night. They have helped (more so the Topamax). The first week and a half I noticed absolutely no side effects of the Topamax.
17075101 tn?1453495395 I had a really bad headache wednesday evening and thought it was just due to the hangover but now its friday and I still have a headache. Its quite bad, yesterday it was more like a migraine and today its slightly better but still pretty bad. Why is this and is this normal.
Avatar f tn Her pediatrician has said that she can suffer from side effects for a year or so. Is this true? She is having a lot of pain and pressure in the area of the scarring. I am really starting to get worried. I cannot get a doctor to do any scans to check her out. Am I just an overworring mom or is there something to this?
Avatar f tn There are gradations of concussion, and after the fact there is no way to compare and contrast the etiology. Just because a person has a "concussion" it does not mean they will develop seizures.
Avatar n tn On Jan 14/09, I took a bad spill down 13 hardwood stairs, going unconcscious, breaking my nose and getting stitches between by eyes. I had a pretty severe concussion, but after a couple weeks bedrest I was up and running fine. About a month after the accident, I woke up feeling off. I had extreme vertigo and tightness in my head. I figured I'd sleep it off but it has not gone away. My symptoms are consantly changing but none the less, scaring me.
Avatar m tn m feeling a little depressed and also mood swings. Do you think this is from the concussion? And if so, if I got an MRI would it show anything?
Avatar f tn Not sure if this is a side effects of the three concussion I`ve experienced this summer or something else. For about two months I have been experiencing pain on my head about an inch behind my right ear. At first I`d wake up feeling like my husband had accidently punched me in the head during the night. And I noticed that my hearing was diminished in that ear. The ear wax is more watery and at times looks a little greenish with the yellow.
Avatar n tn She then attempted to vomit unsuccesfully many times before fading in and out of concsiousness. Is that concussion or is it more serious??
Avatar f tn Thank you so much for the input at least it gives me another way to go no the doctors never mentioned the post concussion syndrome but I'll check into it however its not just high school football to him its his college choice on the line unfortunatly but his health is more important to me we will see what I can figure out thanks again.
Avatar m tn Please help as I am really getting fed up and tired of feeling rough now and cant stop myself worrying that its something worse, I have a fiancée and 3 yr old daughter and feel really guilty as I am not the usual me and feel guilty for that. The headaches are not all the time, I have a numb pressure with the odd sharp pain, mainly around the point I banged my head and around the ears and behind my eyes.
Avatar f tn Symptoms had increased over time, but the pressure, migraines, and sensitivity to certain sounds were almost unbearable. I moved to a city with a concussion specialist and have started Amantadine for my initial treatment. Pressure is gone while on the med, migraines reduced, clarity and organization in my thoughts, no irritability or sensitivity to sounds. It has dramatically improved the quality of my life! Best wishes!
Avatar m tn You could possibly dealing with what is called Post-concussion syndrome. If that is the case from my understanding the effects can last up to a year or more. Look it up and talk with your neurologist to see if this is a possibility.
Avatar f tn I know the symptoms I have are a part of the concussion but they are bad (bec I already have the chiari symptoms) and it has been since Friday and I still feel HORRIBLE! I see a chiari specialist at the end of the month but in the mean time could this hitting my head on the wall possibly made things worse? (I did not have a ct for the concussion, the dr. just diagnosed me by my symptoms and what happened).
Avatar m tn I'm currently suffering from post concussion syndrome following a bad MVA last June. As a result of the accident I've experienced blurred/double vision and convergence issues. I recently saw a neurological ophthalmologist who prescribed me lenses with a prism. Should the effects of the prism be felt immediate or does it take time for my eyes to adjust? I've had the glasses for 3 days now and not only have they not helped, but I feel like my vision has worsened.
Avatar m tn I sustained a minor concussion three weeks ago, and though my logical and linguistic faculties seemed to return to normal within a couple days, I have had persistent feelings of pressure and weakness in my head, though these have markedly diminished within the past week. At present, I have recovered enough that I am able to use the computer (with the monitor at low brightness) for simple tasks like reading and writing emails.
Avatar m tn s been a year since his last concussion and he is making slow progress, but progress. Still has mood swings, ADD, and sleeplessness, but has made nice gains. He went on a flight to Scottland to visit a friend and seemed fine while in Scottland, but seemed to have regressed in symptoms when he returned home. Mood swings returned significantly and his choices and behaviors reflect significant impairment of executive function ability.
