Common Questions and Answers about Concussion and exercise

concussion

Avatar f tn A month ago I was in a bad car accident. My car flipped and I hit my head going unconscious. So obviously I had a concussion. I'm healing and have been trying to decide which exercise would be the best? I've belonged to a gym since Oct. but am just concerned to start exercising again. My dr says I need to treat myself as if I have a concussion for at least a year, or while symptoms last. I get headaches, dizziness, sometimes very mild forgetfulness.

Avatar m tn , which you can find under the search feature here and I and others may be able to help and support you since I've also been in a similar situation - a concussion falls under this category. It takes time, and can be frustrating at times, and sometimes some symptoms (especially cognitive) go unrecognized. In the meantime, I hope you feel better and know that we are here to support you and educate you on how to cope with this.
Avatar f tn How long after a concussion is it normal to still be feeling nauseous and have difficulty with memory, balance etc. I got hit in the face with a softball 11 days ago and am still nauseous. Cannot stand on one leg with eyes closed, and have forgotten things like PIN numbers, passwords etc. is it too soon to expect these symptoms to be gone, or should I go back to the drs. I did also break my nose, which was realigned under local anaesthetic 6 days ago. No LOC. No actual vomiting.
Avatar n tn https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/post-concussion-syndrome/symptoms-causes/syc-20353352 Make sure to tell the doctor about all of the workouts you're doing, to make sure you're not perpetuating the problem by doing a specific exercise. Hope you start to improve!
Avatar m tn Yes,as far as I remember, we done neck exercise.(it was hanging our neck and bringing counting on up and down to the edge of sthg like a big table ) But it was few days before, probably 2-3 days prior to the symptoms. The symptoms had disappeared after few days and came again after 25 days and is persistant. To my greater surprise, performing the same exercise once again, made me feel better. I will go through the research you had kindly mentioned.
Avatar n tn We tried chiro,PT(exercise+stretching), meds and he got worse. missed 1xmonth of school. I found a PT who combines cranial-sacral/soft tissue and other standard PT regimens(she had training for concussion injuries) and he improved w/ each visit.
Avatar m tn 12 days ago, he was doing some sprint events, got dizzy and vomited. He gets regular exercise with soccer and basketball so we didn't think much beyond it. We thought he may just be sick but since then, he's had a headache, dizziness, and fatigue for 12 days. A visit to his GP 5 days ago indicated he may have a slight ear infection so he was prescribed a z-pack, but his symptoms have gotten worse.
Avatar m tn I was involve in a very bad car accident 02/10 and have no memory of the actual wreck. the hospital deemed I have a severe concussion and then also diagnosed me with Post Concussion Syndrome. I am currently also experiencing back and neck problems as well as getting a collarbone checked out for a possible fracture. My question is does coffee effect concussion and PCS recovery. And how long does recovery generally take.
Avatar m tn it has shown no patern or relation to exercise or lack of exercise at this point.in my recent history i recieved a concussion and cervical spinal strain but the chiropractor, doctor, and neurologist dont seem to find a relation to this.i was also taking medication but havent taken any in about a month and a half.i was taking vicoden, flexeral, methocabanol, naproxen, and zofran.
Avatar m tn Hey. I suffered a mild concussion in january 2010 and am still suffering w PCS. I too have vision problems. More like just harlot focus and my eyes don't move well with my head movements. I have been outbid any physical activity since the incident. How are you doing now?
Avatar m tn I had a mild Traumatic Brain Injury and severe concussion 1 year 8 months ago. Post Concussion Syndrome followed after that and that is what probably your cousin's doctor call it. I have several symptoms and the worst is dizziness, heavy headed and fatigue. Been to many therapies, meds and no help. Right now I am trying some PT for my neck which seems to be causing my dizziness. I don't know and no one knows including specialists. It is tough to diagnose dizziness.
Avatar f tn Your nightmares are probably related to your concussion and the sexual attack as psychological trauma are commonly at the bottom of the. Have you considered getting some deep psychotherapy? Melatonin might be tricky as it has been found to also increase stress hormones and is involved in inflammation and metabolic disturbances (see http://www.supplements-and-health.com/tryptophan-side-effects.html ).
Avatar f tn I know the symptoms I have are a part of the concussion but they are bad (bec I already have the chiari symptoms) and it has been since Friday and I still feel HORRIBLE! I see a chiari specialist at the end of the month but in the mean time could this hitting my head on the wall possibly made things worse? (I did not have a ct for the concussion, the dr. just diagnosed me by my symptoms and what happened).
10506901 tn?1431350757 However due to the circumstance I highly doubt what happened caused a concussion. I had a migraine while training at a martial arts gym and when the migraine symptoms lasted for 3 weeks I was diagnosed with concussion. The reason I do not think it is a concussion was because the only thing that could have caused it was me falling forward and stopping myself with my arms and it sort of jolted my body.
Avatar f tn I suffered a concussion on Jan. 3rd and had just a bad headache,a little dizziness and a lump on the back of my head. Then a few days to a week the dizziness got alot worse, i became unsteady on my feet, developed ringing in my ears, nausea and the headache got worse. I've had an MRI and CT Scan and both were fine. Now I'm having a little problem with remembering names and other little things, plus I've noticed that loud noises and bright lights seem to bother me too.
Avatar m tn I am in the ARMY and in mid February I passed out while doing PT. Everyone who saw it said my legs didn't cave they locked and I ended up falling straight backwards. I hit my head and ended up with a skull fracture, and bruising and bleeding on the brain. Before I passed out my chest felt like it was on fire and then I got light headed and the next thing I knew I was sitting up from the floor. Now everytime I get worked up I feel like I am going to pass out.
Avatar m tn s been a year since his last concussion and he is making slow progress, but progress. Still has mood swings, ADD, and sleeplessness, but has made nice gains. He went on a flight to Scottland to visit a friend and seemed fine while in Scottland, but seemed to have regressed in symptoms when he returned home. Mood swings returned significantly and his choices and behaviors reflect significant impairment of executive function ability.
868804 tn?1239583770 About three years ago I had a concussion in a soccer game. I was knocked unconscious, but got up and managed to play the second half of the game. (big mistake) After the game I felt very sick and when my mom came to pick me up she took me to the hospital right away. The doctors said i had a concussion and gave my mom **** for letting me play the second half. I had a couple more concussions and ended up taking a full year off of all physical activity, as directed by a neurologist.
Avatar f tn The impact of the ball caused the concussion, and the shape of his pupil is now oval. I took him to a pediatric opthamologist who did a thorough exam. He said there is no lasting damage other than the shape of the pupil, but he needed glasses. When he "recovered" from the concussion three weeks later, he tried to go back to baseball but could no longer judge the speed and distance of the ball. He had to quit. He has been moody and pesting ever since the concussion.
Avatar f tn Each brain injury is unique and try to get some one who can listen to you and may be a concussion specialist if you can. I am even considering Stem Cell Therapy for which I have to travel outside U.S.A. Keep me posted if you can.
Avatar f tn Probably you had a concussion and having Post Concussion effects. You can consult a Neuro-Otologist and Neurologist and see if you have any inner ear issues. Reason for dizziness can be very many. Get an MRI done to be safe.
Avatar m tn This has rendered him completely inactive, and he has not been able to exercise, go to college, or even finish high school. He is 20 now, and his headaches have been worse for around 2 1/2 years. He got a serious concussion when he was 14, and a less serious one when he was 16. There is a benign tumor/lesion in his right temple that our doctors have dismissed. Removal would be risky as the lesion is very near the speech ares of the brain. His headaches occur in both temples.
Avatar f tn The C1 was fractured in three places and he had a severe concussion concussion. Since then he’s had excessive saliva resulting in excessive coughing. He’s coughing several times a minute. Is there any connection between brain trauma and excessive saliva?
4403156 tn?1354189853 Started feeling mildly nauseated and off-balance, light-headed, and foggy in April. Tinnitus at bedtime, when everything was quiet. I also felt my left ear 'draining' at times, like there was water in my ear, but there was no fluid in my ear. Exercise, even taking a walk, made me feel sick. I also experienced some vertigo.
