Common Questions and Answers about Concussion and dizziness

concussion

Avatar f tn post concussion syndrome is a complex disorder with a combination of symptoms like headaches and dizziness lasting for a few weeks and at times months after the injury that caused by concussion. Concussion is a mild traumatic brain injury usually occurring after a blow to the head. Loss of consciousness isn’t required for a diagnosis of concussion or post concussion syndrome. Post concussion syndrome occurs within first 7 to 10 days and until 3 months.
Avatar n tn I hit my head 2 days ago and now I have been getting headaches, dizziness and nausea. The headache is mostly where I hit my head. While I was driving I experienced a tingling sensation through both of my arms and hands and felt weak.
Avatar f tn Post-concussive symptoms may include headache, dizziness, memory challenges, difficulties with concentration, fatigue, depression, anxiety, and increased or decrease in sleep. They can persist for weeks after the concussion. So the dizziness and mild nausea you are describing can certainly fit with a mild concussion. One thing to worry about after any sort of trauma to the head or neck is a dissection: a small tear in the blood vessels that travel up the neck to the brain.
Avatar f tn Probably you had a concussion and having Post Concussion effects. You can consult a Neuro-Otologist and Neurologist and see if you have any inner ear issues. Reason for dizziness can be very many. Get an MRI done to be safe.
Avatar n tn My son is a teacher (27 years) old...who has been suffering from Post Traumatic Concussion for more than 3 months. He has returned to teaching in November, but still suffers daily from headaches, sometimes dizziness, and certainly drained & tired by the end of the day. We have paid for absolute full medical testing to be sure there are no other underlying causes, and so far, nothing has come up. He also had a CTScan which also came up OK.
Avatar f tn I'm 38 and according to my MD I'm in great shape as far as heart, BP etc. Few months ago I went eye doc concerning bad headaches when I use computer. They said I needed glasses. I'm a police officer so Ita hard to wear eyeglasses. So I got contacts. They felt fine in my eyes but I get lightheaded and dizzy non stop especially if I'm concentrating on something (grocery shopping for example) so after 2 weeks I stop wearing them.
Avatar f tn I had a concussion a little over 2 weeks ago, and I had the typical signs afterwards..headache, nausea, tiredness, etc. I thought I was feeling a little bit better but then it just got worse and worse. Now I can't concentrate or focus (I'm a college student and 50 minute lectures were no problem for me, but now after 10 minutes my mind is gone..and that's extremely problematic).
Avatar f tn I went snowboarding yesterday and hit my head twice, hard and now have been having headaches, dizziness and sleepiness. I do not think I have a concussion because my pupils still dilate. I'm not sure whats going on but I need to know if it is serious or not since I play hockey and I don't want to say anything until I have had a second opinion.
Avatar f tn Yesterday I suffered mild blow to the head. I have hit my head many times before, much harder than yesterday and yet, I've never experienced any symptoms that might be indicative of concussion. Yesterday, however, I felt a bit dizzy for a few minutes immediately after having been hit. Also, 15 minutes following the blow, I started to feel a bit nauseated.
Avatar m tn I had a mild Traumatic Brain Injury and severe concussion 1 year 8 months ago. Post Concussion Syndrome followed after that and that is what probably your cousin's doctor call it. I have several symptoms and the worst is dizziness, heavy headed and fatigue. Been to many therapies, meds and no help. Right now I am trying some PT for my neck which seems to be causing my dizziness. I don't know and no one knows including specialists. It is tough to diagnose dizziness.
Avatar f tn You may be suffering from Post Concussion Syndrome and there is no specific treatment but there are several therapies/treatment you can try but nothing is guaranteed. I had something similar to yours (bleeding on the brain after a head injury) a year and 7 months ago and still suffering from constant dizziness, fatigue etc., Dizziness is the tough one for me too. I still cannot go to mall or handle stores and mostly home bound.
Avatar f tn Each brain injury is unique and try to get some one who can listen to you and may be a concussion specialist if you can. I am even considering Stem Cell Therapy for which I have to travel outside U.S.A. Keep me posted if you can.
Avatar m tn This condition is a complex disorder in which a combination of post-concussion symptoms like headaches, tinnitus and dizziness are experienced. There are no specific treatment for post-concussion syndrome but treatment for the individual symptoms you experience is made by your doctor. Regular follow-up with your doctor is highly recommended. Take care and regards.
Avatar m tn Headache, confusion, memory loss, dizziness, nausea vomiting, slurred speech and fatigue are common. Delayed symptoms include depression, irritability, sleep disturbances, seizures, loss of smell etc. Injury to olfactory and lingual nerves of smell and taste could be a cause or it could be that nerves are in shock. Once swelling and contusion following the fall will subside some taste and smell may return. However, when this will happen is difficult to say.
Avatar m tn Headache, confusion, memory loss, dizziness, nausea vomiting, slurred speech and fatigue are common. Delayed symptoms include depression, irritability, sleep disturbances, seizures, loss of smell etc. A doctor generally looks for focal neurological or generalized neurological symptoms that would show there is a pressure on brain somewhere. In absence of these symptoms and based on the history a diagnosis of concussion is given.
Avatar n tn Hello, a couple months ago i got hit on the head with a metal pole when helping somebody move.. I was fine for a week after.. then started to experience vertigo and dizziness when i sit up from laying down in bed.. went to a hospital got a catscan and the doc said she thinks its a mild concussion.. now 4 months later after i sit up from laying down im feeling dizzy, not as bad as before but still feeling the dizziness for about 15 seconds...
Avatar m tn 10 days ago I suffered a concussion due to a fall after fainting. We don't know how long I was unconscious (I was alone), but it was no more than 10-15 minutes. I was unable to remember anything regarding the actual injury (i.e. where I hit the back of my head) or my trip to the hospital and the ER until about an hour before I was discharged. I 'lost" about 3 hours in total.
Avatar n tn I fell backwards 1 month ago, suffered a concussion, and have lost my sense of taste and smell. I have learned that this is caused by nerve damage. I am also lightheaded and my ears are somewhat plugged(ear pressure). I was wondering how long a nerve takes to heal itself, or does it? Is the dizziness a result of the injury or a seperate issue?
Avatar m tn The other night while we were driving home at about 65 miles per hour, we had to stop almost immediately due to an elk standing in the road. Starting the next day, I've had concussion symptoms (headache/dizziness/fatigue/sleepiness/mental fatigue/brain fog/difficulty concentrating/feeling out of it). I did not hit my head, but I did sort of brace it/try to hold it in place while we stopped. Is it possible to get a concussion just from slamming on the brakes at 65 miles per hour?
Avatar f tn My Daughter is 17 and got a concussion almost a year ago. She starting passing out 5 days later. She passes about 5 days a week with no warning or symptoms beforehand. She also has lots of nausea, dizzyness, fatigue, headaches, loss of appetite, and sometimes shaky hands. We have had multiple MRI's, MRA, CT scans, full cardio work ups several times including tilt table tests, heart monitor, stress test, ultra sounds of kidneys, bladder and ovaries, blood work. All coming back normal.
1980327 tn?1326248976 Yes, completely normal for a concussion. Your symptoms can last up to 6 months. The dizziness while laying and turning over is most common and will last the longest.
Avatar m tn To whom it may concern, I am currently living in Antwerp and, three nights ago, while having fun with my friends, I got very drunk, lost balance and banged my head against a wall. I didn't lose conscienciousness, although my memories of the event are blurry, probably more due to alcohol, although it could have been a mixture of both. The next morning I woke up with an awful hangover and just stayed resting at home.
Avatar f tn A month ago I was in a bad car accident. My car flipped and I hit my head going unconscious. So obviously I had a concussion. I'm healing and have been trying to decide which exercise would be the best? I've belonged to a gym since Oct. but am just concerned to start exercising again. My dr says I need to treat myself as if I have a concussion for at least a year, or while symptoms last. I get headaches, dizziness, sometimes very mild forgetfulness.
Avatar n tn Hi, Any concussion that causes loss of consciousness, slurred speech, nausea and vomiting, headache, dizziness, incoordination, loss of balance all or one of these symptoms should be evaluated by a doctor. The results of a physical and neurologiocal exam will help in deciding if a CT scan needs to be done or not.
Avatar f tn I have taken many MRIs (with and without contrast) after my mild Traumatic Brain Injury and diagnosed with Post Concussion Syndrome. Faced no problems with contrast. Very rarely I heard people cannot tolerate the contrast. Some labs do a Creatine (?) test before giving contrast. You can ask your lab about that. I have been suffering with Post Concussion Syndrome for 2+ years now. Headaches, nausea, dizziness, fatigue etc., and my symptoms got worse only after 5 weeks.
Avatar f tn Hi guys! I have had a variety of problems with my vision over the last month. Decreased vision(mainly at night or in dimmer rooms), sensitivity to really bright lights and periodic blurriness. I also woke up one morning with an ocular migraine aura( went awat after 10 mins). I get pain in my eyes and above them as well. I also have had a headache daily for the last month. The headaches vary in severity and are typically on my forehead area and on one side of my head.
