Concussion and contusion

Common Questions and Answers about Concussion and contusion

concussion

Avatar n tn I do not have any sort of cognitive issues though. Could this be a concussion? I do get migraines, and this headache does feel a bit like a migraine, but I am worried because I did hit my head. Should I be concerned? I do not feel awful right now, other than the headache. Thanks!
Avatar m tn Once swelling and contusion following the fall will subside some taste and smell may return. However, when this will happen is difficult to say. Your father should be shown to a neurologist once. Take care!
Avatar f tn the hospital said that I had a chest contusion, concussion, and strain muscle in my back and neck. Now my abdomen is hurting, and I am bleeding black blood.what does this mean.
Avatar n tn There could be Cerebral contusion or concussion . Please go for a CT scan and MRI of brain and consult a neurologist for the examination , diagnosis and management . Hope this helps you . Take care and regards !
Avatar m tn I also hit the back of my head and had a severe concussion and brain contusion (bruising of brain) 1 year 10 months ago and still suffering with 24/7 dizziness, stuffy head, ringing in ears etc., When it comes to Post concussion syndrome it is really a collections of many many symptoms and confusing. You are only 3 weeks away so it may be too early to call it and most people recover within few weeks or months. I am the unlucky one.
Avatar n tn If the head injury is serious there can be a tinkling sensation due to a head and neck injury...symptoms of a concussion can be subtle and may not be immediately apparent. Symptoms and that includes a headache can last for days, weeks or even longer. You may want to see a doctor depending on the severity of a blow to the head that can cause a blood clot.
Avatar f tn G'day. I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the right area-don't know where else to put it. I've had a concussion for about 9 days now with "usual, mild-average" symptoms. The last couple days have been like the first couple days, cannot rest my head at night from the pain, taking two 650 mg Tylenols when I think of it, also seem more confused & forgetful (before major loss of sleep). The last 48 hrs. I've slept for 40 min's.
Avatar f tn I have contusion and concussion. I know when inflammation is coming on in my head or that it feels like it. I was told to take only "Tylenol" for inflammation of the head and Ibuprofen for Inflammation in the body, as told by my physician. And in minutes it seems to improve. and I know that after physical work such as lifting or ironing, lately I get nausea and dizziness as the result. Be careful.
Avatar m tn Yes, a TBI can cause loss of taste and smell. This can be a part of concussion. If this is so, there is a chance of recovery once the effects of concussion wear off, which may take a few years at times. Also the loss of smell could be due to injury to the nose causing a blockage inside the nose. Hence an ENT consultation is a must to rule this out. The other possibility is injury to nerves or the center in the brain. Generally the taste goes away because of loss of smell.
Avatar f tn These have all resulted in mild/moderate concussion/contusion, bruised ribs, moderate concussion/contusion, respectively. I have had pneumonia. I have anemia for which I take a daily vitamin. The cause of the anemia has not been identified, and there was signs of an enlarging spleen. At one point in time, it became so severe I could not find position of comfort except to lean almost backwards over the sidearm of the couch. Blood pressure runs on the low side (usually 115/70).
Avatar f tn I had a mTBI (brain contusion and concussion) about 3 and a half years ago. I had terrible distorted smell and taste for 2 years and then gradually improved to the point now where I can smell and taste pretty but not 100%. Some times it is 100%. I tried many alternative therapies, meds etc., for other terrible symptoms. But one thing I noticed is when I tried Neurofeedback my smell and taste improve but only for a day and then goes back to terrible.
Avatar n tn I played football and got sat on the head and the trainer said that I do not have a concussion. The next day I had a headache but medicine made it go away. I was fine for the next three days but after a soccer game I couldn't sleep was hot/cold (changed throughout the night) sweating and woke up with a huge headache in the middle of the night. For the past two days since that night I get odd headaches and get chills.
Avatar f tn Closed injury means you received a hard blow to head from striking an object, but the object didn’t break the skull. These include, concussion which is the commonest traumatic brain injury, contusion is a bruise on brain and skull fractures. The head may appear fine but complications could arise from bleeding or swelling inside the skull. The spine also needs to be examined. Consult a neurologist urgently and get a neurological assessment done including MRI spine and head.

1448748 tn?1312956208 Wgen I had a seizure and fell and had major concussion and confusion and head contusion, they did an mri this was a year ago, I had no symptoms. Now I have symptoms that my doc thinks could possibly be ms, my question is do they have to be specifically looking for ms type lesions to find them, our would they show up on an er mri looking for other emergency related things?
211940 tn?1267881266 (severe head trauma, concussion), severe neck trauma, dislocated left thumb and a severe chest contusion, back on July 3rd. Without this accident I would probably not have had an MRI that showed the lesions and the cyst. My first MRI revealed 1 walnut-sized cyst and 12-16 lesions, the 2nd MRI they found, more than one cyst and more than 16 lesions.
Avatar n tn ve fainted driving and recently hit my head on the side of my tiled tub and had a concussion, contusion and severely sprained my neck.
Avatar n tn An MRI and CT found no bleeding or damage, but from the very moment it happened both hands, feet and face cheeks have been numb and he lost strenght in his hands. He has been doing physical thearpy about 4 weeks and is slowly gaining his strength back but still has all of the numbness. He had another MRI on 3-24-09 and the Dr. said it showed no signs of nerve damage and everything looks normal. The Dr. keeps telling us the numbness should go away in 2-6 months.

1118437 tn?1259049741 I have always been really laid back and reserved and when this happened to me basically I was trying to calm down my mom. I'm not even sure if I had time to worry about it myself. Well now I am worrying about this and I have realized what I have been missing since I had my concussion. - My incentive to eat is shot. From what I think is... out of nose, out of mind. you can laugh its okay, I think it sounds funny :) - My memory is terrible compared to what it used to be.
1495080 tn?1290177561 I had a similar injury with some bleeding on the brain (brain contusion) a year and half ago exactly today. I lost my real sense of smell and taste (think it is called Parosmia). If you have complete loss of smell and taste it is anosmia. This alone can lead to depression. No one knows you can get it back or not. Doctors gave a random number 3 months, 6 months, 1 year etc., So it is still earlier to decide in your case. Also depression, anxiety etc., can happen with head injuries.
Avatar m tn I was involve in a very bad car accident 02/10 and have no memory of the actual wreck. the hospital deemed I have a severe concussion and then also diagnosed me with Post Concussion Syndrome. I am currently also experiencing back and neck problems as well as getting a collarbone checked out for a possible fracture. My question is does coffee effect concussion and PCS recovery. And how long does recovery generally take.
Avatar m tn I was in a martial arts class and sustained a contusion to my outer thigh, approx. 5 inches above my knee. The trama was severe enough that I could not stand for several minutes and then could only, barely, limp around. For the first several days, only the point of impact was painful. After about a week, the pain started spreading across both my anterior and posterior thigh muscles.

Avatar m tn I had a similar injury and had brain contusion (temporal and frontal lobes) happened 1 year 8 months ago and had lot of constant symptoms still (dizziness, head aches, fatigue etc.,) plus distorted sense of smell and taste. Mine is bizarre lately since it keeps changing through out the day and gets some what better in the night (meaning I can slightly have normal smell and taste). In the beginning it was so worse.
Avatar f tn The doctor stated that there was no evidence of a UTI, based off of lab work and told me I had a renal contusion due to my husband kicking me in the back. Can you explain how this happens?
Avatar m tn I went to the doctor that night at an urgent care center and asked me a few questions and palpated and checked my eyes and ears for bleeding. He told me I have a contusion (bruise). I did not even get an x-ray. I am currently a student in massage and understand that head injuries whether they are minor or not should be treated as serious just to rule out anything. I didn't have typical symptoms like nausea or dizziness or blackouts. Just tenderness in the spots hit.
Avatar f tn Then after one month condition got worse and they called it as Post Concussion Syndrome and then all hell broke and it is a long story. Usually doctors don't give any attention to this condition since it is not life threatening or disabling considering so many other things goes with head trauma. Now coming to loss of smell and taste I lost it (rather distorted) and all food smelled like smoke or weird smell. I did notice some bleeding from nose a day after my fall.
