Common Questions and Answers about Concerta with intuniv

concerta

Avatar f tn 1) Why did the tics suddenly happen after being on Concerta for 6 months....did adding the Intuniv have something to do with? I know Intuniv should help with tics....very confused on this... 2) What is the probability that the tics will go away?...and if so...how long does it take? 3) The Dr. Mentioned starting Strattera again as a trial...I have read a lot of bad stuff about this med...what are the factual pros and cons? 4) Have read a little on Wellbutrin...
Avatar n tn He started a weaning of the Concerta and wants it off in 3 weeks, and increased the Intuniv to 3 mg and kept Zoloft and Risperdal the same. My son has now started to have horrible motor tics again....is this common when weaning off a stimulant ? Also My son has gained at least 14 lbs in 2.
Avatar m tn As far as I know, the only two are intuniv and concerta. They use different formulations. No clue which is better. I think it probably depends on the individual. Both do take a while to take effect (compared to a stimulant). If you google them, you will be able to see lots of anecdotal posts on how it worked for that poster or their children. Hope this helps.
Avatar m tn Patient Information INTUNIV™ (in-TOO-niv) (guanfacine) Extended-Release Tablets Read the Patient Information that comes with INTUNIV™ before you start taking it and each time you get a refill. There may be new information. This leaflet does not take the place of talking with your doctor about your medical condition or your treatment. What is INTUNIV™? INTUNIV™ is a prescription medicine used to treat the symptoms of attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
5757880 tn?1395578022 My Aunt, who works with children like Zane, told me there is a good possibility that Zane will not qualify for the disability IEP because his issues seem to be more behavioral. Also, there is a chance we are dealing with something else along with the ADHD (PDD, Asperger’s, etc.) When Zane does his work at school, he rushes through it and will get F’s… but when he brings his work home, he knows all the answers and will do it with answering everything correct.
Avatar n tn Hi, My 13yr old son has mod-severe ADHD + OCD + Tourettes. In 2006 he showed a normal EKG. He has been taking Concerta ( 126 mg ), Abilify ( 6mg ), Prozac ( 40mg), Intuniv ( 4mg ), & clonidine at bedtime (.15mg). Since the last EKG he has tried diff SSRI's & SNRI's with some pos results. He is coming off the Abilify to try Haldol. His tics are very bad & last from 3pm after school until bedtime. We tried Risperdal yrs ago, but he wet the bed.
Avatar f tn After trying a few medications, his doctor chose Concerta as his daily medicine. It seemed to help a little with his so called "hyper" behavior. However, the doctor has increased the dosage a few times and my son is now taking 54mg.
89592 tn?1391274422 Concerta is a stim med. Did he get the high heart rates with that? I think it will have to be a trial and error approach as both meds work a bit differently. But, I wouldn't do anything until the meds he is taking to replace his thyroid have stabilized him. Also how long has he had the ADHD diagnosis? If your thyroid is not working right, it can really mess you up and depending on the problem give you ADHD like symptoms.
Avatar f tn 02mg of intuniv at night and .02mg in the morning. I had a very bad experience with intuniv. Then we tried 40 mg vyvanse with .02mg of kapvey (another form of clonidine), I have been on this combination for about six months, which have been about the best, most productive, and calm six months i've had since being diagnosed. I find that the decrease in my vyvanse was enough to calm my side effects, and the clonidine was enough to control my adhd. Hope this helps!
Avatar f tn When he grts aggrressive, most of the time it is directed at me. He with throw things at me, try to hit me, etc. He is also mildly aggressive with my 7 y/o daughter. I want to dicsipline him when he acts this way, but sometimes, I don't react in a healthy way and by the end, me and my son are both furious. Time outs don't work cuz he figures out ways to hurt himself. I know that a lot of it is not his fault and there for when I do dicsipline I kinda feel guilty.
1455599 tn?1285507900 My son is 6 years old and was diagnosed last year with adhd and now my poor little guy has been on a roller coaster ride. He has severe mood swings, and tantrums. Now he is having night walking and night terrors. Normally it is just nightmares but last night he flipped out and was seeing invisible robots that were attacking him and monsters on the doorway he was crying and really scared i had to hold his eyes with my hands and held him the rest of the night...
Avatar n tn I'm hoping someone here can help, perhaps a Ph.D. or someone with knowledge/experience of medicines-- I have been diagnosed ADHD since I was a little kid (early grade school) and diagnosed with social anxiety at 17yrs old (towards the end of high school). I've been on and off multiple medicines for both (I've been on 5-10 different drugs; see my personal feedback below on some of the meds if you are interested in that information). I also very much think I have OCD.
Avatar f tn My 3 year old son had been on many ADHD medicine and now on vyvanse during the day and intuniv at night and I gave him the intuniv earlier and now hes acting all crazy and bouncing off walls literally. What do I do?
Avatar n tn Interesting, I can find no mention of a 32mg dose of concerta. Is he on a 36 mg dose? if he is, "The maximum dosage of Concerta should not be greater than 0.9 mg per pound of body weight." fish oil is certainly something worth trying. There are ones out there developed specifically for kids (chewable, etc), and they will have the suggested dosage on the bottle. I really can't see any reason that primrose (I assume the oil) would be worth your money.
Avatar f tn It also is somewhat short acting so many times must be used twice a day. If you are still having problems, talk to your doctor about using Intuniv. It is an extended release version of Guanfacin and does work better then Tenex. You can find a lot of very good information about both meds here - http://www.corepsych.com/2013/12/intuniv-for-adhd-details-updated/ Also, I have seen many instances where a child is on both Intuniv and a stimulant medication with very good results.
Avatar m tn Mark is right on with his comments. I also wonder about the prescribing doctor. Another thought is have you (or the doc) looked at Sensory Processing Disorder. ADHD is many times mistaken for this. And if the normal stim meds are given for this, you get the same results that your grandson had. SPD is not treated by medication. You might want to check out this site on SPD - http://www.sensory-processing-disorder.
1744544 tn?1311299862 I was diagnosed ADD almost 3 years ago and was then started on Adderall along with my already prescribed Xanax for Anxiety, which was diagnosed when I was 9. My DR took me from 20mg, to 30mg, to 40mg, to 60mg (20mg 3 times a day) in a matter of about 3 months. So, for over 2 years, I have consistently taken 60mg of Adderall.
Avatar n tn I see this is an old question but I'm first time here and just will say 18mg Concerta will be overpowered as you didn't take any with high amount xanax, it's no spedball but can make some problems with tachychardia so be carefull....now if you take like 2mg xanax and 72mg Concerta and feel focused, motivated without anxiety f.e.
Avatar f tn I saw a urologist, who did a cystoscopy and he said everything was fine, my bladder was fine, and my urinary tract was fine, and that as a urologist he could no longer help me. He suggested that I speak with my psychiatrist because of the medication I am on. I take lamictal, concerta, pristiq, seasonique, and zyrtec d everyday. But i'm just confused because I have taken these medicines for over 6 months now and have not had these problems.
Avatar f tn Im a 19 years old boy and i have tried vyvanse which did miracles at first at 20mg until the effect decreased and had to go up to 60mg with no effects except the bad ones and went back to my old self(lazy, tired, unmotivated etc.). I am now on concerta 36mg and it seems like working but not all the time and clearly not as much as first time vyvanse.
Avatar n tn My daughter is 5 years old and has ADHD. She recently went on the drug Concerta, then her PCP prescribed cetirizine as well for hay fever that I didn't even realize she had. On a routine cardiology check for the Concerta meds, the cardiologist discovered my daughter had PACs. The cardiologist took her off all of her meds for 10 days and did another EKG. She still had the PACs even off meds. Now my daughter is on atenolol 2 mL per day, Concerta, and cetirizine all together.
4171860 tn?1350581307 No one can seem to tell me whats wrong... hes tried ADHD meds and they didnt sit with him well... he is currently on intuniv and that does not help either. but at least when he is one this medicine he sleeps. when hes off it, hes awake allllllll nightttttt longgggggg. Avatar n tn our son is now 16, and has been taking meds for ADHD, ODD and (as of last year) bipolar disorder. He is taking Risperidone, 1mg am, 1mg pm. Lithium 450mg am, 300 mg pm. and now, thanks to the lithium use, his is taking levothroid 25mcg once a day for his thyroid? I would like to know if this is too much meds and the length of time he's been on them. He is STILL aggressive, mean, abusive, loud and raging.. I would like to know if this combo of meds is making him worse?
