Avatar f tn It is a side effect! Weight gain is too. Can you try a different medication that may help. If you are on a high dose speak to your doc maybe you can try cutting down if you are doing great otherwise. Also try www.orthomolecularvitamincentre.com I hope you the best God Bless You.
1756969 tn?1332437163 thanks my dr is weening me off of setraline and putting me on celexa. i hope this doesnt cause weight gain or increased appetite and i am also starting concerta for my adhd. phew i hate taking all these fricking meds. ugh~!
Avatar f tn I often worry about the lack of growth and weight gain in my son. He is 50lbs at 10yrs. He however, seems to be showing signs of puberty early.
Avatar f tn I had weight loss they put me in Zyprexa. I would see my GP because weight loss can be caused by other conditions.
Avatar n tn Over the last several years she has had significant weight gain not loss. It does not seem possible that it is a misdiagnosis three times...but it is questionable to me why none of the medications work for her and none of the medications cause a loss of appetite, she actually seems to always to be hungry. I do not know where else to go...two psyhiatrists, one psychologist, and out family doctor...
Avatar n tn He is doing great. He has struggled with weight gain but he had problems that way before he started on medication. He was below the 10th line for weight before he started on meds and has gained over time. No one really worried about it too much. Our dietician gave us plenty of advice on a high calorie diet for him and as he was much happier with himself on the meds we have left him on them. We were also given loads of help with behaviour management for him.
Avatar f tn My son has been taking concerta for four years and has went up slightly with his weight gain over the years. He is 12 years old and is on 54 mg, and today he answered the door and then fell to the floor, started banging his head against the floor, and then got up walked over to the sofa and started watching tv. He had no recollection that he had even done that, and was completely conscious. Could this be due to the medicine?
Avatar f tn Another thought is that weight gain among adults with adhd is common due to (they think) lack of impulse control. If the Vyvanse can control this the Contrave might not be needed? This is why I kind of assume the prescriptions were from two different doctors. Hope this helps.
Avatar m tn Im a 16 yearold male that plays a ton of sports and works out a lot but I'm never hungry! Its really weird all my buddies eat a ton of food after our games and in general there always hungry! I'm 6 feet tall and weigh 160 pounds. I am starting to feel weak because I don't eat. Is it normal for me to feel like this? I'm currently on 105mg of concerta. Could the concerta be doing it to me?
Avatar n tn My son was diagnosed with ADHD when he was 6 and has been on concerta since that time which has helped him tremendously until recently. It's as if the concerta has no effect on him anymore. his doctor said he can't up his dosage to 36 mg because of his weight (he weighs approx 65 pounds). Has anyone ever heard of this? I didn't think the dosage was based on weight.
982251 tn?1248781387 My daughter has been on concerta for 3 yrs now and she has facial tics. We took her off now and its been about 4 days, they seem to have gone away except once in away in awhile I see one but mostly 3\4 or more are gone. So I would like to know if they were becuse of the concerta and not touretts.
Avatar n tn Which would make more sense then the Concerta being the problem. And Risperdal could be the reason for the weight gain too. Here is a link to the info I was looking at on Risperdal - http://www.crazymeds.us/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Meds/Risperdal By the way, don't suddenly stop the Risperdal. You must sloooowly come off of it. Good luck!
1240654 tn?1268317515 My first experience with Abilify was an abnormal one (so please do not take this too seriously, as it seems I was an exception), since it threw me into a manic state; however, my Psychiatrist has come to the conclusion that I'm just wired completely different. After being weaned off the stuff for about a week, my Psychiatrist put me back on it, but a fourth of what I was taking.
1756970 tn?1314376733 Not all of them contribute to weight gain. Also, even if a drug is associated with weight gain you can diet and exercise to keep it down.
558991 tn?1226060828 I advised her against it, saying diet and excersise are the best options, but she has a lot of trouble loosing weight, like most of my family. I am very worried that Concerta mixed with any weight loss medications can cause problems. Are my fears rational? Thanks.
Avatar m tn 8years old} with ADHD who is 5 years old and weighs normal weight for his age and he was started on concerta last week and that was the nedication and 18mg was the dose hebwas prescribed. I also have a.d.d and have stronger medication than that. So you may want to speak to doctors about changing medication or for dose increase. Good luck.
Avatar f tn i find i can concentrate much better now and get on with alot of things i couldnt before, however, i get side effects from taking it, i lose my appeitie alot of the time so therefore i have very little control over my weight lose/gain, I also take Temazepam at night to try and help me sleep as that can sometimes be rather hard to wind down. this is also a side effect of Ritalin. i take a form of Ritalin called Concerta which is a 12 hour slow release.
Avatar n tn My only concern regarding the medication is, my son has lost about 30+ pounds in the last 65 months and appears to continue to drop weight. I will admit, he was on the heavier side so he could afford to drop some weight but he's really skinny now. He's about 5'9 and weighs about 148. Will he continue to drop weight if he stays on this medication? How long is too long to stay on the medication? Can he be in it for long term?
565294 tn?1216433315 class at school he has a iep and is taking concerta to help with his concentration. but he has lost 4 pd this month any one else notice the same side effect? also i live in oswego Illinois has any one herd of any support groups out there for moms and dads? or classes to help parents with dealing with adhd behaviors and how to respond better or how to say things better (to add encouragement) its a ttough job somedays.
Avatar m tn Yes when I was prescribed Depakoate I experienced some sedation and weight gain. I also found that it was more effective for mania than depression and I was told that aspect was not uncommon but each person responds differently to each medication.
Avatar n tn Interesting, I can find no mention of a 32mg dose of concerta. Is he on a 36 mg dose? if he is, "The maximum dosage of Concerta should not be greater than 0.9 mg per pound of body weight." fish oil is certainly something worth trying. There are ones out there developed specifically for kids (chewable, etc), and they will have the suggested dosage on the bottle. I really can't see any reason that primrose (I assume the oil) would be worth your money.
Avatar f tn If he has been on the same level of concerta for the last 4 years and has had no weight gain in the last 4 years, then an increase would possibly not be necessary - unless it no longer was working for him. The maximum recommended dose for adults is 72 mgs per day (did you know this?). I guess my question is - is your feeling about your doctors recommendation based on your sons need or yours?
Avatar n tn I was prescribed Concerta 18mg by a psychiatrist. I am currently studying for the bar exam and have been taking one pill everyday (since May 17th). The bar exam is on July 24th-26th, 2017. I have never taken Concerta everyday for this long before, and I know that daily use is not encouraged. However, I feel that taking it daily would allow me to prepare for the exam to the best of my ability.
Avatar f tn My daughter is 6 years old, on concerta for ADHD and is losing weight. She has been on medications for adhd for over a year now. She was born at 35 weeks by c-section, hospitalized several times before age 2 for respiratory conditions. She has a congenital dislocation of her elbows, significantly more pronounced on left side, for which she is being monitored by Shriners hospital. No other significant medical history.
Avatar n tn My son takes Concerta as well as his sister They are both on a dose of risperdal as well. Trevor is ADHD Combined type He's 5 y/o and takes 27 mgs of Concerta Jessey his sister is 7 and takes a lower dose she is just ADD. I was having the same issues as you with these two it seemed when 7 p.m. came every night like clock work my kids turned in to monsters like the warewolf does when the sun goes down in the movies .
Avatar n tn I have an 8 year old son that can not control his bowel movements. He's always soiling in his pants and when I ask him why he says it just comes out. He's been on Concerta for a little over a year now and I'm not sure if this is what's causing the problem. Does anyone have the same problem?
Avatar f tn Others abuse stimulant meds for their weight-loss properties. If your child is taking stimulants, make sure he or she isn’t sharing the pills or selling them. 1. Adderall 2. Concerta 3. Ritalin 4. Vyvanse 5. Strattera (do not use this, there is a warning on the label for suicidal thoughts) 6. focalin 7. Dexedrine Their may be other but these are the most popular ones used. Please read and research everything about this before doing anything.
Avatar f tn Concerta does not cause the enlarged heart, but definitely increases the heart rate and causes other chest pains, so cardiovascular monitoring is a MUST with all the ADHD-drug taking children. My son has a 5-6 mm hole in his heart and we get Eco every year, just because he is taking Concerta. So far, we were lucky and did not have to suspend taking it. If they say it - keep him off of it. I am sorry to say that.
Avatar n tn I just started taking Concerta (36 mg) and I immediately developed shingles. My doctor swears it's a coincidence, but after seeing your post I can't help but wonder. I had chicken pox as a child, but I've never had shingles before now. What happened in your case? I went to the doctor today and got neurontin and valtrex, but the doctor told me to keep taking the Concerta. I don't know what to do.
