concerta vs wellbutrin

As far as I know, the only two are intuniv and concerta. They use different formulations. No clue which is better. I think it probably depends on the individual. Both do take a while to take effect (compared to a stimulant). If you google them, you will be able to see lots of anecdotal posts on how it worked for that poster or their children. I am a 40 year old female with ADD and Bilor Disorder. I take Abilfy, Topomax, Wellbutrin and Concerta. I go to the gym 3x week and try to watch what I eat. I am always tired!!!! Any suggesstions?

Hello, I also have adult ADD and I have tried both Concerta and Vyvanse. My doctor wanted me to try Concerta for a few weeks and I didn't like it at all. It didn't agree with me. It made it feel depressed and NOT motivated to do everyday things. I was on a 36 mg dose and when I went back to my doctor I told him I hated it. He mentioned that there is a new medication called Vyvanse and asked if I would like to try it. With nothing to lose, I said yes. I do like Vyvanse.

Does anyone have suggestions for supplementing this with another drug. I have heard wellbutrin works well with Ritalin but I would like to here from someone with experience. Ritalin is the only drug that has ever helped me but when it wears off I am depressed again. (and I have tried Concerta and did like it) Any suggestions?

At age 5 he was diagnosed with pretty sever ADHD. We started on Strattera and after two weeks he violently attacked me...We then went to Concerta then to Focalin then back to Concerta....not ever obtaining great control of ADHD. He additionally was put on Prozac about a year ago for anxiety as he was chewing the skin off his fingers until they would bleed and chew huge blisters on his lips. Three weeks ago, the Psychiatrist added in Intuniv...OH MY GOSH...

I have been on many ADD and anti depressant meds but all to no avail except with Wellbutrin XR and somewhat with Concerta. The Wellbutrin worked amazingly well a long time ago but stopped shortly after I took a small sip of hard liquor. My doctors are perplexed by this but that is the only explanation I can come up with. I have given the medication a couple of more shots since, as recent as a year ago but all to no avail. I am currently on concerta.

But that was the moment I decided to go to the shrink to see if it was true. I tried Ritalin and Concerta, but eventually decided they weren't worth it. If I were in a classroom situation, I don't think I could do it without the rolling chair.

Usually if you have panic attacks, and are irritable, have OCD and are depressed, an SSRI would be better than Wellbutrin (Wellbutrin can make panic attacks, irritability, anger and OCD even worse). I am convinced I have a dopamine problem, which is why I didn't even CONSIDER an ssri. I went right for wellbutrin since it works on dopamine. Well...

Lithium 900mg, Wellbutrin 300mg twice daily, Lamictal, Concerta 36mg, and Seraquel 100mg. All I am being told is that the hardest thing when treating bipolar disorder is to keep the patient on there meds, am I going CRAZY or could the meds be the problem? Know the different options for treatment including psychological counseling vs medications. I opted for Concerta & it has been working well for her. I give it to her 7 days a week because she is ADHD, know the difference between ADD & ADHD. ADD is only Attention Deficit vs ADHD includes Hyperactivity. But every child is different & the levels are different, some are more hyperactive then others as well as their attention span.

Wellbutrin is stimulating, you may want to discuss this with your doctor. It may be the culprit with your insomnia. Take care.

Concerta, 30mg Adderall IR, and 30mg Adderall XR. Concerta gave me migraines. Adderall XR completely sucked. Adderall IR was the best medication that I found until Vyvanse. Now I think Adderall is horrible in comparison. I've been taking 30mg of Vyvanse for a few months now. This has been my adjusted dose from trying 20mg, 30mg, and 50mg. 50mg was wayy too much at the time. 30mg was perfect until about a month ago. It lasted about 12 hours, a huge improvement over 4 hours of Adderall IR.

Im about to loose insurance soon, on 150mg Wellbutrin in am, I had always only taken sui's before...still am celexa in pm...I just cannot afford the wellbutrin 240 name brand and 190 generic per month...already wrote the co that makes it got a 40 per month coupon... I will try for medicaid post divorce,,,but am trying to figure things out incase that does not happen. So anyone know anything cheap thats similar I can suggest to psyc?

You're right about Wellbutrin. It can be more stimulating for some people. Maybe you can start on a very small dose to help with your depression. Ask you Dr about trying the lowest dose first to see how well you do on it.

Ive taken Wellbutrin and Concerta from 8-22yrs old. I stopped for 4 years and my breasts increased a cup size when I stopped taking them!! Now that I am back on both, they (my breasts) have decreased! What is going on? Am I the only person that this has happened to? This is "not a side effect" is what my doctors say. My doctors think I don't know what is happening to my body, but I have even had friends say, "you have lost your butt and your breasts…what happened?!

I don't know about growing pains vs. "problematic" pains either. Has her dosage of Concerta been increased? I ask because often ADHD meds are gradually increased, and sometimes kids can only tolerate a lower dose. If her medication had been increased, that might account for some of the more twitching coming on suddenly. The twitching would concern me more than the pains.... I too had a lot of "growing pains," when I was a teen. God Bless!

Thanks for the responses - the basis of my concern is that I've looked at several medication blog sites and have seen numerous posts of women reporting hair loss from anti-depressants including Wellbutrin so I was really questioning the validity of the "less than 1%" finding from the Wellbutrin trials.
