Concerta vs metadate

Common Questions and Answers about Concerta vs metadate

concerta

Avatar n tn Talk to her docotor about trying another med such as Stratera (non-stimulant) or Metadate CD another type of stimulant. I have a friend with a boy who takes Metadate CD. They tried Concerta and it did not work for the school at all. He was very restless and hyper. At home he was fine at the end of the day. So, the way this boy's body metabolized the med was different and the benefit of the med was late in the afternoon. Metadate CD works better for this boy during school hours.
Avatar f tn My son is 8 on concerta and he also wets his pants I am begining to wonder I have read the literature and can't find any connection. But I do wonder.
Avatar f tn my 7 yr old has been on the metadate CD for 2 yrs now and I am pleased with it. It is a very good medicine. She had tried the adderall, but it didnt work for her. so she was put back on the metadate.
Avatar f tn I have a 5 year old daughter who has recently been "kicked out" of pre-school for aggression. My husband & I have taken her to therapy and we are now trying medication (Concerta 36mg). Nothing seems to be working and the aggression is worsening. I love my baby girl and it is breaking my heart to see her so unhappy all the time. We are doing everything that is recommended in therapy (behavior charts, ect) and still no progress.
Avatar f tn Does anyone have any advice? We have tried many different medicines- concerta, metadate, all wioth severe side effects with my son, so do not want to keep trying defferent medicines. It is just confusing since he is not on any medicine now. . Thanks.
Avatar n tn My son is 15 years old and for as long as I can remeber he has always been very unhappy & extremely angry. He's been in & out of therapy (counseling) since he was 4 years old. We had NEVER concidered medication until about 8 months ago. My son was tired of not being liked, feeling angry, sad and felt he needed help beyond just counseling.
Avatar n tn Hello, I have an 8 yr old son wjo has adhd and is on adderall xr 20 mgs he has just recently had this increase, he has also been on concerta which did not work and straterra which cause him to hallucinate. I am having a hard time getting him to eat and he is having a very hard time sleeping. the doctors have given different medications to help him sleep including melatonin trazodone and benedryl, they all seemed to have the opposite effect on him. I just dont know what to do.
Avatar n tn any nyperactivity, inattention or impulsivity. Such medications will not have an influence in the other areas of his functioning. Any of these medications should be employed only if a careful diagnosis of Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder has been reached.
Avatar n tn When he moved from Kindergarten to 1st grade, he was switched to Concerta because it is time-released. It took a little while for him to adjust but he's done well on it. We find that Spring is when he seems to need an increase in dosage. He still uses Ritalin if he has an evening event that needs him to focus. I would talk w/ your doctor etc ... has he been evaluated?
1575110 tn?1334664635 Hello, I also have adult ADD and I have tried both Concerta and Vyvanse. My doctor wanted me to try Concerta for a few weeks and I didn't like it at all. It didn't agree with me. It made it feel depressed and NOT motivated to do everyday things. I was on a 36 mg dose and when I went back to my doctor I told him I hated it. He mentioned that there is a new medication called Vyvanse and asked if I would like to try it. With nothing to lose, I said yes. I do like Vyvanse.
Avatar n tn dosages of the various medications that eliminate the need to give him 3 daily dosages. In fact, Concerta is a once per day dosage that lasts almost 12 hours. It is my understanding that Metadate CD lasts about eight hours and has less side effects than Ritalin. You can Google these names and research the various types of these medications available.
Avatar f tn t know about abilify he has also been on concerta, adderall, metadate, ritalin and focalin he had reactions to all those especially the focalin he started hallucinating so now he just takes the risperdal and he also takes tenex at night.
Avatar f tn My 9 year old son has been on 18mg of Concerta for three years now and it's been great for him. Unlike Ritalin, Concerta is taken only once in the morning so it starts to wear off in time for dinner and definately on time for going to bed. The problem with Ritalin seems to be that it's a difficult come down and makes going to sleep at night very uncomfortable. Concerta has been great for my son.
Avatar n tn He does ok on Metadate CD but he seems a little zombie like with no emotion and not very social when on Metadate. I believe that it is why the doctor suggested a different med. Thank you for your comment.
Avatar m tn Know the different options for treatment including psychological counseling vs medications. I opted for Concerta & it has been working well for her. I give it to her 7 days a week because she is ADHD, know the difference between ADD & ADHD. ADD is only Attention Deficit vs ADHD includes Hyperactivity. But every child is different & the levels are different, some are more hyperactive then others as well as their attention span.
Avatar f tn They started and currently have him taking Zoloft 25mg and Metadate 10mg, they are not working. When he takes the two together whether at the same time or at separate hours he is worse off then when we started. It seems like they counter act each other. If I give him just the Zoloft, then he is fine, his anxiety is down and less violent, but climbs the walls and has to be given a benadryl to calm him down.
414608 tn?1221754268 I have 5 year old a child who has always had behavior problems since he was 2. He has been put out of several daycares and the behavior started out with hitting and biting other kids, then it went to not listening to adults and running and hiding from them. When he started Pre-K last year, he did fine for the 1st semester with no problems, then things went downhill from there. he would thow things in the classroom and have tantrums frequently.
Avatar f tn I don't know about growing pains vs. "problematic" pains either. Has her dosage of Concerta been increased? I ask because often ADHD meds are gradually increased, and sometimes kids can only tolerate a lower dose. If her medication had been increased, that might account for some of the more twitching coming on suddenly. The twitching would concern me more than the pains.... I too had a lot of "growing pains," when I was a teen. God Bless!

Avatar f tn I should have added that it is way outside the norm for a child of ten to be getting out of her seat in school. Her teacher has to set more firm limits on this behavior and, in no uncertain terms, tell her to stop it.
Avatar n tn I believe that you can, but I am not an expert. I know that you can cut the pills for Ritalin and Metadate but not Concerta. You might ask the pharmacy for the literature that comes with the medicine. Sometimes it states in the paperwork if you can cut the pill. Depending on your pharmacist, he wil tell you if it is fine for you to split the pills. Also, your son should not show withdrawl. Even if your son shows withdrawl problems, these should be temporary and they are better than tics.
1549092 tn?1297046311 I think you will find the information useful as it compares Vyvanse vs Adderall XR. Do make sure you also click on their ADHD link at the top of the page once you have finished reading. The site is - http://healthlifeandstuff.com/2009/07/vyvanse-vs-adderall-simple-vs-complex. You also might want to check out another very good site for adult ADD. Its has a different approach to the matter as it is all done with videos and was recently featured in a special on PBS.
