1575110 tn?1334664635 Hello, I also have adult ADD and I have tried both Concerta and Vyvanse. My doctor wanted me to try Concerta for a few weeks and I didn't like it at all. It didn't agree with me. It made it feel depressed and NOT motivated to do everyday things. I was on a 36 mg dose and when I went back to my doctor I told him I hated it. He mentioned that there is a new medication called Vyvanse and asked if I would like to try it. With nothing to lose, I said yes. I do like Vyvanse.
Avatar m tn I've noticed a lot of exacerbated ADHD symptoms by taking SSRI medications. SSRI medicines are hard to manage when I have severe hyperactivity and inattentiveness with ADHD, yet the SSRI seems to help in other areas that I mentioned. I have spoken to my psychiatrist about this a couple times, and he told me to try and time the doses between Dexedrine and Lexapro so I don't have too much Lexapro before trying to study, and try not to have too much Dexedrine close to bed.
Avatar f tn My 9 year old son has been on Concerta for about 3 years now and I am concerned whether it is true or a myth that ADD meds can stunt growth or slow down puberty process. Does anyone happen to know?
Avatar n tn We tried putting my 9 year old son (who has ADHD) on Concerta about a month ago and after about 4 days, he started frequently rolling his eyes involuntarily up and to the right. We took him off immediately, but the symptoms have persisted. I'm not sure if it was caused by the Concerta, as he'd previously been on it for a month about a year ago and did not display the eye rolling. Does anyone know if there is a correlation, and if this is something that will stop?
Avatar m tn m looking for some coaching on what to expect and what I should be aware of as I proceed. I also take Wellbutrine and Dexedrine. Advice is welcomed. Thank you.
Avatar f tn We now switched him to concerta (lasts longer than focalin)...and added Prozac. Teacher really likes the results at school. However...evenings are hectic. He becomes very silly and immature. Often displaying autistic like behaviors--flapping hands, grunting, weird noises etc. Demeanor is relatively happy and giggly....Before just on ADHD meds...the withdrawal he was very angry and aggressive. He takes clonodine to sleep. But is very amped up at night. Could this be a side effect?
Avatar f tn Taking amphetamine (i.e. Adderall, Dexedrine, Vyvanse), bupropion (WellButrin), dexfenfluramine, fenfluramine, furazolidone, guanadrel, guanethidine, or have taken a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) (e.g., phenelzine) in the last 14 days" This quote is from - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phentermine You probably should read the link. I kind of get the feeling that the two meds should not be combined. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn Welcome to the forum. I'm not familiar w/ Adderall, but my son takes concerta for ADHD. I do know you cannot stop these drugs cold turkey. You should talk to your Dr. and discuss a plan w/ him When my son goes to his dads/ every other weekend, sometimes he doesn't take his meds all wk.end and by Mon. morning he is vomiting, has bad headache, sick to his stomach and diarrhea. I just put it together about 2 wks. ago after reading this forum, that he was having wd's....
Avatar m tn Know the different options for treatment including psychological counseling vs medications. I opted for Concerta & it has been working well for her. I give it to her 7 days a week because she is ADHD, know the difference between ADD & ADHD. ADD is only Attention Deficit vs ADHD includes Hyperactivity. But every child is different & the levels are different, some are more hyperactive then others as well as their attention span.
Avatar f tn There are several options such as Desoxyn, dexamphetamine, Dexedrineamphetamine, dexadrine, vyvanse, concerta, and modatil. These are a few I have ran across and I'm sure there are more. I don't know very much about these but I'm looking into it. If anybody has had a similar problem and has found an answer I would appreciate any help! Experience with tums? Taking a break to regain tolerance? How long? And people that have changed to different drug...
Avatar n tn i have been prescribed adderall before, but the only downfall for me is the comedown. I get all jittery and generally just feel bad.. my friend who is prescribed recommended me dexedrine, he says because it is pure dextroamphetamine and that there are no salts that the comedown isn't as harsh, is this true? i really wanna try this stuff out for my adhd, so how would i go about telling my doctor i would like to try it so i dont end up sounding like i just want drugs?
Avatar f tn I did find this one article which might help you. It reviews various types of meds used for ADHD - https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&q=cache:kH4CuWvgmbQJ:www.ncgiadd.org/pdf/Medications.
Avatar f tn I don't know about growing pains vs. "problematic" pains either. Has her dosage of Concerta been increased? I ask because often ADHD meds are gradually increased, and sometimes kids can only tolerate a lower dose. If her medication had been increased, that might account for some of the more twitching coming on suddenly. The twitching would concern me more than the pains.... I too had a lot of "growing pains," when I was a teen. God Bless!
1541754 tn?1294331420 The drug in cigarette smoke, Nicotine,is a stimulant drug kind of like Dexedrine. So smoking is a way for people with ADHD to self-medicate their symptoms. Like Dexedrine, the nicotine you inhale in tobacco smoke makes you feel better; for example more alert and focussed and "calm" - less anxious, restless and impulsive and so on.
Avatar f tn I am a 40 year-old female very newly diagnosed with ADHD. My doc started me on dexedrine 5mg twice a day to start off for now. Is aybody familiar with this medication? It seems like everyone is on newer name brand meds.
Avatar m tn I'm on Dexedrine Spansules for ADD this is the same as Adderall except its a tad stronger. Your Addderall is formulated to be taken as one dose in the morning the peak plasma half life is 8 to 9 hours oppsed to 2 to 3 with immediate release formulations. So take full dose at 8 am and your sleeping pills will then work better.
674607 tn?1240017232 Effexor (low dosage), Lithium (low--600 mg), Wellbutrin (300 mg), Risperdal (low), Clonazepam (low), Dexedrine 10 mg when needed. Do you think any meds on this list can cause high blood pressure?
1549092 tn?1297046311 I think you will find the information useful as it compares Vyvanse vs Adderall XR. Do make sure you also click on their ADHD link at the top of the page once you have finished reading. The site is - http://healthlifeandstuff.com/2009/07/vyvanse-vs-adderall-simple-vs-complex. You also might want to check out another very good site for adult ADD. Its has a different approach to the matter as it is all done with videos and was recently featured in a special on PBS.
Avatar m tn I have been prescribed and used adderall before (10mg and 15mg) and with these have experienced diminishment in sexual libido as well as difficulties in obtaining an erection. While I ran out of my regular capsules, a friend of mine offered to share a DEXEDRINE 10mg.
1165577 tn?1263001618 Sorry charlotte885 but, despite you effort to correct your spelling, what you meant was Dexedrine, no offense ;). You might be confusing Dexedrine with Dexatrim and Dexatrim is a dietary supplement to decrease appetite with no stimulating effects like the stimulants we're talking about. You are right about the drugs being in the same family, they are all psychostimulants mainly composed of amphetamine and/or dextroamphetamine, levoamphetamine, and other stuff like that...
Avatar n tn Wolfe he is associated with the Health Research Group, has put out information perhaps if you put in under Health Research Group and his name you will find out what he has to say, I know that the FDA has sent out warnings about the effects of Adderall, Dexedrine, Concerta and Ritalin and 2 years ago called for stronger Warnings on the Labels of these Drugs.
