Concerta side effects in kids

Common Questions and Answers about Concerta side effects in kids

concerta

Avatar f tn I can see being on V and perhaps adderall in the late after noon. Or concerta and ritalin in the late afternoon. Since the Concerta/ritalin are the same type of meds. Same thing for Vyvannse and Adderall. Point being, why was the V not working for you? What symptoms did you have. I would think that the two could have been over dosing you. Did you ever try just V alone?
Avatar m tn This is the first medication they suggested to us. She seems to be doing really well in school but the side effects at home are becoming hard for us to handle. SHe has become very nonaffectionate, emotional, withdrawn, and seems to be uninterested in life. She also will not eat at all. She is eating maybe one meal a day. I am wondering if we switch medications, will the side effects be the same/as bad?
1756970 tn?1314376733 couldnt interpret what people were wanting from me. i heard them but just panic mode set in. i want to know could it be an side effect of the concerta? i also had a few panic attacks and i have never had one of them. i also had some mania feelings. like the energizer bunny. my brain wouldnt slow down and my body was like pumping. today i have energy and organized. yesterday, i was in like a melt down mode. my brain again was foggy, tired and all i wanted to do was sleep. ugh!!! any advice!!
Avatar f tn Hello, I'm 19 years old and just got diagnosed, as one would say, with ADD/ADHD rather recently. I was given a prescription for Concerta 36mg to be taken daily. This is the third week taking it and I have been noticing some odd side effects. On days when I take it in the morning and don't eat I feel nauseous and generally off, which I was warned about prior so it doesn't worry me as much. However, I have also noticed quite a difference in my mood.
Avatar n tn We have finally found a medication that allows my boy to have success in school, but the negative side effects are outweighing the postive response to the meds. Has anyone heard of the appetite returning after a time?
982251 tn?1248781387 Look up drug side effects for concerta. Maybe changing the medication might help, and it does take some time for the medication and there side effects to clear their system.
Avatar f tn how long did it take for your heavy blinking and ticks to go away my daughter is on concerta and kids in school are starting to make fun of her!!!!
Avatar n tn I do not see it on the side effects list for this med but I do see loss of appetite and with my son I see just the opposite, he wants to eat al of the time and he doesn't seem to get full very easy at all. He has gained a lot of weight being on this med. Does anyone else have this problem and has anyone had their child checked for the accidents they are having with their bowls? What did your doctor say could be the problem?
Avatar f tn mportant information about Concerta Do not use Concerta if you have used an MAO inhibitor such as isocarboxazid (Marplan), tranylcypromine (Parnate), phenelzine (Nardil), rasagiline (Azilect), or selegiline (Eldepryl, Emsam) within the past 14 days. Serious, life-threatening side effects can occur if you use Concerta before the MAO inhibitor has cleared from your body.
Avatar m tn These are typical side effects froom withdrawls of that type of medication (amphetamine, methylphetamine) or stimulants. If a patient is used to being on a stimulant drug for some time, withdrawing that drug would cause a general slowing down of the body, hence the extreme fatigue, lack of motivation and focus. Your body is going through an increased response of side effects from withdrawl, as you've been of this medication for a year which is why your symptoms may be more exaggerated.
Avatar n tn for a 3 month supply of both, but they are all natural and there are very little side effects. And the side effects from the ritulin and concerta were really harming my son. I encourage all of you to look into these 2 things, they really work just as good as the prescription meds.
Avatar n tn My daughter is nearly 11 years old and has been taking Concerta (now on 36mg) since March. The doctor recommended a switch to Strattera for the reason that it works 24 hours (Concerta is effective for only 12 hours) and will help my daughter concentrate more. I have no idea whether Strattera is a better alternative, can anyone tell me if this is true?
1858622 tn?1319813203 There are many reasons why a 13 year old girl could get stomach pains, and I suppose that Concerta certainly could be one of them. Have you looked at its side effects? But in any case, this is something that you should have told your doctor and then let that doctor decide what to do. Everybody is different, responds to different doses and medications. I do hope that Focus works for you. That would be wonderful.
Avatar f tn feeling nervous or irritable, sleep problems (insomnia); loss of appetite; nausea, stomach pain; or headache. So it is probably that the combination of the drug and coffee is the cause of the nausea.
Avatar f tn Parents of ADD ADHD children know that the medications used to treat their ADHD children have side effects. Most side effects of drugs like Ritalin or Concerta can be eliminated by proper medical management. However, one of the most difficult problems that these medications cause is sleep disturbances. It is very common for an ADD ADHD child who is on medication to have difficulty falling asleep at night.
11352669 tn?1417486501 I really want to keep my prescription, but also not have negative side effects that could affect in a serious way my health.
969557 tn?1314370614 Witch is a side effect to concerta and can not be reversed .They can only give you medicine to try and control the seizures. I wish we had never put my son on these medicines. We found out in 2006 that my son was having seizures and he still is and medicines is not working even thou he takes 4 now and at one time he was on 6 medicines and still didn't work.
Avatar n tn side effects were big loss of appetite ended up in the bottom 10% for height and weight for his age, lost almost 3 kg in 8 months. developed tics, throat clearing and a dry cough every 30secs or so, some days worse than others, biting finger nails and ripping skin around nails really bad, became quite nervous and lost confidence in himself. at night around 6pm-7pm would rebound his behaviour was extreme hyper, loud and totally out of control, could not get him to sleep till 11pm-12pm.
356518 tn?1322263642 I have seen to many horror stories on it. Including my own family memebers. My son is ADD and is on Concerta... Concerta is great... It is as close as you can get to ritalin and it not have the bad effects like ritalin. Maybe you should try it. It is expensive though. the 27mg dose is like 100 CDN a month. But works well.
Avatar f tn Im a 19 years old boy and i have tried vyvanse which did miracles at first at 20mg until the effect decreased and had to go up to 60mg with no effects except the bad ones and went back to my old self(lazy, tired, unmotivated etc.). I am now on concerta 36mg and it seems like working but not all the time and clearly not as much as first time vyvanse.
Avatar m tn Unless, you had started taking something like Prozac or Paxill, which allows it to build up in your system. But the side effects would be different. Also some things like orange juice taken within one hour of the medication will block its effectiveness. And a high protein diet breakfast will make it more effective. So thats something that you can easily try. My first thought would be sleep apnea. Lack of sleep at night can seriously mess you up.
Avatar f tn htm As they are similar in nature and both have overlapping side effects, taking both at the same time has the potential of increasing side effects that both share. Let us know what your doctor recommended for you.
