Avatar m tn These are typical side effects froom withdrawls of that type of medication (amphetamine, methylphetamine) or stimulants. If a patient is used to being on a stimulant drug for some time, withdrawing that drug would cause a general slowing down of the body, hence the extreme fatigue, lack of motivation and focus. Your body is going through an increased response of side effects from withdrawl, as you've been of this medication for a year which is why your symptoms may be more exaggerated.
1575110 tn?1334664635 Hello, I also have adult ADD and I have tried both Concerta and Vyvanse. My doctor wanted me to try Concerta for a few weeks and I didn't like it at all. It didn't agree with me. It made it feel depressed and NOT motivated to do everyday things. I was on a 36 mg dose and when I went back to my doctor I told him I hated it. He mentioned that there is a new medication called Vyvanse and asked if I would like to try it. With nothing to lose, I said yes. I do like Vyvanse.
Avatar n tn My daughter is nearly 11 years old and has been taking Concerta (now on 36mg) since March. The doctor recommended a switch to Strattera for the reason that it works 24 hours (Concerta is effective for only 12 hours) and will help my daughter concentrate more. I have no idea whether Strattera is a better alternative, can anyone tell me if this is true?
Avatar n tn His teacher and myself (my son too) have noticed a postitive change in his work output at school and during homework sessions. Two of the side effects are of great concern to me. My son can't sleep until well after 10:30 pm. (we are trying Melatonin, but haven't found the right dosage). The other side effect that is most troubling is the loss of appetite. When we went to see his specialist, 6 days ago, he'd lost 4.5 lbs (in 40 days).
944223 tn?1245869858 t taper of SSRIs like Paxil there can be unwanted side effects to include what you are describing in my opinion. That is why it is essential not to quit these medications cold turkey. For me, tapering slowly minimized these side effects and they will go away...keep us posted!

11352669 tn?1417486501 Typically, if you have a good, strong high protein breakfast, the effects positive effects of Concerta will last longer then without that kind of breakfast - which means you could try a lower dose. Any recent head injuries. Do you play football or soccer? If you have been using it for more then several months, then something else is probably going on. Its always worth mentioning this to your doc.
Avatar n tn Tell me please, what effects does 4-5 yrs of amphetamine(addreall) use have on the heart of a 9-10 yr old child? What part of the heart does this effect? Have you seen aortic stenosis or any other valvular problems? Please help!!!
Avatar n tn Is there anyone out there that can tell me are there any benefits to medication? I only ever read about the side effects and bad experiences people have with them, especially on children! I'm trying to decide whether to put my 7yr old son back on meds after 8 months on concerta with shocking rebound effects at night, which really took it's toll on us. Are they worth it?.
969557 tn?1314370614 Witch is a side effect to concerta and can not be reversed .They can only give you medicine to try and control the seizures. Avatar f tn Im a 19 years old boy and i have tried vyvanse which did miracles at first at 20mg until the effect decreased and had to go up to 60mg with no effects except the bad ones and went back to my old self(lazy, tired, unmotivated etc.). I am now on concerta 36mg and it seems like working but not all the time and clearly not as much as first time vyvanse.
Avatar m tn Hi, I take Vyvanse and it's doing the trick for me. I haven't experienced any of the issues you described. I have a friend who takes Concerta and she's never mentioned any side-effects to me. There are many different medications, including ones that aren't stimulants. Perhaps your Ritalin dose isn't high enough because it doesn't seem to be doing much for you. You should discuss that with your doctor. Take care.
Avatar f tn As the side effects and addiction potential is less. Some people need treatment with methylphenidate (Concerta, Ritalin, others) or various amphetamines. These medications are very effective but may sometimes cause side effects such as nervousness and heart palpitations and can be addictive.
Avatar f tn htm As they are similar in nature and both have overlapping side effects, taking both at the same time has the potential of increasing side effects that both share. Let us know what your doctor recommended for you.
