Three weeks ago, the Psychiatrist added in Intuniv...OH MY GOSH...the Concerta and Intuniv were PERFECT....Great days at school and an amazing kid emerged...Then at the end of two weeks he developed a tic...This was so horrible...They were happening about 12 - 16 per minute. raised eyebrows, eyes rolling to back of the head, head tilt to the side and a humming sound. We called Psych. and Concerta was stopped. However a week later, the tics are still here...not as frequent...
They recently have been diagnosed with A.D.H.D. and are given both concerta and benadryl at night to help them sleep while at their mothers. At my home they have no problem sleeping and I do not give them the benadryl. I do give them the concerta. I am concerned, because when they are in my care they have never acted like they do around their mother, even before they started the adhd medication they were never as hyper as she describes them in her home and at their school.
So, it is reported that it begins working fast in the morning and continues to control symptoms during the day and then tapers off at hours 10 to 12. Concerta may have a slightly better effect in those last two hours but less of an effect early on in the day after taking it. Both have a pretty similar side effect profile and you are familiar with these from your child's current medication.
In addition I am tapering off diazepam and down to 2mg in the morning and 1 at night. Everytime I try to get off the concerta I get terrible anxiety from it. I have it to a degree while on it also. I want off but my dr who takes 3 weeks to get into anyway, won’t switch me to a med I can taper off of. I know 3 weeks is a short time compared to what most of you have been through. But can someone please tell me how long my withdrawals are going to last??
I have been going to the same psychiatrist for over 5 years and have been recently given Concerta three months ago. During this time, the Concerta dose moved up 3 times and was given a new script. Some of these scripts were turned in during the same month.The doctor added on ritalin on a separate script one month. I have turned in these prescriptions mostly to the same pharmacy, but when at Walmart I have turned them in there.
not to mention he thought he could hurt someone else due to anxiety caused by concerta, to now im saying enough is enough, his pediatrician says no more stimulants until he sees his psycologist and psychiatrist again to see what is happening. concerta and clonidine are now out of his system...but his ability to concentrate or sit still are back in a big way,school right now is very hard for him but with one to one support he is a bit better..
Im 30 years old and been taking oxycodone 30mg since sept 07 after a motorcycle accsident and am trying to stop taking them I take between 18 and 24 a day and have nodesire to take these any more have buprenorphine 8 mg that i got from a friend and just looking for the best way 2 take them with being the least uncomfortable. i tried today by not taking any when i got up but by 12:30 I had no choice.
Our doctor has written us new prescription for him for Adderall during the day and Ritilan for homework time if it is needed. My questions is, is there any significant side effects or dangers between the Concerta and Adderall?
My husband is very reluctant to switch is medication and we are just trying to get some help with the questions we have.
I have been taking Concerta for one year. This was to counteract the fatigue and sleepiness that I had been getting from taking Paxil for depression. Though Concertat was initially effective, it gradually became more of a detriment than help. It made me very irritable, unfocused, and moody. I have worked with my doctor to gradually phase concerta out from the 72m I was taking daily.
In my opinion it won't be such a good test as we (people with ADHD) also have what some call hyperfocus and moving things on a screen usually triggers it ... I was able to play GTA:San Andreas for 36 hours with no breaks (and no meds)... so a moving star will probably (not necessarily ) trigger hyperfocus so everything depends on the surroundings and the state of mind...
I was diagnosed with ADHD (to add to my list of other mental health issues) at the age of 21 and was put on Concerta as treatment. Well, three years has passed and my dosage has increased to 108 mg/morning. At 72 mg I started developping speech problems and then they worsened at 90 mg. It was so bad, that ny doctor reduced my dose but later on he decided to increase it back up as I was having a lot of struggles.
Later, after high school I went to another psychiatrist who diagnosed me with ADD and put me on different drugs such as concerta, basically ritlan. It worked really well, but I think it was concerta that was too strong and all forms of ritlan gave me insomnia issues, but still, that was the best I have ever felt in my life, or should I say the most normal I have ever felt.
First the doctor put him on Adderoll 5mg but he began having these severe ups and downs-one minute he was fine and the next he was going crazy-manic attacks the doctor said. So we took him off the Adderoll and now he's on FocalinXR 5mg. It seems to help but leaves so very much to be desired. He's calmer, a little easier to manage but still the same behavior that inspired me to look in to his mental condition remain.
I ended up putting him on Vyvanse 30mg extremely low dose and he has been doing fine. He has been taking Vyvanse for 1 year. I took concerta and ended up going off due to severe headaches. My wife and I have recently received custody of him and his sister. He has been diagnosed with ADHD, and his currently taking Concerta for this disorder. I am at my wits end. My next step is referring to a child psychologist to find out what may be an underlying problem since taking all of his toys, games, and other fun items away from him. When asked why he continues to mess himself he only answers "I don't know". Obviously this is not satisfactory with me. Can anyone help me?
Hello all! I have had attention problems since icould remember. Im 24 now. But only in the year or so I've realized that it has actually caused a lot of problems study wise for me. I feel constantly bored or loos interest in the smallest tasks and tend not to sleep allot because it feels like I can't switch the conversations off in my head. I only really realized that my behavior was a bit odd, when my friend kept telling me that I walk around and interrupt allot of people in class.
I just started taking Concerta (36 mg) and I immediately developed shingles. My doctor swears it's a coincidence, but after seeing your post I can't help but wonder. I had chicken pox as a child, but I've never had shingles before now. What happened in your case? I went to the doctor today and got neurontin and valtrex, but the doctor told me to keep taking the Concerta. I don't know what to do.
He was first prescribed concerta. He did very well for about two weeks and then started to act very violent aggressive and angry. The doctor doubled the dose and the anger and aggression etc. became worse. That was when the doctor diagnosed Bipolar and took him off stimulant and put him on Resperidone / mood stabilizer. He has been on resperidone for 11/2 week showing only ADHD and ODD symptoms. He is driving us crazy but not showing any signs of anger or aggression.
I am anxious a lot and unable to drive but without the Effexer i wld not beable to even walk outside my house and now i work as a customer service rep in an office and deal with customers all day and i cld never do that before! I wld look into taking something once a day like effexer but 1 thing i have learned it to NOT read the side effects because then i think i have every single one of them. I started out on 37.
